1966 Corvair Monza Convertible on 2040-cars
Fort Gratiot, Michigan, United States
1966 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Convertible. This car was purchased new in 1966 by an engineer who worked at the General Motors Desert Proving Grounds in Mesa, Az. It is an original, totally rust-free Arizona vehicle. It was purchased by a friend of mine in 1985 and moved to Algonac, MI. It was well maintained, rarely driven, and properly stored. I purchased the car from my friend's wife in 2010, have driven it on special occasions, and kept it in heated storage--it has never seen any snow or cold! This car is an original survivor and in extremely nice original condition. It has the 4-carb 140 HP engine, dual exhaust, power top, original black vinyl interior. The car comes with the Owner's manual, sales brochure, original Parts and Accessories Manuals, GM Assembly Instructions (fairly rare item) and extra parts. Because I liked the appearance, and because 13 in. tires were getting hard to come by, I had 4 new 15 in. "Old School" Brand Mag type wheels and Kumho tires installed in 2012--there are probably less than 300 miles on these new tires. I did not save the original 13 in. wheels and wire-wheel hub caps. The car rides and handles very nicely. The paint appears original, but sometime between new and 1985, the car was touched-up and repainted with the original Madeira Maroon Lacquer. It is showing some small blistering in spots but very presentable. The carbs could use adjusting to improve starting. Vehicle runs excellent. It would be tough to find a nicer original car than this. GM looks to combat high theft rates on SUVs with added tech
Tue, 24 Dec 2013The Cadillac Escalade has been at or near the top of most-stolen and insurance-loss lists for more than seven years, until it dropped to number six earlier this year. In 2011 it was fitted with a host of new security features to address its easy-to-override features and that has brought the number of thefts down, but when eight of the ten most stolen rides are large SUVs from General Motors, no one will argue that something else needs to be done.
Thus, GM has fitted this same theft-deterring tech to the 2015 Suburban, Tahoe and Yukon. The Suburban and Tahoe will get the steering lock that the Escalade and Yukon already get, plus bolted-down third-row seats to deter thefts like this, stronger door lock cylinders and shields, and side-cut keys to inhibit picking.
Additional security measures in a Theft Protection Package can be purchased for $395, consisting of sensors on the greenhouse glass and interior, an incline/tilt sensor and added "key control systems" to make it more difficult for the men in black balaclavas to steal what you bought.
New Chevrolet Silverado to be revealed on Facebook on Thursday
Tue, 11 Dec 2012There's not much to see here, but if you're one of those waiting for the reveal of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, above is the teaser image that Chevrolet posted on its Facebook page. We've seen the truck in form-fitting camo before, and even less can be made out here beyond those seriously punchy Silverado-esque fenders and the knowledge that the projector-beam headlamps teased previously do indeed work. We'll have to wait until Thursday for a full perusal of the "bold exterior design" and "careful attention given to every detail" we've been promised.
Gathering intel and rumors, magnesium and aluminum contribute to the Silverado's weight loss plan, the purported "High Country" top-tier trim will contribute to luxury pickup truck competition and profit margins and the next-generation small-block V8 will contribute to improved fuel economy. On the engine note, there have been rumors of available V6 engines, and when Facebook user John Jones asked "Where's your answer to that EcoBoost Chevy?", the Bowtie replied "stay tuned on the 13th. We think you'll be pleased...".
Along with the "Raise the Bar" tag, Chevrolet says of the Silverado, "You asked, we delivered." You can watch the reveal live on Chevrolet's Facebook page at 9:30 am EST, this Thursday, December 13. The GMC Sierra 1500 will also be there, and we'll see both in person at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
GM recalling over 243,000 crossovers over possible seat belt defect
Tue, 17 Aug 20102010 Buick Enclave - Click above for high-res image gallery
The summer of 2010's recall hit parade continues unabated today, with General Motors having just announced that it is asking 243,403 owners of its 2009-2010 Lambda crossovers to bring their three-row haulers in for inspection. The culprit? Second-row seat belts in select Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia, and Saturn Outlook CUVs have "failed to perform properly in a crash."
According to GM, a second-row seat-side trim piece is to blame, as it can impede the upward rotation of the buckle after the seat is folded flat. As a result, if the buckle makes contact with the seat frame, cosmetic damage can occur, potentially requiring additional force to operate the buckle properly. So far, no great shakes, but in the process of applying that additional force, the occupant may push the buckle cover down to the strap, potentially revealing and depressing the red release button. As a result of this, the belt may not latch, or in certain cases, it may actually appear to be latched when, in fact, it isn't.
