See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.Seller Notes:"Stock FJ40 with PS, original paint. NOT restored. The 2F engine has 96000 original miles and runs excellent. Seats, tires, original Toyota mats are super nice. Uncut dash, no rust anywhere. I will either do a frame off restoration on this 40, or pass it on as a "time capsule" FJ40 in stock, unmolested condition."

Full frame off or sell as is? This is a bone stock, unmolested 76' FJ40 with original paint. It will only be this way once in it's lifetime. My dilemma is this: I am working on 5 other FJ40's at this time, all full frame off restores. 1) 1983 FJ40 Diesel (BJ42). 2) 1983 FJ40 AC, PS bone stock 3) 1979 FJ40 PS bone stock 4) 1964 FJ45 pick up 5) 1976 FJ40 V8 conversion

Time is the issue. To sell now to someone who appreciates "original" or restore later?

1976 FJ40 in original, stock condition. No rust anywhere, zero.

*96,000 original miles. Runs excellent.

*4 speed transmission shifts smoothly, and is tight. Transfer case works excellent. 4 WD works excellent.

*Body is rust free. There is zero rust front to rear. This FJ was adult owned in Oregon and Florida its whole life. Garage kept, with "antique plates".

*Frame is as good as new, and completely rust free.

*The interior is in very good condition, with new seat covers, original Toyota mat, and very nice dash, and gauges that all work. Door panels are average, as is the headliner. Windows roll up and down easily. Glass is all excellent.

*Tires (5) are all new, Toyo 31X9.50X15 and the stock steely rims have been powder coated the correct gray, with new OEM hub caps.

What to expect: A great running, beautiful, rust free, 1976 FJ40 that has 37 year old paint that looks awesome for its age. It has scratches here and there. A few little dings here and there. Hood paint is showing its age. Over, very cool, extremely solid FJ40 that will go virtually anywhere.

"IF" I do not sell this 40, it will look something like the Freeborn Red 40 (last photo) in Olive Brown of course, but will also cost significantly more.

Bid with confidence. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time.

I will be away from my computer until Wednesday, and answer all questions at that time. Thank you!

Toyota aims to build autonomous car around 2020 [w/videos]

Tue, Oct 6 2015

The race is on to get increasingly sophisticated forms of autonomous driving technology on the road, and brands like Tesla are bringing these solutions to some drivers now. But as one of the world's largest automakers, it's no surprise to see Toyota competing in the field, as well. By 2020, the company thinks a person could be largely unnecessary for freeway trips. With a suite of tech called the Highway Teammate, a modified Lexus GS is already showing what's possible. Using a combination of millimeter wave radar, LIDAR, and cameras, the GS gets a full view of the road, and software processes all of the info to make decisions. The result is a ride on the freeway without human interaction. The system can merge, change lanes, make passes, take curves, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. Accurate map data is a necessity to make this work, so the system currently only being tested on Tokyo's Shuto Expressway. While Highway Teammate might not be the best name, it accurately communicates the way Toyota thinks of the tech. The company is making big investments in artificial intelligence to assist drivers, not completely replace them. You can see the system in action in the video below, and the second clip's gravely serious narrator explains the company's idea of having a fully connected road someday. New Toyota Test Vehicle Paves the Way for Commercialization of Automated Highway Driving Technologies Toyota City, Japan, October 6, 2015-Toyota has been testing a new automated driving test vehicle called Highway Teammate, with the aim of launching related products by around 2020. In addition to demonstrating the capabilities of next-generation safety technologies, the vehicle represents Toyota's view of the evolving driver-car relationship in the age of artificial intelligence. Toyota believes that interactions between drivers and cars should mirror those between close friends who share a common purpose, sometimes watching over each other and sometimes helping each other out. Toyota refers to this approach as the Mobility Teammate Concept, and Highway Teammate represents an important first effort to give form to this concept.

PickupTrucks.com's latest test results in a familiar winner [w/video]

Wed, 19 Jun 2013

PickupTrucks.com has gone and thrown the latest batch of half-ton pickups into a cage match to see who would come out on top. The site put the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2013 Ford F-150, Ram 1500, Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan through a battery of tests. Those included 0-60 miles per hour acceleration, 60-0 mph deceleration, fuel economy, a hill climb, and payload and towing. They even threw the rigs on an autocross course to evaluate overall handling. Each truck was given points based on how it scored in each evaluation.
Who came out on top? Somewhat surprisingly, the 2013 Ford F-150 walked away with the gold, though fewer than 50 points separated first and fourth place. Head over to PickupTrucks.com to read the full evaluation and the final results. You may be shocked to see exactly where some of the segment's newest additions placed. You can also watch a video on the test below.

Toyota discontinuing FJ Cruiser after 2014 model year

Tue, 20 Aug 2013

The Toyota FJ Cruiser is not long for this world. According to the manufacturer's own fleet website, the rugged FJ will be discontinued after the 2014 model year, with the companies final orders due in June of next year.
Toyota first launched the FJ Cruiser in 2006 as a 2007 model, and aside from minor year-over-year changes, it has not been substantially updated. The FJ is the modern successor to the original FJ40 Land Cruiser that Toyota produced from the 1960s all the way up through 1984, when the automaker decided to better focus on its larger, four-door Land Cruiser line. Currently, it uses a 4.0-liter V6 engine with either rear- or four-wheel drive, and is available with either a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. Interestingly, word of the FJ's demise comes not long after Toyota's US boss, Bill Fay, reaffirmed his company's commitment to body-on-frame trucks in late July.
Also of interest, Toyota's fleet website states that the 2014 model year Prius range will have "minor updates," though it's unclear what those are as of this writing. When Autoblog reached out to confirm these developments with Toyota, spokesman Curt McCallister reminded us, "As is our corporate policy, we don't discuss future products beyond the present or upcoming model year."
