1987 Porsche 930
This is a nice driver condition car with low miles and some desirable options such as Sport Seats and a Limited Slip differential. The majority of the car is stock with no modifications other than the addition of OEM Porsche Aero door mirrors (power of course). I recently serviced the car and repaired a few items such as the rear emergency brake assemblies, window regulator, exhaust straps, A/C lines to the compressor and the accessory belts. The body is very straight and damage free. The paint is also quite nice and shows very well, but being black, there are multiple, visible small paint flaws, rock chips and swirl marks which are the result of average use and nothing out of the ordinary. The interior also shows very well and has the factory, power sport seats. Leather condition is very good but there is normal wear and small, slight creases. The driver's side bolster does have minor wear but it is in better shape than most (see close up pic). Passenger seat is nice but does have a stain on the seating surface which may be able to be fixed by leather treatment or touch up specialist (see close up pic). Headliner, carpets, rear seats, rear parcel shelf, dash, shift knob and boot, and gauges are also very nice with no damage or warping. Wheels are factory option 7" and 9" BBS with no curbing or scratches; tires are recent and are in great shape. The wheels are straight and lips are bright and the clear-coat is nearly perfect. The painted centers are also perfect. I have the BBS center cap wrench as well. Engine starts up quickly and runs very well with no smoking, stumbling or erratic idle. Transmission shifts well and clutch engages smoothly at the appropriate pedal height. The motor is for the most part, dry underneath but it does drip a very small amount (a couple drops maybe) particularly if the car sits for some time. Turbo is dry and does not smoke. Undercarriage and floors including the front pan are straight with no indentations or gouges. Glass is very nice as well as the exterior rubber trim. Car has the manuals, tool kit, spare and jack. This is a perfect car to drive and enjoy because it has nice mileage and is stock. It's not perfect but it looks and drives great. If you plan on buying and registering this car in CA you will not pass emissions as the car runs with no cat...car is being sold without a cat. You are welcome to come see the car in person or if you need photographs of anything specific I will provide them to you. If you want an independent inspection, this is also fine but it will be at your expense. There are several, very reputable Porsche independent shops reasonably close to me. |

Porsche Cayman GTS in track battle with 996 GT3
Wed, 09 Jul 2014Here's your tough question of the day: Would you rather drive a new Porsche Cayman GTS or a slightly older, 996-era Porsche 911 GT3? Certainly, both cars have their plusses. The Cayman is the more modern proposition, sure, but the GT3 is, well, a GT3. So yes, it's a tough decision.
If you're one of the lucky souls that have to make that choice, then this video from Evo should prove pretty helpful. It's a track battle, starring Jethro Bovingdon with a new GTS and an old GT3.
Calling the GTS "fantastically agile" and "fast, but it's also hilariously good fun," Bovingdon bangs home a solid lap time of 1:05.2 before switching to the GT3. It's remarkable to see just how dated the 996-generation 911 looks after viewing the newer Porsche, and from where we sit, it's further proof that the old car's headlights are something that's best forgotten. Styling qualms aside, though, can the GT3 keep up with its racy younger cousin?
'Faster. Farther.' dives into the history of Porsche racing tech
Wed, 07 Aug 2013No doubt, Porsche has produced some of the best endurance racecars around, such as the turbocharged, slant-nose 935 of the 1970s and the ground-effects-enhanced 956 and 962 of the 1980s. But the company's most famous racecar, its first overall winner at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, was the 917.
The 917 embodied many of Porsche's technological achievements up to that point, such as the company's first 12- and 16-cylinder engines (the flat-16 was never used in competition), fiberglass bodies that implemented early aerodynamic practices and the use of new, exotic materials, such as magnesium and titanium.
The racecar was commissioned by the head of Porsche Motorsports, Ferdinand Piëch, to win overall at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970, after he realized a loophole in the rules that allowed cars to compete with engines up to five liters in the Sport category if they were also production models. Piëch saw opportunity: the top prototype class was restricted to three liters; the production minimum to compete in Sport was 25 cars. And so, with much effort, Porsche assembled 25 "production" 4.5-liter 917s and had them parked in a neat line for the race inspectors to verify their legitimacy. It didn't take long before people realized the new Porsches were much faster than the prototype racers, with a top speed approaching 250 miles per hour.
Porsche creates 'symphony' with seven generations of 911
Wed, 02 Oct 2013At Porsche, things are getting a bit wild on the 50th anniversary year of the 911. To celebrate it (again) in yet another inventive way, the automaker has called on the musical talents of seven generations of the rear-engine sports car (please suspend your disbelief, at least for the length of the video, and assume that generation two started in 1974) to perform a song that has eight notes. We're wondering which 911 is pulling double duty...
But before the Porsches are lined up for the short recital, the drivers let loose and drift them inside a hangar. Watch the video below, and tell us in comments which was more impressive: the song or the drifting.
