This car is being listed for a friend who is not on ebay, you can call Gene if you have any questions at (631) 758-6722, mon thru fri 8:00am to 5:00pm...

For sale is a 1969 El Camino which Gene purchased two years ago after it's restoration.  The previous owner spent just shy of $30,000 restoring this vehicle.  Starting with the engine, Genuine GM Crate Motor, 502CI - 502HP purchased complete from carb to oil pan from GM.  Aluminum radiator, serpentine belt set up, power steering, power brakes, hooker aluminum coated headers, 3 inch exhaust with bow tie tail pipe tips.  The tranny is a Turbo 400 with a B & M shifter.  The rear is a 12 bolt posi with 390 gears.  Very few miles put on this car since the restoration was completed.  The body is extremely solid with very nice paint, the chrome was either polished or replaced, new emblems...  The paint could still be rubbed out for additional mirror like finish....   Two items to be pointed out, referenced in the pics, there is a small chrome trim piece gene just noticed was missing under the passengers head light and there are a couple of paint chips on the hood passenger side by the cowl...   The interior is very nice, with new dash pad, the door panels, seats, and headliner are in great shape.  There are only two places that rust was noticed, on the rear floor behind the passengers seat and on the rear frame rail..   Good luck bidding on this awesome El Camino with a very reasonable reserve.....

Silverado HD, Touareg V10 TDI face off in diesel tug-of-war

Sun, 30 Dec 2012

A couple weeks ago, we watched a Chevrolet Silverado get dominated by a Dodge Ram Heavy Duty in a fullsize pickup tug-of-war, but in that truck's defense, Chevy's Vortec gas engine was no match for the torquey Cummins turbo diesel. For our next round of vehicular tug-of-war, a Duramax-powered Silverado HD takes on Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI.
Now, on paper, putting the Duramax V8's 365 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque up against the V10's 310 hp and 553 lb-ft looks like an easy win for the Bowtie, but unfortunately, this battle has a similar result as the Dodge versus Chevy video, with the Silverado smoking its tires trying to move forward as it gets pulled backwards. Put another way: YouTube 2, Chevy Silverado 0.
It just goes to show, though, that big tires, bolt-on fender flares and goofy smoke stacks don't improve your towing abilities. Besides, what did the Silverado driver expect when the Touareg V10 TDI has towed a Boeing 747 in the past?

Experimental mid-engine XP-819 Corvette going up for auction

Sun, 17 Feb 2013

It seems to be commonplace that when a new Corvette is in development, rumors swirl about a possible mid-engine layout. As is the case of Chevy's most recent C7 Corvette, these rumors never pan out.
In any case, the idea for a 'Vette with an engine mounted behind the driver can probably all be traced back to a single car, the 1964 XP-819 prototype. Built as an "engineering exercise" back in 1964, the prototype was designed with a rear-mounted engine. History tells us that the idea of a rear-engine Corvette fizzled, and the XP-819 was eventually cut up into pieces and stored at a shop in Daytona Beach, FL.
After sitting for untold years, a restoration project started on the car, and while it isn't yet fully completed, the current owner of the car, Mid America Motorworks, will have the car on display at the 2013 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance as a "driveable chassis" with hopes of having a fully completed car ready to bring to next year's show.

Veyron and C7 Corvette join cast of Transformers 4

Wed, 29 May 2013

Like the Fast & Furious franchise, the Michael Bay-directed series of Transformers movies has become known as much for its bad acting as its impressive lineup of cars. As filming just started for Transformers 4, Bay's website has confirmed two new cars for the next installment as well as a makeover for everyone's favorite tractor trailer hero, Optimus Prime.
Joining the cast of T4 are a "race-inspired" Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse. While Bay's website did not supply names for either car, Bugatti is reporting on its Facebook page that the Veyron will join the Autobots. Speaking of the good guys, top Autobot Optimus Prime is getting an all-new body based on a Western Star with a gaudy appearance that was seemingly inspired by Trick My Truck - right down to the six smoke stacks and side pipes!
