In 2007 I searched for a old-style Lincoln Town Car but couldn't find one in my price range, the next best thing is what I stumbled across: a Mercury Grand Marquis. This car got me through high school and college, and now that I've gotten a career job, I'm ready to let this car go.

The car has 170k miles on it, interior and exterior is clean. I always keep it on blacktop with a car-cover except for Dec-Feb where there is usually snow and ice. I'm fairly handy and very familiar with the Panther platform, so most of the work on the car I did myself. A lot of it was recent:

Oil change every ~3000 miles
New Autolite Platinum plugs @ 108k
Michelin X-Radials @ ~115k
New power steering pump @ 120k
Front Sway-bar bushings & endlinks @ 150k
Pass side inner/outer tie-rod ends & idler arm replaced @ 152k
Rotors, front & rear pads, parking brake shoes (ACDelco rotors/front pads, Wagner rear pads) and front shocks @ 156k
Transmission replaced @ 165k
All 4 window regulators replaced
Aftermarket MTX speakers with Pioneer head unit

I'm looking for around $2100 or best offer for it. The car is located in Harrisonburg, Va. I'll be glad to answer any questions you have to the best of my knowledge!

As you can probably figure, I put a lot of effort into this car to keep it maintained, I am hoping to sell it to someone who will appreciate the car and take care of it for another 100k miles!

Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes

Thu, 10 May 2012

When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.

Report: Last Mercury for retail business built on Sunday

Mon, 04 Oct 2010

Ford is already well into winding down its Mercury line, and the autoamker has announced that the very last of the soon-to-be dead brand's products built for retail sales was manufactured on Sunday, October 3. The final Mercury Mariner rolled off of the assembly line at the company's Kansas City facility, putting an end to a brand with over 70 years of history behind it.
Even after the Mariner heads off into the automotive sunset, Ford says that it will continue to manufacture a handful of Mercury models for fleet and government service for a while longer, though mum's the word on how long we can expect that practice to continue.
Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, most incentives on Mercury vehicles have all but dried up, even as the brand's August production increased by 120 percent compared to July's figures. Instead of cash on the hood, some areas are offering no-cost maintenance or similar programs. Even so, Mercury has continued to out-sell Lincoln right to the end - besting Ford's luxury arm's sales by nine percent in August.

Feds open investigation into Chevy Express, Ford Freestar rust issues

Wed, 28 Dec 2011

'Tis the season... for road salt. And with that, comes rust. And what does rust bring? Well, for Ford and General Motors, a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation. According to The Detroit News, NHTSA is looking into potential recalls issues with Chevrolet Express vans and Ford Freestar minivans.
The feds have received five complaints that rust has caused leaking fuel filler pipes on 2003 Express vans. Separately, seven complaints have been filed over excessive rust in the rear wheel wells of 2004 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans. The Freestar and Monterey went out of production in 2007. Neither issue has resulted in any crashes or injuries, according to the report.
