1978 Pontiac Trans Am with only 6211 original milesThis Trans Am has only been owned by two previous people since new and is in its original condition right down to the tires. The car was purchased in 1992 from the original owner with 5700 miles and only driven to car shows until 1998 before being stored until now. The entire car is like new from top to bottom and unaltered in any way from original. I can't imagine there are many cars like this still available in the US for sale. The car looks like it came out of a time capsule and still has that new car smell when you open the doors. The paint is absolutely stunning in person as well as the interior and balance of the car. The seats, carpet, dash, headliner, seat belts, steering wheel, door panel and package tray are all PERFECT. The trunk compartment is mint and PERFECT. The engine compartment is bone stock with exception to a battery tender and is PERFECT. The wheels are original was well as the tires, but the tires are not good. You can get away with replacing two tires but I would suggest all four to be safe. From the window sticker you will see that this car has a lot of options with the most important one being the optional engine (T.A. 6.6 400 W-72) The other options include power windows, tilt, ac, deluxe interior, special performance package, sound deadening , truck release, hood bird, drip edge and more. The car is very special because of its originality and extremely low miles. They don't make them like this any more and no one could restore a car and even come close to the condition that this TA is in. The decal on the hood scoop does not appear to match the balance of the decals, but it is correct with the call out letters for the engine option. The owner states the car came that way but there is no way to verify it. This car is not a SE car and I am not trying to represent it that way with the hood scoop lettering . The hood scoop is original an not opened up and still has it drain hose attached with factory clip. You could always remove the decal and replace with the same style lettering on the car. Your choice. I am offering a buy it now option for those of you who would prefer to ending auction early and make a great buy on this original TA. I will require a $2,000 deposit with in 2 days of ending of sale and the balance with in 7 days. I am selling the car "as is" because cars of this age are. I will not be refunding any money so be confident in yourself and ability to complete the sale in full. I can be reached at 248-760-0021 any time to discuss the car and answer any questions that you may have. Thank you for viewing my auction. Bob |

Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit
Mon, 20 Jun 2011Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.
GM recalling 778,000 Cobalts and G5s, six deaths reported
Thu, 13 Feb 2014General Motors has announced that it will be recalling 778,562 compact cars after six people were killed in accidents, partially due to the airbags' failure to deploy. An issue with the ignition switch is causing the airbag issues, as well as causing the engine and other components to shut off without warning. The recall covers the 2005 to 2007 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007 Pontiac G5. (Note that the Cobalt pictured above is a 2009 model.)
According to a report from Automotive News, a number of factors can cause the ignition to switch out of the run position, including weights on the key ring, rough or bumpy roads or other "jarring" events. Any of these situations could lead to some vehicle components not functioning properly.
There have been five fatal front-impact crashes that took the lives of six people, although as a GM spokesman noted, all five of the crashes happened off road and at high speed. In each of these cases, though, the lack of airbags wasn't the only lethal factor - alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt also played a role. Outside of the fatal accidents, there have been 17 other crashes where airbags didn't deploy. It's unclear if any of these crashes were caused by the engine shutting off.
GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns
Thu, 15 May 2014The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.
The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles - some of them the same models - but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago.
The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents.
