For your consideration is the opportunity to purchase one of my aluminum bodied "coachbuilt" racers known as the "Frankfurt Flyer" in Spyder and also, now in Coupe' configuration. The Coupe roof is removable and can be transformed into Targa configuration or an open top Spyder with lowcut "Competition" windscreen. The cars are inspired by the post WWII "Aircraft Racers" of Germany, like the early Hanomag, VW and Porsche Glockler Handbuilt racers.

This auction is for the commissioned build of chassis #FF004. My cars are built specifically around the driver and his/her driving style, height/weight and personal preferences. The layout of the car offers 2 seat configuration. Power comes from a mid engine 1915CC VW powerplant with upright Porsche style fan shroud (optional Porsche 912 engine available at additional cost.) The engine is warrantied, dyno tested and produces 125HP at the wheels. This is mated to a custom heavy duty 4 speed transaxle with hydraulic clutch. Wilwood HP brakes and stainless brake lines are standard. VW Wide 5 wheels are utilized with optional aluminum wheels available at additional cost. Bilstein adjustable coil suspension at rear and our own Bilstein custom struts up front with adjustable VW Front Beam. The chassis is entirely custom built on my own jig with wheelbase varying for drivers size. The body is hand hammered and wheeled Aluminum shaped over a wooden buck.

The "23" car (chassis #001) has had publicity in AutoWeek (http://www.autoweek.com/article/20140122/CARNEWS01/140109838), 9 Magazine, MSN Cars UK, RS Magazine, Hoonivers Car of the Year Nominee, MegaDeluxe, Featured on Bring A Trailer and many more. If you're into the late 40's and early 50's racers this car is the ticket. You'll never see another car like yours and this work of art is just as fascinating sitting still as it is climbing inside and hearing the engine roar. The cars are a blast on the track as well. The car is delivered with title, bill of sale and in more stringent State/Country cases I am flexible to accommodate buyers with titling/registration. Being that the running gear is comprised of early VW and Porsche parts, Frankfurt Flyer Chassis #001 (23 car) has been invited to several historic events both in the US and abroad as well as a recent invite to a significant Porsche event in Monterey this coming June.

Please only serious inquiries. Build time for a basic package starts at 6 months. I am booking my winter/spring build projects now so yours will be ready for Summer of 2014. Also note that I offer custom buck building and coachwork for other automobiles or custom one-off projects as well. (Including Nacelle Cowlings or Hoods for your 550 Replica.) I will assist in design, buck building and custom coachwork and panel shaping. Inquire for pricing and info.

More Info: I am a one man shop located in Minnesota. All work is done in house by me from fabrication to paint. Note: The Wooden buck pictured is used for shaping the alloy panels. It is replaced with structural bulkhead supports on the finished car. Please inquire for more information.

One more look for those who've requested to see #002. Thanks again for all the compliments and constructive input. As I've told many who have inquired. The Frankfurt Flyer design is one of 15 I have currently drawn up. Each of the 15 cars I have designed will be built in progression over the next couple decades in limited quantities.

Will Roegge makes 4K art of Jeff Zwart's 911 build and run up Pikes Peak

Sun, 17 Aug 2014

Will Roegge has turned his camera on Jeff Zwart and provided another gem, this time documenting Zwart's run up Pikes Peak and BBI Autosport. Bertim Besha dropped out of high school, then worked his way up to founding his own shop, BBI, that gathers a crew of tuners who are just as fastidious about their work as the customers are about their cars.
They prepped the 991-series Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Turbo, the product of combining a 911 GT2 that was the most powerful car Zwart drove up the mountain with a GT3 Cup that Zwart thought had the best handling. Two TiAL turbos and a lot of fettling make for a 3.8-liter flat-six with 700 horsepower, 700 pound-feet of torque and a 7,800-rpm redline. Zwart drove it to a heartbreaking second place this year, finishing less than 1.2 seconds behind the Time Attack 1 class winner when his car suffered its first mechanical issue of the week.
The first video below covers Besha, BBI and the build, the second is Zwart's run. As if the visuals weren't enough, sit back and enjoy the shrieking of the "Hill Climb Special," which is what the constellation Sirius would sound like if it could bark.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS revealed in patent photos

Fri, 01 Aug 2014

Porsche has been taking its time developing the most hardcore 911 models for the latest 991 chassis. While the GT3 has been on the market for a little while, it suffered from some teething issues. The 911 GT3 RS is certainly on the radar since being spotted testing, but it's always better to get a look at a new car without all of the camo to hide the coolest parts. Thankfully, Car in the UK has some patent photos of the RS ahead of its debut, and they show off one mean-looking 911.
The first thing that you notice about the RS is that Porsche clearly isn't afraid to rework the latest 911's shape for its track-focused version. Each piece is slightly resculpted to squeeze the most out of it. Up front, the air dam has the same shape to the earlier photos. They also both highlight the upcoming model's tiny air inlet at the tip of the hood, the massive intakes in the rear fenders and general design of the rear wing with a ducktail underneath. The bubbled roof is much clearer here, where it was disguised in spy shots. You can also spot the slashing fender gills behind the front wheels that are a completely new feature.
The GT3 RS is the ultimate naturally aspirated 911 for the street, but according to Car, Porsche aims to take that even farther with the latest model. If these are the looks, then it's working. Unfortunately, the new version's powerplant remains a mystery. Though, given all the changes to the bodywork, the engine is almost surely getting tweaked over the 475-horsepower GT3. The RS is rumored to hit the road and be screaming down the track in 2015.

2014 Porsche Cayman S

Tue, 19 Feb 2013

A Blue-Blooded Valentine
I need you to understand what it's like to drive this car. I'm not talking about your ability to comprehend the words on this page or process the figures that surround the 2014 Porsche Cayman S, but rather what it feels like to take control of a car conceived, designed, engineered and manufactured to set your prefrontal cortex alight with all the glee a Zippo typically reserves for pine needles marinated in jet fuel. From the instant you put your tail in the driver's seat, the Cayman sets about impregnating your veins with a full and varied spectrum of ludicrous emotion. It's not like taking the family pickup to market, I can tell you that much.
For 2014, the next-generation Cayman features many of the same styling tweaks first displayed on the coupe's drop-top cousin, the Boxster, though a spate of mechanical changes, more power, less weight and better efficiency join the party to further differentiate this model from its predecessor. And while additions like rev-matched downshifts and electronic power steering help push the Cayman into a new era, one fact remains unchanged: This is one of the best driving cars on the market. Period. Bear with me and I'll try to explain exactly why that is.
