Volkswagen: Rabbit Diesel Vw 1981 Great Condition on 2040-cars
Washington, District Of Columbia, United States
|
I'm selling a 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit diesel that has been my daily driver for 2.5 years. I've moved to DC and will be sharing a car due to limited parking so I'm getting rid of this one. The car is in great shape, and I've done a lot of work to it to keep it reliable and running well. There is very minimal surface rust as shown in the pictures. The underneath is very solid. The interior is in great condition--see the pictures. The tires have plenty of tread left on them. It gets 45mpg consistently. The odometer, temp guage, and AC does not work but that's common for these older rabbits. I the things that I've done include but are not limited to: Rebuilt fuel injection pump (This was $1100. I have receipts to show) Struts and springs all around Alternator Starter Battery 4 point lower stress bar that really helped stability (go to techtonicstuning[dot]com/main/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_11_6&products_id=2217) Rotary vacuum pump from a later model Jetta. This is a major upgrade for the vacuum system and breaking. Timing belt Glow Plugs Sound deadening material Modern speakers and radio Shifter bushings Coolant hoses Front brake rotors and pads Coolant heater for cold weather starts (I had this installed during this past winter. It plugs into a regular outlet when it gets cold out and works like a charm. It started with no problem when it dipped into the 20's. It was $160 and I have receipts to show). Oil pan gasket Valve cover gasket The car is currently in Washington, DC but I'm willing to arrange pickups in either Williamsburg, Va or Harrisonburg, Va for a small fee. Please contact beforehand. Thanks and happy bidding! |

Fully Charged rolls into season 3 with VW XL1 and electric Land Rover
Sat, Jan 18 2014It's been some time since last we visited with British actor and electric car proponent Robert Llewellyn and his web-based video series, Fully Charged. The show, now sponsored by Ecotricity, has started rolling out its third season and now has available two episodes featuring a pair of truly unique – and diametrically opposed – vehicles. The first installment starts with some interesting numbers involving the host's Nissan Leaf and its energy consumption over the past 36,000 miles, but soon moves on to the ultra-aero, ultra-expensive Volkswagen XL1. Now, if you've already seen the footage from our own XL1 first drive review, there's not a lot new here except, perhaps, more enthusiasm and a better listen of the two-cylinder diesel kicking in. Still, it's a great reminder of a truly unique vehicle and we enjoyed the segment. The second episode features an electrified Land Rover Defender 110. This is a vehicle you'd more likely see on an African safari than at the local mall. It's not a home-built conversion either, but rather, something the company has put together "for the boffins to create the ideas and see if they work." Boasting a 50-mile range, it's certainly something we like to take on an off-road adventure. Llewellyn is given the chance to do just that, and though the course is somewhat milder than what we might attempt, it does feature a stretch of river and some rough, rutted tracks. You can watch both episodes by scrolling below let us know which vehicle you'd prefer in the comments. This writer is going with the four-wheel-drive. This content is hosted by a third party. Final Volkswagen Eos to leave the plant in May
Tue, Feb 24 2015Volkswagen has made no secret of its plans to wind down production of the Eos hardtop convertible, and the automaker has already celebrated the model's retirement in the US with the Final Edition (pictured above). However, the company now has an actual time for that end to come. The final Eos rolls off the line from the VW factory in Portugal in May, according to Germany's Automobilwoche, and European customers have until March 27 to get any final orders in. The company has no plans to offer a successor, it previously indicated. After about nine years of production and some 230,000 made, the Eos proved to be a success, at least in its home market of Germany. A VW spokesperson told Automobilwoche it was the country's bestselling hardtop convertible at one point, but customer preferences have changed toward preferring soft-top models. That switch spelled doom for the Eos. Drivers who want some wind in their hair still have some choices in the VW lineup. The Beetle Convertible remains on sale in the US, and Europeans also get the droptop Golf.
