A True Classic 1966 Lincoln Convertible

1966 was the first major styling change in this iconic American luxury car since 1960.  This classic royal maroon convertible with only 84,929 miles was purchased in July 2014 from aprivate seller who purchased it from a collector who had owned and stored the car for the previous 44 years. The factory ski / luggage rack is a rare and seldom seen option.

The convertible top is original and other than a few pinholes, in great shape, goes up and down with ease and is water-tightSome markings on top from adhesive near left rear door.  The tires are also original and will likely need replaced if the car is to be driven much.

The gas tank is unknown and should be inspected and cleaned or replaced.  However, the car starts right up with a temporary fuel cell and sounds great.  The brakes will need to be replacedimmediately as they will NOT stop the car. I have a new master cylinder and related hardware that will be sold with the car.

The interior is in good condition but has a musty smell from years of storage. The original carpets are in good shape.  The cream-colored leather seats are in good shape front and backfor being nearly 50 years old: no tears, rips or excessive signs of wear.  The dash is free of cracks and fading.  All electric windows and vents work freely with the exception of driver’s window.  The glass is in good shape.  The radio, antenna and clock work.  Likewise the headlights except high beams (replacements to be sold with the car).  One turn signal lamp needs to be replaced and the driver’s door interior handle needs attention.

The only significant known negative is some rust in the lower portion of the left front quarter panel and behind the rear wheels.  The trunk is clean and solid.  Likewise the floors to the best of my ability to inspect them.

While other financial obligations (and a 1987 M6) force this sale, reasonable bids are expected, the reserve price reflects the opportunity to own a car that is actually increasing in value andcan easily command twice this price with some attention and relatively small investment.

Lincoln MKC Concept shows real promise [w/video]

Sun, 13 Jan 2013

Ford's efforts to resuscitate its moribund Lincoln luxury brand began in earnest with the introduction of its 2014 MKZ sedan, a model many labeled as the marque's make-or-break offering. Of course, one model does not a comeback make, and with the MKZ just now starting to trickle into dealers, it will be some time before America's jury of consumers comes in with their judgment. More to the point, it's likely to take better than a decade's worth of products and sustained marketing effort to even begin to figure out whether Lincoln has a shot at redemption or if it will die of Mercury poisoning. After all, rival General Motors has been pouring resources into Cadillac since the late '90s, and if the sales charts are any guidance, it's still probably too early to declare its rebirth a success.
Certainly, a brand with Ford's resources, free of distractions (read: the now-defunct Premier Auto Group and various other side projects) should be able to successfully market a single luxury brand, particularly one with such a rich - if distant - history. Especially now with the Blue Oval enjoying more consumer goodwill than at any time in recent history. So let's all give Alan Mulally and friends a little room to work, eh?
We can start by focusing on the compact crossover seen before you, the Lincoln MKC Concept. Riding atop the same global C-platform that underpins the Ford C-Max, Escape and Focus, the MKC showcar here presages a production small CUV that will stick its distinctive nose into one of the auto industry's fastest-growing segments.

Why Lincoln says it's loving Ellen and Conan MKC ad spoofs [w/videos]

Mon, 13 Oct 2014

You would think that commercial being ridiculed across the Internet would be an advertising executive's worst nightmare, but that's not necessarily the case. At least not when it comes to Lincoln and its latest campaign to promote the new MKC.
The campaign features Matthew McConaughey channeling his characters from True Detective and The Lincoln Lawyer, and was quickly spoofed by both Conan O'Brien and Ellen DeGeneres. But instead of shaking their heads in dismay at the comedy talk-show hosts' take on their ad, Lincoln and its advertising firm Hudson Rouge welcome the free publicity.
"We're flattered. Just to get out into the public mind with parodies says you've achieved a certain amount of notoriety," Hudson Rouge CCO Jon Pearce told Automotive News. "It's hard to put a dollar amount on earned media. We couldn't ask for better."

Ford faces class-action lawsuit for selling vehicles without brake override systems

Fri, 29 Mar 2013

A total of 20 Ford customers are suing the automaker in a class-action lawsuit for selling vehicles "vulnerable to unintended acceleration." According to Reuters, the suit names 30 models built between 2002 and 2010 with electronic throttle control systems but without a brake override system. Those include the 2004-2012 F-Series pickups and the 2005-2009 Lincoln Town Car. Adam Levitt, a partner with the law firm of Grant & Eisenhofer says the plaintiffs in the case want "to be compensated for their economic losses by having overpaid for cars that contained defects." Levitt contends that the plaintiffs would not have bought their vehicles or paid less for them had they known there was no brake override system in place.
Ford began installing brake override systems in its vehicles beginning in 2010. In response to the lawsuit, Ford has pointed to research by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that indicated that unintended acceleration is mostly caused by driver error, saying in a statement that, "NHTSA's work is far more scientific and trustworthy than work done by personal injury lawyers and their paid experts."
Belville et al v. Ford Motor Co. will be heard in US District Court in the Southern District of West Virginia.
