Up for auction is a nice 1961 Chevrolet Corvair 700 Deluxe.  This is a turn-key cruising car which starts right up, runs, and stops.  The car was restored recently and painted to match the original Honduras Maroon coloring from GM and any bodywork was done by a professional car dealer using two-stage urethane and clear coat.  When this car is polished it has the appearance of being wet so it is a great paint job.  Very little, if any, rust or body damage.  The entire underbody has been sealed with rust-proofing and floors are solid.  New chrome Cragar racing wheels with Goodyear rubberThe wheels look amazing on this Corvair.  E-brake holds the car safely and the Power-glide trans is good, no slipping.  All body chrome is smooth and nice - no excessive pitting.

Has the traditional Corvair air-cooled 6 cylinder engine in the rear.  Has had new coil, wires, plugs, points, rotor, rebuilt carbs, new chokes, newer fuel pump, oil filter, lube job, oil change, and rebuilt generator for a few years back.  The engine is powerful and runs well - drips very little oil and is clean.  The gas gauge doesn't register so I have a stick for that.  All lights and electrical system is good.  8,800 is the mileage shown on the odometer, 87,000 is assumed to be on the rebuilt engine.

Interior is sharp and has only one seam opened on the driver's back cushion, new designer Corvair carperts and a newer tape deck has replaced the old AM radio.  The windows were resealed when car was restored and doors latch and close easily.  The front truck is clean and in great shape.  Overall this is a handsome Corvair with tremendous curb appeal and runs like a champ!

Winner to pay with Cash in person, or paypal in advance as per arrangements.  $200 non-refundable deposit within 24 hours and balance due before pick-up and I can help load car if necessary.  Please ask any questions ahead of time, opinions on condition can sometimes vary so please ask.  Clear is for sale locally as well so snag it while you can.

Thanks for looking!

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible is a Swiss hit

Mon, 04 Mar 2013

We've just received an early peek at the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible here at the Geneva Motor Show. General Motors was kind enough to let us attend the final dress-rehearsal for its press conference scheduled for tomorrow's opening media day, and we've come away with a good look at the droptop C7 in person.
In the metal, the new Corvette Convertible seems somehow less avant-garde than the Coupe, even in Z51 Performance Package guise. That's not necessarily a bad thing - more of an observation. That initial impression may be because the C7's new greenhouse is one of its most prominent departures from Corvettes past. While we didn't get to see the top erected, there's no rear side window in the stock images that Chevy has already released, suggesting the C7 convertible's profile will look a lot like its C6 predecessor. And with the new power tonneau cover in place, there are also no rear ducts that come as part of the Z51 package (they've been moved under the car).
As with its predecessor, the tonneau is a handsome double-bubble piece, and the body-color "waterfall" element into the cabin between the seats has made it to the new model as well. Thus, the overall look with the top down should be a bit more familiar to prior-gen C6 owners - if you're one of those put off by the C7's new shape, you'll probably appreciate the convertible bodystyle more than the coupe.

Dodge vs. Chevy tug-of-war taken to the extreme

Mon, 17 Dec 2012

They say "idle hands are the devil's playground," but said playgrounds grow to Disney-sized proportions when a pair of jacked-up trucks, two egos, a chain and an empty mall parking lot are involved. Proof of this is the video below, which shows a Cummins-powered Dodge Ram circa 2006 to 2008 chained tail-to-tail with what looks to be a gasoline-powered Chevrolet Silverado from the late 1990s or early 2000s.
We don't necessarily have to tell you who wins this battle, but we'll let you see for yourself the lengths the "winning" driver goes to prove his point. There's plenty of foul language in the video below, so beware that this might be Not Safe For Work, and not that we should have to tell you, but please, do not try this at home.

Chevy might've pulled out of NASCAR if it weren't for new Gen 6 car

Wed, 20 Feb 2013

We've been on the fence with NASCAR for some time now. On one hand, it's some of the closest racing anywhere in motorsports, with actual passing and door-handle-to-door-handle action as a matter of course. But on the other, it's become template racing - a personality-driven sport more about the drivers than any sort of loyalty to a particular automaker. The Car Of Tomorrow format really rammed that message home, with a racecar's identity coming down to little more than headlamp stickers slapped on the nose. That's not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but we've wondered for some time what's in it for the automakers, who pay big money to stay in a series that has had little increasingly little do with street car sales, let alone innovation.
Apparently General Motors was beginning to wonder the same thing. In a new ESPN report, Rick Hendrick, team owner of Hendrick Motorsports, suggests that GM would have seriously considered leaving NASCAR if it wasn't for the move away from the COT to the new Gen 6 racer. According to Hendrick, GM North America boss Mark Reuss spearheaded the charge away from the 2007 COT and toward a racecar with clearer automaker ties - cars like the new Chevrolet SS racer shown above. Learn more about the fight for a closer-to-production look in the ESPN story at the link.
Now, if we could just get more rear-wheel drive V8 coupes into showrooms....
