Thomasville, Georgia, United States

For Sale is our 2009 Red Mercedes C300.  It is a RARE 6 speed Sports Sedan.  Coupled with the world class twin plug Mercedes 3 liter engine, this provides a magical driving experience.  This is a one owner car!

This car is for sale in Thomasville, Georgia.  You may note the Maryland license plate.  We have relocated to Georgia and find ourselves with an extra car as we just purchased a 2014 Mercedes, thus the sale.

The Opening Bid is LESS than the wholesale value for this car.  We believe in the quality of the car so strongly that it is a No Reserve Auction

From the pictures you can see the wonderful condition this car is in.  It was used by my wife to commute to work in rural Maryland over the past 5 years.  There is a clean carfax that should show up, but if it does not, I can email a copy if needed.  The car is five years old and while taken care of and serviced according to Mercedes specification (all maintenance records available), there are a few very small stone chips on the hood.  We invite physical inspection if possible as it will only validate our pictures and statements here.

This car has never been smoked in and rarely has had passengers.  Again, view the pictures provided to see the vehicle condition.

On our trip to Georgia, the car averaged 32 mpg.  While this was a long run on the interstate, the twin plug 228 HP engine performed magnificently.  Clearly, mileage depends upon driving style and roads, but along with amazing handling, this vehicle also exhibits wonderful long haul gas mileage.

As this is a five year old used vehicle, no warrantee is conveyed, either stated or implied.  We welcome and highly recommend individual inspection.

Upon successful conclusion of the auction, $500 is due within 48 hours via PayPal and the balance due within 7 days.  The only form of acceptable final payment is certified bank check.

I last sold a vehicle four years ago on eBay, and had a terrific experienced with the car sold in Maryland to a buyer in California.  I will help coordinate any transportation, understanding that the sale is FOB Thomasville, Georgia and the buy has complete responsibility for shipping.

We are NOT car dealers, thus no financing is available.  Please do NOT bid if you are unable to complete the transaction financially.

Mercedes rules out hybrid supercar, promises SLS successor

Sat, 16 Mar 2013

The recent Geneva Motor Show was a festival of hypercars, with the presence of not one, but three over-the-top debuts: the Lamborghini Veneno, McLaren P1 and Ferrari LeFerrari. The latter two have hitched their carbon fiber bumpers to the electrification bandwagon by using hybrid-electric powertrains not entirely unlike the propulsion systems we've come to know in cars like the Toyota Prius and Chevrolet Volt. Does that mean the flow of electrons up the four-wheeled food chain will eventually consume our hallowed supercars? Not if AMG has anything to say about it.
AMG Director of Vehicle Development Tobias Moers recently confirmed that not only will there be a successor to the Mercedes-Benz performance division's SLS AMG, he notes that its internal combustion engine will most definitely not be sharing living quarters with an electric drivetrain. Instead, AMG plans to focus on further pushing the power and efficiency envelope of the internal combustion engine and advancing the use of lightweight materials to achieve their goals. The first example of this effort can be seen in the new SLS AMG Black Series that incorporates many weight-saving techniques to shed some 154 pounds from the SLS AMG GT (above), which itself is lighter than the standard SLS AMG.
Furthermore, Moers remarks that his company is happy to leave the hypercar segment to companies like Ferrari and McLaren. He admits that, "Ferrari in the hyper-car segment is still a different brand than AMG. We have to be honest..." So rather than taking the SLS further upmarket to do battle with bulls and stallions, Moers hinted that the next-generation SLS may be joined by another performance model that fits neatly between itself and the C63 AMG.

Chris Harris and David Coulthard wring out a Mercedes Fintail at the N"urburgring

Thu, 17 Oct 2013

If there's one thing we've learned from the latest video from Drive, it's that the combination of Chris Harris and David Coulthard will produce some very quotable moments. Take this exchange, for example.
DC: "We are by some way the slowest."
CH: "But we're in a class of three cars, apparently."

Clark Gable's 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing doesn't sell, then does sell for $1.85 million [UPDATE: w/video]

Sat, 19 Jan 2013

How much extra value does previous celebrity ownership add to of a car? Really, there's no way to know until the car in question hits the auction block and bidders start raising their hands. In the case of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing you see above, the celebrity owner is none other than Clark Gable, who purchased it new. After Gable's death in 1960, the car changed hands a few times before settling with Charles Wood in 1975.
A high-dollar restoration was performed in 1989, and period accessories added by Gable himself were kept in place, including the Rudge knock-off wheels and Nardi steering wheel. Any Mercedes-Benz 300SL is worth a big chunk of money. In the case of Clark Gable's old Gullwing, the bidding stalled at $1.9 million here at the 2013 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale. As one of the 5000-series cars, this 300SL carried a reserve, and a bit of after-the-fact dealmaking saw the car change hands for $1.85 million.
You can see our high-res image gallery above, and the car's official auction description below.
