I am offering my own personal M-B 380SE W126 for sale.  I am retiring to my winter home and this car is redundant to my needs.  I will also be selling a 1992 Cadillac Fleetwood with 60,000 miles shortly.  I am a member of the MBCA in addition to numerous other car clubs.  My phone number is 216-470-2146 and I welcome phone calls.  This is one of the last of the 1st Series W126 platform cars.  These were amongst the last of the over-engineered, run forever Mercedes-Benz cars.

I purchased this car from my late cousins estate.  He was the original purchaser and used this car little.  The original owner, Mr. Mandel was 99 years old when he died and was one of the wealthiest men in Cleveland.  The actual mileage is 96,000.  This works out to  just over 3,500 miles per year.  This car was never out of service and always maintained.

It was bought from the original Northern Ohio M-B dealer, Koepke Motors of Lakewood, OH.  Bob Koepke original received his M-B franchise from Studebaker-Packard in the 1950's.  All the original papers are included along with both the valet key and pocket key.

This car is in excellent running order.  This particular example was fitted from new with the double row timing chain.  I did do some major service though and while I loathe ads that state "fly in-drive home" this is one of those older cars.  Since I have owned this car I have done the following;

New brake rotors, calipers, pads.  Flush and refill the brake fluid.
Flush and refill the coolant system.
Retrofit the A/C with R134a refrigerant.
New front shocks, tie rods and ball joints.
New fuel filter, air filter, etc.
Brand new correct size Kumho tires.
New correct size battery.

I fully expect all my vintage cars to operate properly and this never has failed me.  The windows all operate as do the vacuum door locks.  The sunroof seals and does not leak.  The radio antenna even still works correctly.  In other words it operates as it did when delivered in 1985.

The full power seats with memory beige leather seats are really nice.  Still supple and soft.  Very comfortable.  No rips and the padding is factory correct.  The interior wood trim is near perfect with the exception of the center console. This finish has some cracks but the veneer is perfect.  The dash pad is original and not cracked in any way.  1985 was the last year of the large steering wheel.

The body has mostly original paint.  It was repaired not from rust or accidents but this is a larger car and original owner was elderly when he bought the car.  I am including 100 photos on photobucket at this address;

It carries the correct oil pressure, 2 bars when hot at idle and immediatly goes to 3 bars when above idle.  The transmission shifts properly.  All the lights work.

Please understand that this is a very nice safe W126 S-Class.  It is not perfect as is was driven 96,000 miles in some 27 years.  But with that caveat I believe this car is a good value, incredibly safe and is even fitted with Bosch ABS anti-lock brakes.

Please peruse the myriad of photos.  Call me with any questions.  My phone number is 216-470-2146.  Thanks for looking and good luck.

Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG shows up to fight the hottest hatches [w/videos]

Wed, 13 Feb 2013

Fun coincidence. On the same day that Audi announces the unveiling of its new S3 Sportback at the Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz steals the spotlight by confirming that the all-new A45 AMG will also receive its official debut early next month. Starting life as the entry-level A-Class hatchback, the A45 AMG gets the full AMG treatment, which includes numerous performance, handling and styling upgrades.
Under the hood sits an AMG-tuned 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 breathing through a sport exhaust system helping the five-door produce 360 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired to a seven-speed AMG dual-clutch transmission and power is sent to the ground using 4Matic all-wheel drive. Mercedes-Benz says that the A45 AMG will be able to accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in under 4.5 seconds and it will have a top speed of 155 mph; in the land of hot hatches, it doesn't get much hotter than that. For added performance and handling, AMG has retuned the A-Class' suspension and steering systems and equipped The A45 with a three-stage stability control system that is specific to this car.
Surprisingly, the exterior styling of the A-Class was already sporty enough that the new model doesn't receive too many changes to become the A45 AMG. The biggest alterations include black accents to the chin spoiler, rocker panels and mirror caps, black wheels with red-painted brake calipers and rectangular dual exhaust outlets. Inside, it doesn't take a trained eye to spot the differences. The flat-bottomed sport steering wheel and the numerous red accents throughout the cabin (including the seatbelts!) really help to make this AMG interior stand out; front passengers will also get sport bucket seats that appear to be more than supportive enough for even the most spirited driving conditions.

Brabus to storm Geneva with 800-hp version of Mercedes SL65 AMG

Wed, 27 Feb 2013

At no point during our recent drive of the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG did we ever think, "You know, this thing sure is slow." After all, Merc's range-topping SL comes fitted with a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 capable of sending 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. But just in case you're still all "meh" about what the SL65 throws down, Brabus will gladly come to your rescue with this, the 800 Roadster.
As its name suggests, the 800 Roadster ups the V12's power figures to 800 horsepower and - wait for it - 1,047 pound-feet of torque. Don't get too excited, though - that torque number has been electronically limited to a measly 811 lb-ft since, you know, the transmission would probably explode if you tried to put the full force through it. Nevertheless, these represent increases of 79 hp and 73 lb-ft over the standard SL65, and that means the 800 Roadster can shoot to 62 miles per hour in just 3.7 seconds - two-tenths of a second quicker than the Merc its based on. More impressively, hitting 124 mph takes just under 10 seconds, and the droptop will finally top out at an electronically limited - limited! - 217 mph. Holy smokes.
To manage all of that speed, Brabus has engineered a special carbon fiber aero kit that reduces lift, and a unique control module for the SL65's active body control suspension lowers the ride height by one full inch. The 800 Roadster rides on new 20-inch wheels, and a unique limited-slip rear differential was added, featuring a 40 percent locking rate that further enhances performance when you're attempting to control the beast at its limits. Interior upgrades include new leather and alcantara surfaces throughout the cabin, including a leather-clad trunk.

Edmunds ranks the best used cars for 2013

Sun, 15 Sep 2013

When people ask us what car we would recommend for them, it's usually not easy to answer. To make a useful recommendation we must consider which of the numerous vehicle segments fits their needs best, and then choose one of the many vehicles offered in each segment. For some people, new cars don't meet their expectations of value, because they lose so much of it the moment they are purchased and driven off the dealer lot. For them, there's always the used-car market, where great deals can be found, but cars' histories of reliability and maintenance records - and perhaps that Certified Pre-Owned warranty - become ever-important factors playing into purchase choice.
To help out, Edmunds has done us the favor of assembling a list of the best used vehicles money can buy, covering model years 2006-2011, according to what it considers the most important criteria when shopping for used autos: reliability, safety, value and availability. That means unreliable, unsafe, super-expensive or limited-edition models don't appear on the list, but instead cars from each segment that are more likely to satisfy the general population.
There are some real goodies on the list, including but not limited to vehicles such as the capable Honda Fit, the cultish Honda Accord coupe (which can be had with a 240-horsepower V6 and a six-speed manual transmission some years), and the powerful Chevrolet Corvette. While Edmunds' choice of the Volvo C70 for best used convertible baffled us at first (not that it's a bad car), it redeemed itself by stating that the Mazda MX-5 still is an unofficial top choice if you don't require more than two seats.
