ABOUT:

Up for sale is an original condition 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7. This was a CA car brought to CO. I am selling due to other projects. I am providing as much information as I know to the best of my knowledge and will answer any questions as best as possible.

  • Original Light Aqua paint and White vinyl top plus all trim is original. Leather and Corinthian vinyl interior. The driver's door and trunk lid has some paint issues. These appear as some form of cracking that I can only guess may be sun damage of some sort to the lacquer finish.

  • The car has no rust that I could find from the inside or outside.

  • The engine is a 351W with a newer Holley 4 bbl. put in by the previous owner. I do not have the orig. carb. There are no oil leaks and the engine is very clean. Distributor is converted to Pertronix pointless along with higher output coil. Newer dual exhaust with a nice low rumble sound. Original spec'd 3 speed manual on the floor. Console appears aftermarket. Manual drum brakes recently redone. Front end has been upgraded with bushings, etc. Has a Monte Carlo bar for improved front stiffening. Newer shocks. BF Goodrich tires (225/70R14) are in v.g. Condition on Magnum 500 rims. There are 2 spares. One is a full size spare on a Magnum 500 rim less center cap & trim ring. The other is the original space saver inflatable spare including canister to fill spare. Manual steering with rim blow horn. Wood grain dash with all gauges including factory tach. Clock is not currently working. Original Philco AM radio with dash speaker. Works great. Dash is not cracked. Has a dash cover. All glass is good. No PW. The interior is original. There are 2 small tears on driver side headliner. Drivers seat Leather has age cracks plus the pull handle. I have 2 new replaceable arm rests. Shoulder belts are in trunk. Has orig. seat belts. Headlights work fine incl. vacuum doors. Sequential taillights work fine. No A/C. Heater/Defroster works.

  • This car is in great original condition and gets many thumbs up at local events. I have driven it a little over 1000 miles without any problems and would not hesitate to take it on any long distance trips. It is a good daily driver, car show entrant, or great base to make it what you want. It is not a trailer show queen. Mileage shows it to be approx. 02000. I understand it to be 102,000. The Kevin Marti report states that this Cougar is 1 of 97 XR7's built with this color combination, and 1 of 139 built with this engine/trans combination. The VIN is: 9F93M530006. The door tag reads: 65B E FK 05M 53 6 I. Assembled in Dearborn, MI. District Sales Office was Oakland, CA. I have some extra parts plus car cover.

NHTSA investigating Ford's solution to May 2014 power steering recall

Tue, Apr 7 2015

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating a complaint that Ford's response to a May 2014 recall of the 2008 to 2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner doesn't quite go far enough to solve a troubling power-steering problem. Roughly a year ago, Ford recalled nearly a million vehicles after it was found that a problem with the torque sensor's communication with the power steering control module could cut steering assistance for drivers. While manual steering would still be available, the problem was enough to ask drivers to report in to have the PSCM inspected, and if necessary, replaced (along with the torque sensor, or in dramatic cases, the entire steering column). That would only happen, though, if trouble codes were being thrown. If there weren't any problems, dealers were told to simply update the PSCM's software so that any issues between it and the torque sensor would simply throw a visual and audio warning – power steering would still be maintained. The petitioner claimed that following the recall work, he still experienced a problem with the torque sensor. According to NHTSA, a claim was made that Ford didn't go far enough in its solution to the problem, and that "the software update itself may in fact cause further issues with the affected vehicle's power steering, causing it to fail, and ultimately requiring replacement of the torque sensor or entire steering column." The petition was filed in early February and is now officially being looked into by NHTSA.

Ford recalls Five Hundred, Mercury Montego sedans over fuel tank woes

Mon, 18 Jul 2011

Ford has announced through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is recalling nearly 3,000 examples of its Five Hundred and Mercury Montego (pictured) sedans from the 2007 model year.
The action, which affects 2,945 vehicles, is due to potentially defective welds between the filler neck and the fuel tank, a condition that could result in a fuel leak or the smell of gasoline reaching the occupants. In the worst-case scenario, a leak could cause a fire. Cars with the affected fuel tank problem could see an illuminated dashboard warning light as a result of the evaporative emissions leak being detected.
Ford will inspect and replace the fuel tank at no cost to owners (those who have already had the procedure done at-cost can apply for reimbursement), and the Dearborn automaker will begin notifying Five Hundred and Montego owners beginning August 15. Check out the official NHTSA press release after the jump for further details.

Question of the Day: Most degraded car name?

Fri, May 27 2016

When Ford came up with a not-so-sporty version of the Pinto and slapped Mustang badges on it in 1974, that was a low point for the Mustang name. When Chrysler applied the venerable Town & Country name on perfectly functional but unglamorous minivans, it saddened many of us. But perhaps the biggest demotion for a once-proud model came when, in 1988, General Motors imported a misery-enhancing Daewoo from Korea and called it the Pontiac LeMans. The original Pontiac LeMans was a great-looking midsize car with fairly advanced (for the time) suspension design and engine options including potent V8s and a screaming overhead-cam straight-six. The Daewoo-based Pontiac LeMans was a cramped, shoddy hooptie that served only to ruin the LeMans name forever, while stealing sales from the Suzuki-based Chevrolet Sprint. Sure, using the once-respected Monterey name on the Mercurized Ford Freestar was bad, but Mercury didn't have long to live at that point. I say the downward spiral of the LeMans name was the most agonizing in automotive history. What do you think? Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party.
