1987 Mercedes Benz 300sdl on 2040-cars
San Antonio, Texas, United States
|
This car has been my daily driver and I have loved driving her. I want to realize my goal / dream of restoring and enjoying a classic Volkswagen and the Mercedes is taking up space and time. That being said, here are the good and the bad:
Good: - Strong turbo diesel engine. Just hit 350,000 a couple months back and still going strong. - I am getting between 21-25 miles per gallon. With a 20 gallon tank I am getting between 450 and 500 miles per tank. - AC blows cold (necessary in San Antonio) - All windows work - Sunroof works - Power antenna works (i fixed it) - Power seats all work - Carpets are in great condition - Clear Title - Original Owner's manual - Has original first aid kit - probably not usable, but cool to have - Full size spare tire - Original jack & wheel wrench - Wind-shield wipers work (I put new wipers on in May, wiper blades don't last long in the San Antonio heat) - Wind-shield washers work (I cleaned out the sprayers and all four work) - No cracks in windshield - Speedometer works - Odometer works - Oil gauge works - Temperature gauge works - Gas gauge works - All lights work - Parking brake works (I had it fixed last year) - Heat works - Defrost works - Radio works - Door, trunk locks work - Charging system works - Battery is strong - Turn signals work - Floor is solid - Brakes are in good condition, brake sensor light flickers. I have been told that it is a sensor issue, so I have procrastinated checking it out. - Power steering works - Transmission shifts smoothly and at correct RPM - Exhaust system passes inspection every year - No collision damage Bad: - engine has a slow oil drip. I have had it checked and was told that with so many miles on the engine it is bound to drip. I have done regular oil changes and kept the oil level good and have had no issues, other than some drips on the driveway. - interior shows wear and tear; front seats have tears (I have taped them with brown tape as seen in pictures) - paint has bubbled in a couple areas (on trunk and hood) - No Repair manual Included in this sale is an identical car that has been wrecked. Same year, same exterior color, same interior color. Engine in wreck runs and has only 229,000 miles on it. Head casting from cylinder heads of both vehicles is 603 016 14 01. I will provide photos and more information on wreck upon request. Contact me for more information. Winner of this auction gets BOTH cars! Deposit of $500 is due through paypal within 2 days of winning the auction. Shipment of vehicles is responsibility of buyer. I am flexible as to when the cars need to be taken; if you need some time to get things straightened out with shipping, that is ok as long as I have the deposit. I'm sure there are things, both good and bad, that I am forgetting. If you have any questions, please ask! |

New Die Hard movie wrecked 132 cars in $11 million chase scene [w/video]
Sat, 16 Feb 2013It would seem the act of dying hard brings with it lots of wanton destruction of the four-wheeled kind. According to John Moore, director of A Good Day To Die Hard, starring Bruce Willis, There were 132 (cars) that could never be used again. Another 518 required a lot of work. And damn right there were some good cars there... That's the fun of it."
Please join us in one great big collective sigh. Done? Okay, let's continue.
"With Die Hard it's about how audacious the action is," says Moore. "So you have to drive over a Lamborghini. An actual one. And yes it hurts me. I'm a car fanatic." Yeah. Sounds like it hurt really bad... though not as bad as the final tally after all the carnage had been counted: "Someone showed me the numbers on the car chase and soup to nuts, you put it all together it was like an $11 million sequence."
German automakers' stocks fall as EU investigates collusion
Mon, Jul 24 2017BERLIN/FRANKFURT - Volkswagen will hold a special supervisory board meeting on Wednesday to discuss allegations that German carmakers operated a wide-ranging cartel, a source familiar with the matter said on Monday. The European Commission said on Saturday antitrust regulators were investigating a possible German auto industry cartel following a tipoff. At stake is whether carmakers VW, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes and BMW used German auto industry committees to discuss pricing of components and technologies, and whether such talks constituted anti-competitive behavior. A VW spokesman confirmed an extraordinary supervisory board meeting would be held on Wednesday but declined to give details. German auto stocks took a hit in early trading on Monday, weighed down by uncertainty over possible antitrust fines after European regulators said they were probing cartel allegations. VW shares were down 2.8 percent, with Daimler and BMW down 3.4 percent and 2.5 percent respectively, lagging the blue-chip DAX index, which was 0.7 percent lower. Exane BNP Paribas automotive analyst Stuart Pearson said little was known about the allegations, but no signs had emerged about fixing prices charged to consumers. "More ugly details could yet emerge, leaving German manufacturers - and the EU auto sector - still firmly in the sin bin for now," he added. The car industry has been hit with billion-euro fines on both sides of the Atlantic in recent years for cartels related to various parts such as lighting systems, engine coolers and bearings. The industry's record on exhaust emissions is also under close scrutiny after VW admitted in September 2015 to cheating U.S. diesel emissions tests and investigations have shown many vehicles exceeding pollution limits outside of testing labs. On Friday, German magazine Der Spiegel said VW, its Audi and Porsche brands, Mercedes-owner Daimler and BMW may have colluded to fix prices on components, including of diesel emissions treatment systems, using industry committees. Spiegel said the talks also led to the use of smaller tanks containing AdBlue, a urea-based liquid needed to help filter nitrogen oxides (NOx) from diesel emissions. Larger tanks would have been more expensive, the magazine said. Auto industry experts, however, have said the effectiveness of exhaust filtering systems does not depend on the size of an AdBlue Tank. BMW, for example, has equipped its cars with urea injection as well as a NOx-storage catalytic converter.
Recharge Wrap-up: KillaJoule hits 270 mph; Mercedes B-Class ED gets PlugShare
Wed, Sep 24 2014The Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive will get its own version of the PlugShare charging-station locator app. Developed by Recargo with the help of Daimler, the vehicle-specific app will be integrated into the car's navigation system. The system maps the location of nearby charging stations from various networks. So far, Mercedes-Benz doesn't offer a universal pay service for the various charging networks, like those offered by BMW and Nissan. Read more at Green Car Reports. HyperSolar uses solar energy to make hydrogen from water. Without using electrolyzers, HyperSolar uses a photochemical process to separate and capture the hydrogen in the water, which can then be used for clean energy, such as automotive fuel cells. The solar devices are submerged in water inside a container, and sunlight powers the device to free the hydrogen. HyperSolar claims that its process is more efficient and cost effective than other methods used to produce hydrogen from water. See some demonstrations in the videos below and learn more at HyperSolar's website. Eva Hakansson drove the KillaJoule electric motorcycle to a top speed of 270.224 miles per hour. After a computer model showed a possibility of about 270 mph, the team took the motorcycle with sidecar out to the salt flats for Mike Cook's Shootout. Everything went smoothly, and Hakansson easily surpassed speeds of the 249.1-mph world record she set a few weeks ago. The team is calling it quits for the season, but will make some tweaks to the KillaJoule in hopes of getting 300 mph out of the red bullet next year.
