1973 Jeep Wagoneer 4x4 on 2040-cars

Year:1973 Mileage:58602
Location:

Elkhorn, Wisconsin, United States

The old Camp Wandawega "house Jeep" is looking for a new home. It has served us well over the last several years, but we're now looking for an older Jeep Wagon, so this one has to go to make room : ) It shows 58,602 miles on the odometer, but as a vintage vehicle the title is milage exempt, so we can't be sure exactly how many miles are on it. The prior owner claims it to be original miles, and goes on to state that the block is even newer: apparently they had summer weight coolant in it one cold Wisconsin winter instead of antifreeze, which led to a freeze, which led to a crack, which led to a new block. Take a look and you be the judge. This beast of a Wagoneer is pre-Grand Wagoneer, so no power seats, no power windows, no power door locks, to fail on you. This particular Jeep has appeared in a number of photo shoots and catalogs over the years for numerous magazines, brands and retailers including Flea Market Style, Penfield, Jack Spade, Warby Parker, Purina, etc.
But please don't fall in love with the "photo shoot" persona of this Jeep. It's an old, used, driven Wagoneer and it needs some TLC, most notably new floor pans. New floor pans are a must. It can also use some suspension help: it has sagging leaf springs, old shocks. Mechanically, it fires right up, goes strong, shifts strong, and stops well. The body has some scratches, dings, a small dent in the rear cargo door, and some rust. I have a rear manual window crank that goes with it, but it is not installed. It will need to be installed in order to open and close the rear window. The mounting pole is stripped, so it won't simply attach as it should: some MacGyver-ing will be needed. It's a strong, reliable runner. This Jeep has never been professionally restored, just fixed up piecemeal over the years. Much of it as you see is original, including most of the interior. Your best bet is to come see it in person so you get a better sense of the TLC needed. What else can I tell you? Please don't hesitate to ask. And please don't buy it sight unseen thinking it's a show car, then complain later. Come look at it. We'll let it go for a fair price based on the condition. It's not a trailer queen "Wagonmaster" Jeep by a long shot, but it's a fun, cool, unique, Jeep and we'd love to see it go to a new loving home! The "Camp Wandawega" logos on both doors are not painted on, they are vinyl letters, and that will be removed prior to selling.

eBay Find of the Day: 1977 Jeep J20 time capsule

Tue, 08 Jan 2013

Is it just us or has eBay really become, of late, a surprising time capsule of older, barely used automobiles? We've had the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT with 83 miles, the 2004 Ferrari Enzo with 175 miles, the 1987 Shelby Lancer with 22 miles, the 1989 Shelby Dakota with 23 miles - none of those four cars ever even registered - and the 1975 Cosworth Vega with 191 miles. You can add to that list a 1977 Jeep J20 - the kind of Jeep that enthusiasts point to when they beg the brand to make another pickup truck.
Listed on eBay by Masterpiece Classic Cars in Whiteland, Indiana, the Brandywine and Alpine White truck has used its 360-cubic-inch V8 paired with a three-speed automatic to go just 3,940 documented miles. Not surprisingly, it's listed in excellent condition and the images appear to bear that out. The three-quarter-ton pickup comes with its original manual and pamphlets, the Quadra-Track four-wheel drive probably just as ready to tackle the terrain as it was 36 years ago. If only it came with some John Denver to play in that AM/FM/8-Track stereo...
At the time of writing it hasn't garnered a single offer or bid, probably due to the above-top-dollar Buy It Now price of $34,900. Still, since this is likely the closest you'll get to a Jeep pickup for some time, we'd recommend admiring it in the gallery of photos above.

Some Jeep Cherokees and Chrysler 200s to get standard stop-start in 2015

Wed, 25 Jun 2014

Automakers the world over are striving to find ways to make their models more efficient, and Chrysler has a solution for some versions of the 2015 Chrysler 200 and 2015 Jeep Cherokee (2014 model shown). The Tigershark 2.4-liter four-cylinder in the 200 and the 3.2-liter Pentastar V6 in the Cherokee are getting a slight boost later this year thanks to the addition of Chrysler's Engine Stop-Start system as standard equipment. The company predicts modest gains - a three-percent improvement in fuel economy and a three percent reduction in CO2 emissions with the new tech compared to without it. While it's not much, those who sit in traffic a lot may see a difference.
Chrysler's stop/start system uses a high-speed starter motor to restart the vehicle in a claimed a third of a second. It works by detecting when the vehicle comes to a stop and turning off the engine. A more powerful battery maintains all of the model's accessories while it sits. When the driver lets off the brake, the car starts up again to drive away. There is even a button in the cabin to turn the ESS off, if desired.
The Jeep will be the first to receive ESS in the third quarter of this year to coincide with the start of production of the 2015 model-year version. The 200 will follow in the fourth quarter as a rolling change in production.

Jeep Wrangler diesel likely after 2015 model refresh

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

We automotive journalists aren't always the right people to ask about whether a US-spec vehicle should or should not be offered with a diesel powertrain (hint: the answer is usually "YES"). But when it comes to the iconic, off-road-ready Jeep Wrangler, we aren't the only ones who have been clamoring for an oil-burning engine behind that famous seven-slat grille. To that end, it appears there's good news on the horizon, as Jeep CEO Mike Manley recently told Ward's Auto that the "Wrangler is on the radar to get (a) diesel."
"I'm confident that the Grand Cherokee will show just how large a demand there is for diesel, and I think what that will do is reinforce the need for us to target Wrangler as a vehicle that can take a diesel," Manley told Ward's. The most rugged of Jeeps is scheduled to get an overhaul around 2015-16, and the diesel powertrain will likely be introduced around that time.
This year alone, Chrysler will be adding a diesel engine to the Grand Cherokee SUV, as well as the Ram 1500 pickup and Promaster utility van.
