1963 Pontiac Safari wagon

This is a super fun car. I've owned it for a couple years and have put a lot of time and money into making it a safe and reliable, turn key car. I would drive it anywhere without hesitation. If you are the high bidder, rest assured you can fly in and drive home without concern. It's been all over the country on the Hot Rod Power Tour and several Good Guys or NCRS shows. We have had a blast with it.

It has a smooth riding, fully adjustable 4 way air ride suspension with bags and shocks on all four corners.

Engine is 1969 400 that has been fully rebuilt with a lumpy Summit cam, new pistons, timing set, oil pump, seals, etc. I just installed a new 2200 B&M stall converter with a new Hays high performance flex plate and new starter. Runs cool with high performance aluminum radiator. It has new rear axle bearings and seals.

Exhaust is all new with Flowmaster 40's and 3" pipes. Has cross over installed and sounds deep and rowdy! Always gets "thumbs up".

Averages 15 mpg on the highway at 65 mph with tall 2.90 rear gear and 235/75/15 tires.

15x6 and 15x8 wheels tuck under fenders without rubbing.

It has a new heater core. All of the headlights, tail lights, turn signals and wipers work perfectly. Heat and defrost work perfectly.  Gas gauge works but drops quickly from 1/4 tank reading.

Body is super solid! NO RUST THROUGH anywhere on the car. It came out of the Northwest and never was subjected to salted roads. The floorboards and tailgate are beautiful and rust free. No patchwork anywhere on the car!!! No filler and no paintwork ever. This car has the patina that only Mother Nature can produce from 51 years of honest use. No FAUXTINA!

Interior is very nice and comfortable. Seats and door panels are originals with minor defects. The seats and springs are still firm and not all bagged out. Door panels are super nice. All the wind-lace has been replaced. All the interior vinyl in the cargo area has been restored with original vinyl from SMS with the correct stitching.  New headliner. Over the past year I have invested over $2000 in the interior alone. Electric rear window works perfectly. Color matched Super Sport steering wheel and working NOS swamp cooler round out the interior. All the interior stainless has been polished. Carpet, pad and sound deader, wind-lace, cargo area trim and headliner are NOS

I really enjoy this car and don't mind keeping it, but have several unfinished cars that need my attention. The money from this one will help me finish at least four of my other cars.

Priced below build cost. Hard to find wagon. Bid early, bid often and bid to win.

Check my feedback and bid with confidence. Please ask any questions before you bid. Please make sure you have your funds lined up because I seriously doubt that your local credit union is going to float you on this one.

MotorWeek's 80's GM muscle coupe roundup includes Regal GN and Monte Carlo SS

Thu, Jan 29 2015

Even with just four brands in the family, General Motors still represents a performance powerhouse. Between the Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Camaro Z/28, Cadillac CTS-V and ATS-V, The General can still deliver plenty of thrills. The 1980s, though, saw the brand go even crazier with performance. While the Camaro and Corvette were still around back in the day, GM had a number of other interesting performance offerings. The Bowtie was complemented by the long-deceased Monte Carlo SS, while the now-defunct Pontiac and Oldsmobile offered the Grand Prix and thumping 442, respectively. And Buick, which isn't short on performance with its Regal GS and Verano Turbo, offered a much more serious vehicle, in the form of the Grand National (not to mention the Darth Vader-spec GNX). MotorWeek, in its hugely entertaining retro flashbacks, looks back on these three long-lost GM performance icons, and it's just as good as you might expect. Check out the official 2013 Trans Am Hurst Edition commercial

Sat, 16 Mar 2013

The Poncho is dead. Long live the Poncho. Like certain other reoccurring personal maladies, the aftermarket community simply can't let the Trans Am go without another flare up. The guys at Trans Am Depot have worked up a quick commercial for their newest creation: The 2013 Trans Am Hurst Edition, and it watches pretty much like you'd expect it to. The footage is comprised of just about every TA male fantasy you can conceive of, from Daisy Dukes and white tank tops to tramp stamps, bikinis and ice cream cones. There simply aren't words for what you'll see below.
Of course, we like our T-Tops as much as the next guy. If you like what you see in the videos, you can pick up your very own TA by heading over to the Trans Am Depot site. The guys even have Chevrolet Camaro-based versions of the Pontiac GTO if the '77 TA treatment is too much for your tastes. Enjoy, but don't say we didn't warn you.

Junkyard Gem: 1986 Pontiac Fiero GT

Wed, Nov 2 2022

If you like affordable, mid-engined two-seaters, the 1980s were your decade. Fiat (and, a bit later, Bertone) offered the X1/9, Toyota sold MR2s, and even General Motors got into the act by creating the Fiero. Available from the 1984 through 1988 model years, the Pontiac Fiero showed plenty of promise but ended up being mostly disappointing, in some ways echoing the career of the Chevy Corvair of a couple of decades earlier. Today's Junkyard Gem is a once-spiffy 1986 Fiero GT, found in a self-service yard near Denver, Colorado. After a long and painful development period stretching all the way back to John DeLorean's XP-833 Banshee (which ended up being a major influence behind the original Opel GT), the Fiero finally debuted in 1983 as a 1984 model. The top-of-the-model-range GT appeared the following year. The Fiero was built as a notchback coupe and as a fastback, with all the GTs being the latter type. I couldn't get the engine lid open, but this car would have left the assembly line (in Pontiac, Michigan) with a 2.8-liter V6 rated at 140 horsepower. This car has a five-speed manual transmission, making it a credible rival for Toyota's MR2.  The 1986 MR2 was less powerful than the Fiero GT (112 horsepower versus 140), but also scaled in significantly lighter (2,459 pounds against the Pontiac's 2,780 pounds). The MR2 also cost less, priced at $11,298 while the Fiero GT cost $12,875 (that's about $30,540 and $34,805, respectively, in inflation-adjusted 2022 dollars). Meanwhile, the $6,998 Honda Civic CRX two-seater lured away many potential Fiero buyers despite being a front-engined/front-wheel-drive car, and the $7,186 Ford EXP/Mercury LN7 also put a dent in Fiero sales. I can't find a price for the 1986 Bertone X1/9, but it cost a hard-to-believe $13,990 in 1984. GM still was using five-digit odometers in many vehicles by the middle 1980s, but this Fiero has a six-digit unit and thus we can see that it nearly achieved 150,000 miles during its driving career. The 1984-1987 Fiero suffered from a parts-bin suspension design, with the front suspension borrowed from the Chevrolet Chevette and the entire rear transaxle/suspension assembly lifted from the front end of the Chevrolet Citation. For the 1988 model year, GM finally spent the money to design an improved Fiero-specific suspension … and then promptly put a halt to production.
