SELLER REMARKS

Vintage trucks are extremely popular right now, and if this 1966 Chevrolet C10 is any indication, there's a bright future in old haulers. From the handsome blue paint to the smooth-running 283 under the hood, this cool pickup neatly straddles the line between custom and restored original. 1966 was the last year for the Fleetside pickups introduced in 1960, which offered lower rooflines and a swept-back cab that offered industry-leading space and comfort, and we wouldn't see such ornate trucks ever again.

Finished in bold medium blue with a white top, this truck is a movie star. The Fleetside offered dramatic styling with lots of swoops and curves, as well as brilliant use of trim, and all of it remains 100% intact on this hauler. Other styling details include the wing-like lip at the back of the cab, which probably has no real function but looks really cool. Paint and bodywork are done to a good standard, and this truck will be right at home both at local shows and the local lumber yard on a Saturday afternoon. These were well-made rugged machines from new, so it shouldn't be surprising to find one this nice today, and very little bodywork seems to have been required to get it ready for paint. All the original trim remains, from the massive front bumper and delicate egg crate grille, to the cool cast trim piece behind the cab, to the polished stainless along the sides that is strongly reminiscent of the Impala SS trim from just a few years earlier. But if you need it to work, it's ready, with a recently refinished bed that isn't over-restored but rather just about how the factory would have done it.

Trucks were austere machines when they were new, but this one has had a luxury upgrade during the build. The original bench was recovered in gray fabric, tying in perfectly with the matching headliner, gray dash and black rubber floor coverings. Padded dashes and door panels hadn't yet made it to the truck lines, so they've been finished in medium gray to give everything a uniform look. The original gauges are a very cool setup with a single lens over all dials and they're joined by an auxiliary Stewart-Warner temperature gauge that's probably been there since the '60s. A newer AM/FM/cassette head unit handles the entertainment and if you've got a 4-speed, you may as well flaunt it with a Hurst shifter and a cue ball knob. Have fun!

At some point, the 283 cubic inch V8 was rebuilt and detailed before being nestled back between the front fenders. As a truck, function was chosen over style, but it got upgrades like an Edelbrock intake and carburetor, chrome valve covers, and an open-element air cleaner. It runs beautifully with that smoothness that only '60s engines seem to demonstrate and there's plenty of torque at just about any speed. This is a man's truck with manual steering and brakes, but you'll find that it doesn't really need power assists and it starts easily with a great V8 rumble from the dual exhaust system. The 4-speed makes it a lot of fun to drive and while it's original, the chassis is in good order with no signs of life in the rust belt. Factory-style Rally wheels with spinners were fitted with 235/70/15 Firestone radials to give it a sporty look.

This is a great truck that can work all day and still clean up nicely for a night out on the town. Call today!

GM applies for LT5, LTX trademarks... are new small block variants coming?

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

Recently discovered General Motors trademark applications for LT4, LT5, LT88 and LTX have observers wondering what kind of high-performance offerings could be on their way. A new LT4 would mark a return of the engine designation first used on the Corvette Grand Sport, SLP Pontiac Firehawk and SLP Chevrolet Camaro SS from 1996 and 1997. Supposition at Corvette Forum - which provided advance intel on the C7 like these leaked images - believes a new LT4 could go into the high-performance trim of the next-gen, 2015 Camaro that would be more powerful than the 580-horsepower Camaro ZL1.
Seeing an LT5 again would also be déjà vu - in its former life it was a 5.7-liter V8 for the C4 Corvette ZR-1 from 1990-1994 designed by Lotus, producing from 370 hp to 405 hp. A mix of rumor and hope is that the new LT5 will be a supercharged evolution of the 6.2-liter LT1 (pictured) placed in the new C7 Corvette, and that it will go into the C7 version of the ZR1 pumping out something like 700 hp.
The LTX trademark is, as with that last letter, a complete mystery. If the "X" isn't a generic way to denote the whole LT family, it's wondered if it LTX could refer to a crate motor offering like the LSX.

Race Recap: 2013 Indianapolis 500 better than Bollywood; all the emotion, none of the music [spoilers]

Mon, 27 May 2013

If the 2013 Indy 500 were a movie it would be the one expected to win all the little statues come awards season, and if it were an athlete it would have made spectators watch in awe as it broke record after record. And this kind of talk comes after last year's race was considered one of the best ever - the last lap hijinks in 2012 and Takuma Sato's crash leading to a podium ceremony straight out of a Golden Globes tearjerker.
But this year's race delivered more than anyone expected, from the 250,000 fans to the commentators to the IndyCar series itself and, finally, to the guy who hopped through a two-mile window on Lap 197 to take the lead and keep it until the end.
