1969 Vw Van Bus Type 3 Restored Super Beetle Motor Volkswagen Camper Patina on 2040-cars
Birmingham, Alabama, United States
ROAD TRIP!!! This is a 69 VW Bus. It uses very little gas, but runs on a lot of positive energy and if it ever gives you trouble, reading "On the Road" by Jack Kerouac seems to make it run better. Buy this bus: It's deck! Be a juicer! Jerry's will flock and reminisce. VW crowds will think you're rad! If you want something vintage, and you want a new tassel every night, this is the car for you! Nothing says "I don't give a shit" like an old bus that goes 0 to 60 in about 90 seconds. Oh snap: It cranks and runs so smooth! The rubbers fresh, the rides legit and the ladies are chipper, when you crack this whip! Throw that fixie in the back! Let's play frisbee golf, knock back a bronson, listen to some indie music and dream about that new tattoo or skinny jeans you've been wanting. Life will be so good you'll probably stop taking the aderall and invest in a retro fridge you can fill with PBR and IPA craft beers. We'll even throw in some cheapy vintage Tee's, some USA Red Wings, and some Big E levi's: truth! ------- Seriously: This is a really cool, vintage bus that drives like a top. I've restored it. It's rust and trouble free, and it a lot of good hearted fun. Tire kickers need not waste my time, and on the flip side, if you want to come to Birmingham to drive it or send someone to inspect it, please feel free. I don't have time to baby my collection of cars. I have many muscle cars, and I am thinning my herd. I also have a 71 T/A and a 69 Z28 in separate auctions. I also have a 72 C10 Fleetside and a 66 GT 350. I really love this bus and have taken great care of it, but business comes first. The reserve is low! |

BMW, Ferrari, VW cars use tungsten mined by terrorists
Thu, 08 Aug 2013Bloomberg Markets is reporting that BMW, Volkswagen and Ferrari have been using tungsten ore sourced from Columbia's FARC rebel terrorists. The extensive story focuses on Columbia's illegal mining trade and calls into question the provenance of the rare ore that is used not only in crankshaft parts production, but is also found in the world's computing and telecommunications industry for use in screens.
The ore is mined by the FARC (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, or Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - People's Army), and exported to Pennsylvania, where it is refined. The refined ore is then sent over to Austria, where a company called Plansee turns it into a finished product. Now, it's important to note that we aren't talking about the world's supply of tungsten here. In 2012, Plansee's American refinery purchased 93.2 metric tons of tungsten, valued at $1.8 million. That's peanuts, with the entire Colombian tungsten mining industry producing just one percent of the world's supplies.
That doesn't make indirectly supporting FARC any more acceptable, though. BMW, VW and Ferrari are all committed to not accepting mineral supplies from the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is also in the grips of a guerrilla insurrection funded, in part, by illegal mining. The same commitment would figure to extend to Colombian mining, but as BMW points out, it's difficult for a multi-national manufacturer to know where every item in its supply chain comes from. A company spokesperson says as much, telling Bloomberg, "These few grams out of the billions of tons of raw materials passing through the BMW supply chain are of no practical relevance."
VW Chattanooga plant very close to UAW representation
Tue, 11 Nov 2014After months of fighting from both sides, it looks like the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN, might unionize under the United Auto Workers after all. According to a letter acquired by The Associated Press, VW and the UAW reportedly struck a deal last spring where the union agreed to stop its challenge of the organization vote with the National Labor Relations Board to help clear the way for the CrossBlue to be produced in Tennessee. In exchange, the automaker would recognize the UAW at the plant. Leaders of the Local 42 at the facility reportedly signed the letter.
It seems that such an agreement would clear the way for the factory to unionize after months of dispute. According to The Detroit News, under Tennessee law, workers aren't required to join the organization. Although, that might not be a problem. As of a few months ago, Local 42 already claimed to have signed around 700 of the plant's roughly 1,500 workers.
Controversy has constantly swirled around the possible unionization at the Chattanooga plant. The UAW held its official decision in February and lost 712 to 626. However, there were allegations of intense political pressure to make sure the ballot failed. A later report also found that VW was offered $300 million in incentives well before the vote to make sure things progressed to the "satisfaction of the State of Tennessee," but the deal was later retracted. In July, the UAW opened Local 42 on the campus in hopes of signing up a majority of the workforce by volunteering to be a part of it.
Automakers score 8 out of top 20 most-watched ads on YouTube [w/videos]
Fri, 14 Dec 2012Who would have ever thought there'd be a day where people are able to skip television commercials only to go to websites to watch them later? Such is the joy of a DVR and YouTube. AdWeek tabulated the 20 most-watched ads on YouTube, and found that nine were car-related including eight coming from automakers.
Volkswagen continued its Star Wars theme with two ads in the top 20, including the highest-ranking car commercial The Bark Side spot at number three with almost 18 million views, which doesn't even have a single car in it. Some of our favorites are from Chrysler with Clint Eastwood in It's Halftime in America and House Arrest with Charlie Sheen for the Fiat 500 Abarth. Chevrolet, Honda, Audi and Toyota were the other automakers in the top 20, but we'd be remiss if we didn't at least mention one of the coolest ads on the list, the Hot Wheels corkscrew jump.
Of all the car videos, only the Fiat ad wasn't played during a Super Bowl. Check out all eight videos - in order - after the jump. Nike took the top spot with its My Time is Now ad that has been seen online more than 20 million times with Pepsi's Uncle Drew posted up in the runner-up; some of the other videos include four Old Spice commercials and an ad in which Snoop Dogg is pedaling Hot Pockets.
