Up for auction is my 1960 Thunderbird “squarebird” project. 352 V8 with Cruise-o-matic.  I have been working on this car for the past 2 years, but time has run out on this project and I need to sell before I move away in a few weeks. The car was running and driving last summer, but the battery has since died so it will need to be towed. I was having an issue with the engine bogging down while driving under load, which I believe to be a carb issue, but haven’t had the time to diagnose. When driving up hills I would have to go light on the gas otherwise the engine would stall. Much work has already been done since I’ve owned the car. I installed a new gas tank, sending unit, stainless steel fuel lines and fuel pump. I also converted the points ignition to a Pertronix solid state ignition and installed a new coil, cap rotor and plugs. The entire brake system was redone and converted to a disc brake setup up front. I used scarebird brackets on the stock spindles with mustang rotors and Chevy S/10 Blazer calipers. I installed an MBM dual “8 booster and Corvette dual master cylinder with proportioning valve. All the brake lines are cunifer and all the fittings are brass. The rear drums were replaced and new shoes, wheel cylinders and hardware were installed. Brakes have yet to be broken in. The rear shoes still need to arch to the new drums (sometimes the right rear brake grabs a little). I also added self adjusters to avoid having to manually adjust the drums every so often. I undercoated the wheel wells and underneath the gas tank with POR-15, but the rest of the floor pans need to be finished. All the electrical is good. I got all the lights working including all the dash, radio, dome and glove box lights. The interior is pretty worn but presentable and complete. The exterior is fairly solid but being a North East car its whole life there is some rust and rot. The floor boards and trunk pan are solid with the exception of a few pin holes. The rocker panel on the driver’s side should be replaced and the lower sections of the front wheel wells also need attention. The car looks great from 15 feet away, but when you get close you see some spots where the paint is bubbling around the rear wheel wells and on the front edge of the hood. The car looks likes it was repainted 20 years ago and there is some bondo work in a few areas.

The wheels and tires currently installed are red 15”X6” Wheel Vintiques Series 12 Gennie wheels with stainless steel beauty rings and ’42 Ford dog dish hubcaps with Diamondback “3 white wall radials 215/75/15 which are brand new - I paid $1400. These wheels and tires will only come with the car if the BUY IT NOW price is met. If the BUY IT NOW price is not met, I will install chrome American Racing Wheels with BF Goodrich tires pictured in the last two pictures of this auction.

This is an old car and is a project. I encourage bidders to ask any and all questions prior to bidding. The car can be viewed by appointment prior to the close of the auction. I expect the car to be picked up within 7 days of the auction close. Cash is preferred, but if you wish to pay by check, the check must clear prior to the car being released. Full payment is due within 7 days of auction close otherwise the car will be relisted. $500 deposit via paypal is due within 24 hours of auction close and is non-refundable. I have the NYS transferrable registration in hand and in my name and will also provide a bill of sale. No time for dreamers or scammers. If you bid, you bid to own. Zero or negative feedback bidders must email me prior to bidding. Don’t forget to ask your wife :-) Thank you and good luck

UPDATE: THE THUNDERBIRD IS NOW RUNNING!!! I hooked up a jump box and she fired right up. I forgot that the last time I worked on the car I had removed the heat riser valve just off the passenger side exhaust maifold. That's why the exhaust is so loud. I have a brand new spacer with gaskets that will be included with the sale. Please check out the new video below.

One Step at a Time
Nearly every flavor of exotic driveline has been shoved into the ubiquitous Ford at some point or another.
Chuck Schwynoch had been patiently listening to my ramblings on the other end of the phone for a solid half hour. I'm not too big of a man to know when to ask for help, and at this point, I desperately needed some assistance. The truth is, working on a machine like a Fox Body Mustang is as easy as breathing thanks to the wealth of information available on the web. Nearly every flavor of exotic driveline has been shoved into the ubiquitous Ford at some point or another, and odds are the sorry souls behind those builds shared the highs and lows of their torment with the internet community.

Focus ST diesel variant coming, just don't look for it here

Fri, 07 Mar 2014

A few years back, Volkswagen made some waves when it announced the Golf GTD - a diesel-powered car that, aside from its ultra-efficient, ultra-torquey engine, was identical to the gas-powered GTI. That meant cosseting sport seats, larger wheels, sportier suspension, larger brakes and a body kit that made the GTD indistinguishable from the GTI, except for the three little letters on the back and in the grille.
Now, Ford is looking to replicate VW's success, with a diesel version of the Focus ST. According to Motor Trend, the diesel-powered ST will use a 2.0-liter, 182-horsepower four-cylinder. With an unspecified amount of torque on offer (we'd guess around 280 pound-feet), the diesel hot hatch should hit 62 miles per hour in about eight seconds.
The report, which originally comes from Auto Express, claims the ST Diesel was confirmed by Ford Chief Marketing Officer Mark Fields during this week's Geneva Motor Show. Not surprisingly, it doesn't appear there are any plans to bring a diesel-powered Focus of any kind to the US, let alone one that uses the suspension, steering and other items from the ST. Of course, if there's an official confirmation from Ford, we'll be sure to report on it.

Last 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible nets $500k for charity at Barrett-Jackson [w/video]

Tue, 13 Aug 2013

The last 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible was sold on Saturday at a Barrett-Jackson auction in Reno, Nevada, for $500,000. Ford donated the Mustang to be auctioned for charity, and all of the money is going to the Brain Injury Association of America.
Parnelli Jones, winner of the 1963 Indianapolis 500, was there on behalf of the BIAA with his son Page, who suffered a brain injury in a sprint car crash in 1994. The bidding increased quickly, reaching $500k in no time, spreading a bit more hope to people who live with brain injuries.
The winning bidder will be able to choose the GT500's exterior, interior and stripe colors, and is scheduled to receive the car, signed by Parnelli Jones in appreciation for the donation, by the end of 2013. Watch the video below to see the auction-block action.
