THIS 56 TBIRD WAS BOUGHT 06/16/1956 BY WILLIAM EUGENE GUITNERS AND ELISE GUITNERS FROM MEL BURNS FORD IN LONG BEACH CA. THEY HAVE OWNED THIS CAR UNTIL I TRADED ELISE OUT OF IT LAST WEEK. I HAVE 7 OLD CARS, ALL CHEVYS BUT I DO LIKE THIS CAR AND MAY KEEP IT. I HAVE TONS OF PAPER WORK WITH THIS CAR FROM THE ORIGINAL SALES INVOICE TO THE GUITNERS TO CHATTELS MORAGE, TO CONTRACT , COPY OF HIS 55 DRIVER LIC, APPRAISEL,PHOTO WITH WALT DISNEYS NEPHEWS 57 BIRD IN CA SHOW TO, ALL RESTORTAION PAPER WHEN IT WAS RESTORED IN 2001. THIS IS A VERY GOOD CAR WITH LOTS OF HISTORY. I HAVE EVEN MORE PAPER WORK. THE MILES OF 47 K ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ORIGNAL AS ELISE INDICATED. SHE ALSO SAID SHE AND HER SON ENTERED IT IN 4 SHOW AND WON AN AWARD EVERYTIME FROM 1ST TO 3RD. THE CAR LOOKS MORE WHITE TO ME THAN CREAM WHITE AND THE PAINT IS JUST SO NICE AS WELL AS THE INTERIOR. IT STARTS RIGHT UP AND DRIVES VERY GOOD. IT HAS A TOWN AND COUNTRY RADIO WHICH DID NOT PLAY WHEN I TURNED IT ON BUT I HAVEN'T FOOLED WITH IT. I HAVE CRAWLED ALL OVER THIS CAR AND DID NOTICE SMALL AMOUNT OLD RUST ON A BODY MOUNT ON PASS SIDE, LOOKS AS IT WAS TREATED MAYBE BACK IN 2001,IT'S NOTHING BUT I WANT TO TELL WHAT I KNOW ABOUT THE CAR, WHICH IS NOT MUCH. J Mays on the 2015 Ford Mustang
Thu, 05 Dec 2013J Mays, head of design at Ford, may be retiring from the company after 16 years, but not before showing the world his swan song: the 2015 Mustang. Ford officially revealed its new coupe and convertible to the public at events around the world on Thursday, including a live unveiling on ABC's Good Morning America, and Mays was in attendance at the automaker's home event in Dearborn, MI, which is where we caught up with him for a few words about his new baby.
"It's a joy" to design the Mustang, Mays told Autoblog, adding that this sixth-generation coupe is his "favorite design so far." Of course, the 2015 model takes cues from all of the generations that came before it, but Mays said it was important to edit down the specific elements from previous models, leaving just enough off to let the customer "participate and fill in the blanks."
"If it doesn't sell itself, you probably aren't a Mustang fan."
2013 Ford Explorer Sport
Thu, 04 Apr 2013When one speaks of sporty and fun-to-drive utility vehicles, few would put the Ford Explorer in the same category as the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, BMW X5 or Porsche Cayenne. Yet, with just a few reservations, I'd toss the new-for-2013 Ford Explorer Sport close to that arena for consideration.
As a recap, the sportiest of Explorers is fitted with Ford's twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6, making 365 horsepower and 350 pound feet of torque. Acceleration is brisk (figure about 7 seconds to 60 miles per hour), as power goes to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. Contributing to its more athletic demeanor are larger front brakes, a sport-tuned suspension, chassis upgrades, quicker steering ratio and a more aggressive wheel/tire package. Cosmetically, the Sport is distinguished by its blacked-out lights, black trim and noticeable lack of chrome (with the exception of the door handles).
Ford recently handed me the keys to a Ruby Red Metallic Explorer Sport. Rather than mindlessly drive the big seven-passenger all-wheel drive hauler in soccer mom circles around Los Angeles, I loaded up my family and embarked on a long weekend road trip to Yosemite National Park.
2013 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year finalists announced [w/poll]
Wed, 12 Dec 20122012 is almost in the books and automakers are spending December gearing up for the 2013 auto show season, which tips off next month at the Detroit Auto Show. Traditionally, the latter opens up with the announcement of the North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year awards, and this year figures to be no different.
But up until this moment, we didn't know which six vehicles would be parked ahead of the stage as finalists, with executives and engineers waiting for the winners to be disclosed. Whittled down from October's "short list" of nominees (11 cars and 10 truck/utility vehicles), the finalists are as follows:
