Some background on this Limited Edition:

Dodge released a limited-edition Yellow Jacket package for the 2012 Challenger SRT8 392 at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. The America-only model features an exclusive Stinger Yellow exterior paint highlighted by a black grille, new 20-inch five-spoke aluminum wheels with black-painted pockets, and black stripes that run down each side of the car. A special Yellow Jacket design and lettering can be found inside the stripes at the rear of the car. Inside, the standard leather seats feature an exclusive Stinger Yellow band with embroidered Yellow Jacket logo and silver stitching.

The term yellow jacket comes from
a special two-seat targa-style show car formed from the first 1970 E-body Hemi Challenger Convertible. It featured a honey-gold color and included styling elements that would influence future Challengers including the grille that debuted on the ’71 Challenger and rear panel treatment used on the ‘72–‘74 cars. The Yellow Jacket lasted one year on the show circuit before being transformed into Diamante show car. The Diamante lasted four years before being stored and then sold into private hands.

The Yellow Jacket stems from the new-for-2012 SRT8 392, which replaces the 6.1-liter V-8 SRT8 for 2012. It is powered by a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 engine providing 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. That’s 45 more horsepower and 50 more lb-ft of torque compared to the outgoing model and equates to a zero-to-60-mph time in the high four-second range and a quarter-mile time in the mid-to-high 12s. Other interesting performance statistics include a 0–100–0-mph time in the low 15s and a top speed of 182 mph with the manual transmission. The new engine loses a couple miles per gallon in the city and probably won’t make up for it with its small gains on the highway (comparisons vary by transmission).

The Yellow Jacket also features the two-mode adaptive damping suspension system that is an option on the 392. Dodge says the adaptive suspension on the Challenger SRT8 392 results in .90g capabilities on the skid pad. The system offers a Sport setting and an Automatic mode. In addition to the new adaptive suspension, the SRT8 392 features 14.2-inch front and 13.8-inch rear vented brake rotors with four-piston Brembo fixed calipers that can drag the car to a halt from 60 mph in as little as 117 feet.

The 392 package also contains a revised front fascia with large front chin spoiler, body-colored rear decklid spoiler, and “392 HEMI” badges. Inside, the SRT-exclusive Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) with performance pages gives instant feedback on 0–60-mph acceleration, 60–0-mph braking, G-forces, and one-eighth-mile and quarter-mile times.

Dodge not being dropped by Chrysler, CEO reaffirms

Mon, 16 Sep 2013

Dodge isn't going anywhere. Despite some rumor and speculation over the future of the crosshair grille and the cars that wear it, Dodge brand boss, Tim Kuniskis, sat down with TheDetroitBureau.com, explaining that the marque isn't going anywhere. His sentiments echo those of SRT boss Ralph Gilles, who told a group of enthusiasts in July that "Dodge is here to stay!"
Dodge's death won't be "a part of a master plan to consolidate brands," Kuniskis told TheDetroitBureau.com. Instead, the brand, which is ultimately under the command of Fiat/Chrysler CEO, Sergio Marchionne, will likely ditch some of its badge-engineered models, like the Dodge Grand Caravan. A more focused Dodge, which was something Gilles has already hinted at, will likely see it exploring areas of the market that haven't been exploited by other Chrysler brands.
Kuniskis, not surprisingly, wasn't willing to delve into any detailed product plans, telling TDB that the size of the brand's lineup "remains to be seen." Regardless of how big the brand actually ends up being (it is presently Chrysler's volume brand - and not by a little), hopefully the statements from Kuniskiss can put the rumors of a Dodge closure to bed.

Chrysler celebrates 30 years of minivans with special editions

Tue, 03 Sep 2013

It's been known by many names: the Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Caravan, Plymouth Voyager, Chrysler Voyager, Lancia Voyager, Volkswagen Routan, Ram Cargo Van... but the bottom line is that Chrysler's minivans have defined the segment for 30 years now. In fact, Chrysler says it has sold 13 million of them since 1983, helped along by the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan that accounted for nearly half of all minivans sold in the United States just last year. So to celebrate this three-decade milestone, the Auburn Hills auto has announced a pair of new special editions.
The 2014 Chrysler Town & Country 30th Anniversary Edition starts the Touring-L trim and includes such special touches as 17-inch wheels, unique badging, available Granite Crystal Pearl paint and an interior decked out in black Alcantara and Nappa leather, piano black trim and all the optional bells and whistles bundled in.
The 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan 30th Anniversary Edition, meanwhile, starts off with either the SE or SXT trims and also upgrades with 17-inch alloys as well as color-keyed mirrors and an interior with silver stitching, piano black trim, power everything, and of course, those special badges.

2014 Dodge Durango

Wed, 25 Sep 2013

Say what you want about the Dodge Durango, but ever since it came on the scene in 1998, it has occupied its own niche in the SUV market - not too small, not too big, tough, able, not always the best on the road and not always the best off-road. If it were a football player, it would be a tight-end that can block and catch. If it were a hamburger - a double burger with cheese and bacon, but not the Whopper.
As part of a mid-cycle upgrade for what was already a very capable SUV that Chrysler introduced in 2011, and built on the same platform as the Mercedes GL-Class and Jeep Grand Cherokee, the 2014 Durango has gotten some refinements worth noting that have cleaned up its tailoring and toned up its body and powerplant. The result is an SUV that shows itself to be a very good value in a category full of sticker prices that can run away faster than a kid who's been told he has to take ballroom dancing lessons.
Chrysler executives showing us the new Durango made a special point to reiterate that the Dodge brand is not going away, as has been rumored after the company took the Ram and Viper - the cream of the brand - out from under the Dodge umbrella. Turns out Dodge has been the brand attracting the most young people (who knew?) and has a younger average age buyer than Honda. The Dodge brand historically has also attracted buyers who aren't exactly Phi-Beta Cappa, which some companies worry about. Chrysler not so much. Dodge buyers tend to be more the working, high-school-educated, community-college-educated backbone of the work force in America. If they keep coming to Dodge, the Durango is a pretty good piece of hardware to save up for.
