Purchased from an estate this 1919 Paco bodied model T Racer is offered for sale.  The Paco  body was made in Galesberg Ill in 1919.  The Paco Speedster all steel bodies were made from 1916 to 1920.  Made to be mounted on a Model T frame they were patterned to resemble the Indy racers of the day.  This model is equipped with the mechanics seat which was the way Indy cars were built in that era, and were very popular on the dirt tracks  until the Forties.  This example is powered by the very rare Frontinac conversion of the Ford Model T engine.  The Frontinac Engine company of Indianoplis was owned by the Chevrolet Bros and was  the leading supplier of engines and conversion for the Indy 500 and other racers in the 1920s.  This is a model R head and conversion the very same that won the 1923 Indy 500 and placed 6 through 10 in 1922.  This engine conversion included steel balanced crank, Camel water pump, Fully pressurized lube system, distributor, downdraft model OC2 Stromberg carb, Model R overhead valve head and  manifolds plus numerous other Frontinac upgrades.  These Model R conversions are capable of 4200 rpm and can cruise all day at that level.  This one runs flawlessly and is coupled to a modern C4 Ford automatic with a Borg-Warner overdrive making top speed of over 90 MPH.  Rear axle is narrrowed model T, brakes  are Girling 4 wheel hydraulic.  12 volt system with electric starter    Seat cushion is removable with leather patterned closely to the orginal Paco interior.   This racer was found in a Southern California salvage yard and has been restored to resemble its appearance as a dirt track racer in the thirties.  Street legal with lights and stoplight.  Perfect for cruises or even the " Great Race".   I just brought the car back from a weekend at the vintage races at Road America and it will supply days of fun for the buyer at the many vintage car races through-out the US.  Car is located in Austin Mn and available for inspection anytime during the auction.  If unable to inspect the winning bidder, after a $1000. paypal deposit within 24 hours, will have ten days to inspect.  If for any reason buyer chooses not to complete purchase, he may "walk-away" and one-half of deposit will be refunded.  Any questions please E-Mail or call John @ 507 279 0752.

BMW, Hyundai score big in JD Power's first Tech Experience Index

Mon, Oct 10 2016

While automakers are quick to brag about winning a JD Power Initial Quality Study award, the reality, as we've pointed out before, is that these ratings are somewhat misleading, since IQS doesn't necessarily distinguish genuine quality issues. JD Power's new Tech Experience Index aims to solve that problem. The new metric takes the same 90-day approach as IQS but focuses exclusively on technology – collision protection, comfort and convenience, driving assistance, entertainment and connectivity, navigation, and smartphone mirroring. It splits the industry up into just seven segments, based loosely on size, which is why the Chevrolet Camaro is in the same division (mid-size) as Kia Sorento and the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class is in the same segment as the Hyundai Genesis (mid-size premium). It makes for some screwy bedfellows, to be sure. Still, splitting tech experience away from initial quality should allow customers to make more informed and intelligent decisions when buying new vehicles. In the inaugural study, respondents listed BMW and Hyundai as the big winners, with two segment awards – the 2 Series for small premium and the 4 Series for compact premium, and the Genesis for mid-size premium and Tucson for small segment. The Chevrolet Camaro (midsize), Kia Forte (compact), and Nissan Maxima (large) scored individual wins. Ford also had a surprising hit with the Lincoln MKC, which ranked third in the compact premium segment behind the 4 Series and Lexus IS. This is a coup for the Blue Oval, whose woeful MyFord Touch systems made the brand a victim of the IQS' flaws in the early 2010s. But Ford and other automakers might not want to celebrate just yet. According to JD Power, there's still a lot of room for improvement – navigation systems were the lowest-rated piece of tech in the study. Instead, customers repeatedly saluted collision-avoidance and safety systems, giving the category the best marks of the study and listing blind-spot monitoring and backup cameras as two must-have features – 96 percent of respondents said they wanted those two systems in their next vehicle. But this isn't really a surprise. Implementation of safety systems from brand to brand is similar, and they don't require any input from users, unlike navigation and infotainment systems which are frustratingly deep.

Ford previews new C-Max ahead of upcoming debut

Mon, 15 Sep 2014

Looking at a Ford Focus? These days you can get it as a five-door hatch, a four-door sedan, or... that's all. European buyers don't even get our sedan, but they do get a wagon. And while the three-door hatch, two-door coupe and two-door cabrio have long since ended production, buyers around the world can also get the company's larger C-Max. And now, like the Focus upon which it's based, Ford is preparing to roll out a new version.
The tall wagon (or small minivan, depending on your perspective) is being treated to what Ford says is "an extreme makeover." Details to accompany the teaser image above remain few and far between, but following the spy shots we recently posted, it looks destined for some of the same visual updates as Ford rolled out on the 2015 Focus, with "even more refinement, practicality and technology."
Like the Mercedes B-Class, which is only available Stateside as an EV, American buyers can only get the C-Max in electrified form, either as the C-Max Hybrid or C-Max Energi. Overseas buyers, however, will be able to choose from a range of powertrain options and two wheelbase lengths - the longer of which boasts seven seats and the Grand C-Max name. (Remember when Chrysler did the same with its minivans?) Both are set to debut on September 17, so watch this space. After that, we'll expect to see it on display at the Paris Motor Show.

Ford Focus ST diesel estate in track showdown with Focus ST hatch

Sun, Jan 18 2015

Diesel hot hatches are still a concept that's gaining ground. Obviously, there are none for sale in the US, but European buyers have the choice of at least the Volkswagen Golf GTD and Ford Focus ST Diesel. What better way to find out how the new, high-performance oil-burner really stacks up than for Ford to stage a race against the gasoline-fueled Focus ST? On paper, the ST Diesel is at a big performance detriment here. Its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 182 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque compared to 247 hp and 266 lb-ft for the gas version in this race. However while not a factor for this race, the oil-burner does offer better fuel economy and produces less CO2, which makes a difference for European buyers. Ford skews the race results by giving the ST Diesel Estate a two-second head start for this one-lap battle around the Castle Combe Circuit. Also, this is a video from the Blue Oval, which is going to further minimize the appearance of weakness for its vehicles. Still, both STs really get to show off their strengths, and it's worth seeing how the sibling rivalry shakes out at the finish line.
