The 140 hp. engine has been removed and a junk engine is in place to push it around. The original engine was correctly rebuilt up to the point where his health stopped the project. He had completely restored the interior with all new upholstery, head liner, door panels, trim and new interior paint. It has all new rubber weather strip and fuzzies. It has a new windshield and new rubber seal. It does need one dent on the hood repaired which in turn calls for a possible new paint job? It rolled into an Orange tree, brake not set. The 140 engine has all new and is correctly rebuilt from the fan down. He has all the parts including carbs, etc. It is still a project for someone. The beauty of this offer is that my friend Red Badgett and I could find NO RUST! I am listing this for my friend the teacher. It has a low reserve so do not ask. Thanks, Jim"

As noted above this car was a work of love for the teacher. Most of the mechanical work was completed when the teacher was healthy and he probably had access to many shop tools in the Whittier School area. He has a beautiful 1947 Plymouth that he has restored and his craftsmanship stands out. It also shines when we looked over his sand dune buggy the he built from scratch. He is very talented yet is faced with Parkinson's and can no longer even drive. I am much older than he and thankful at 89 to still function and drive. This project would be a winner to some one who wanted a rust free Corsa and a correctly rebuilt engine. It will take a few bucks to finish this project but what a beauty you could own.  Open to questions and the answers will come from the owner. Thanks Jim Stansbury , San Diego Corvair Club.

Tarantino's stolen Chevy Malibu from Pulp Fiction recovered after 19 years [w/video]

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

Quentin Tarantino fans will likely remember Vincent Vega's cherry 1964 Chevrolet Malibu Convertible in Pulp Fiction. In a movie drenched in automotive references, the Malibu is very nearly a character in and of itself, and it serves as the subject of Vega's soliloquy about the kind of man who vandalizes another's automobile. It also happened to be Tarantino's personal car when the film was shot, and was apparently stolen shortly after production wrapped. Now police have located the car some 19 years later.
As it turns out, the thieves cloned the vehicle identification number from another '64 Malibu and had the car registered under the new digits. It was then sold to an unsuspecting buyer. Police happened upon the duplicate VINs while investigating another potential theft. Right now, it's unclear whether Tarantino has taken possession of the Chevrolet, if it has remained in the possession of the fraud victim, or whether it's caught somewhere in the gears of justice. Either way, you can catch Vega's memorable thoughts on the car keying in the Pulp Fiction clip below. But consider yourself warned: the video contains explicit language as Not Safe For Work as it comes.

Chevy Sonic shreds like a skateboard

Tue, 19 Mar 2013

Despite the fact that the 2013 Chevy Sonic is a fun, plucky little thing - especially in ever-so-slightly hotter RS guise - it is not, in fact, a skateboard. But don't tell that to rapper Theophilus London.
In General Motors' latest spot for the Chevrolet compact, London needs to make a quick run to the store for some milk. And even though, once again, the Sonic is not a skateboard, it ollies, pops and gets air because, you know, it's just so much fun to throw around.
If this video looks familiar to you, it's because this is the full ad that we first got a preview of in Chevy's longer, full-line spot, where the brand's "Find New Roads" tagline was introduced. Scroll down to see this dedicated Sonic spot, along with the older ad, and remember, the Sonic is still - still - not a skateboard.

GM recalling 250,000 SUVs over door electronics

Mon, 20 Aug 2012

After a door-fire investigation that dates back to February, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially announced a recall today that affects around 250,000 General Motors SUVs for a faulty driver's door module. The recall applies to the Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender and Saab 9-7X from the 2006 and 2007 model years, as well as the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL for vehicles sold and/or registered in the Snow Belt.
Road salt use in these midwestern and northern states can lead to corrosion of the driver's door module on these GMT360 and GMT370 vehicles, which allows water to come in contact with the circuit board. If shorted out, the vehicle's power door locks and power windows will not work, and could possibly lead to overheating and, in some circumstances, a fire. No official word on how many total vehicles caught on fire, but back in June, 28 fires had been reported to the government agency. A fix for the problem is still being worked out, but all affected vehicle owners will be notified by GM.
