| | | RARE Z-CODE 390CI V8/300HP CONVERTIBLE WITH AIR CONDITIONING, POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES, AND POWER CONVERTIBLE TOP! EXCEPTIONAL RUST FREE CAR WITH ORIGINAL DATE STAMPED SHEET METAL THROUGHOUT! WONDERFUL COLOR COMBINATION! | | | SPECIFICATIONS | | Year | 1964 | | Make | Ford | | Model | Galaxie 500XL | | VIN | 4Z69Z121389 | | Mileage | 82,306 | | Engine | 390ci/300hp | | Cylinders | V8 | | Transmission | Ford-O-Matic | | Title | Clear | | Color | Vintage Burgundy | | Interior Color | Palomino Vinyl | | | | | DESCRIPTION | | The Galaxie 500XL was introduced in 1962 with a variety of engine and power accessory options. These early generation examples offered horizontal front headlamps, refined aerodynamics, and upgraded interior appointments to buyers. With the ever-changing pace of vehicle production in the 1960’s, this body style lasted only until 1964 making way for a new design, once again, in 1965. This beautiful 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL convertible comes finished in Vintage Burgundy over Parchment interior with a new Tan convertible top. Equipped with its original, date-code correct 390ci/300hp V8 engine, chrome engine dress-up kit, Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission, added Vintage Air custom air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, bucket seats with center console, driver side remote mirror, power convertible top, fender skirts, 3-bar XL wheel covers, rear fender skirts, and updated AM/FM/Cassette radio unit with JVC 12-disc changer mounted cleanly in the trunk! It showcases a very sharp cosmetic restoration that included a professional exterior re-spray of the body. The chrome bumpers and bright work on the car appear all original and remain in very good to excellent condition! Everything was removed for the repaint providing a better than factory new appearance, with only the paint still visible on the trunk floor remaining factory applied. Inside, the carpet, seating upholstery, door panels, dash pad, door sill plates, sun visors, etc. continue to be original throughout. The custom tan-colored convertible top with glass window was replaced for new along with fresh weather stripping. Underneath the hood, you will find all original date-coded engine components including intake manifold, 4-barrel carburetor, heads, and exhaust manifolds. Also visible are the correct fender date stamps and a complete VIN stamp located on the cowl. The chassis and body are exceptional! Date-stamped, original body panels throughout, with untouched original pans and perfect panels gaps! The original Car-Lite side window glass fits wonderfully as well. It shows a nicely finished trunk compartment complete with jack, spare tire, and lug wrench; floor mating and tire changing instruction sticker affixed under the deck lid. It rides on new Goodyear Custom Super Cushion whitewall tires. The gas tank was removed, boiled, and painted for years of protection. The entire exhaust system is new and used MagnaFlow stainless steel mufflers. Great sound! The odometer reads just 82,307 miles today, and we feel the car showcases itself well enough to support original mileage, but at this time we do not have enough documented evidence to make such a claim. Overall, this is an extremely solid and very drivable collector car that should make for a terrific future investment! These cars are quickly finding homes overseas, so finding an honest original, fully equipped 500XL like this one is quickly becoming hard to do. Please feel free to call with any questions!

One of the unexpected side effects of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic is a shortage of pickups at Chevrolet, GMC and Ram dealers. Supplies are running out, and the factories that build these trucks remain closed. Stores across the nation began increasing incentives in March, when the first stay-at-home orders were issued, in a bid to continue luring buyers into showrooms. They also launched online sales channels, or expanded their existing digital business. Sales nonetheless plummeted in April 2020, but in-demand vehicles, like the Ram 1500 and the Chevrolet Silverado, are still selling relatively well thanks in part to the aforementioned incentives. Pickups outsold sedans for the first time in April 2020, according to The Detroit News, by 17,000 units. The problem is that General Motors, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), and Ford temporarily closed their factories in March. "The pipeline is very dry," said Mike Maroone, the CEO of a large dealership group named Maroone USA, in an interview with Automotive News. He told the publication his Chevrolet stores are sitting on a 30-day supply of the Silverado, which is one of America's best-selling vehicles. "That is a problem for us," he concluded. Coronavirus-related lockdowns and factory closures compound problems already faced by dealerships who represent General Motors-owned brands. They entered 2020 with a thinner inventory than a year earlier due to the 40-day United Auto Workers (UAW) strike that paralyzed the company late in 2019, and the 0%, 84-month offers announced in March have sapped supply. Ram wasn't affected by a strike, but it has relied heavily on generous incentives to move trucks off lots. Ford, on the other hand, limited incentives to 2019 models. Inventory levels differ greatly from region to region. The national average for the Silverado stood at an 82-day supply in March 2020, down from 120 in March 2019. Ram stores had a 114-day supply of the 1500 (compared to 134 a year earlier), while Ford bucked that trend with a 111-day supply versus 84 in 2019. Don't panic if you're in the market for a truck; we're not facing a complete drought. Automotive News added that America's light-duty pickup inventory could fall to 400,000 units by the end of May, and drop further to 260,000 units in June. For context, there were about 700,000 light-duty trucks in stock in May and June of 2019. That's unquestionably a sharp drop, but there will still be over a quarter of a million trucks to choose from.

Ford is rumored to be considering concurrent production for old and new F-150 models in a bid to minimize supply chain disruptions and inventory. Automotive News is reporting that the Blue Oval will build both the current F-150 and its replacement, which we showed you testing just last month, side by side for about half a year before switching over entirely to next-generation production. As IHS Automotive analyst Mike Jackson told AN, "In order to ramp up, you have to retool...and that means you have to take capacity offline." Building both models alongside could allow Ford to cope with the still strong demand for the current F-150, while populating dealer supplies and working out supply chain kinks for the new model before making a full-time switch. A loss of capacity when demand is so strong, even for a short period, could spell bad news for Ford, which nets an estimated 90 percent of its global profit on pickups and large SUVs. As AN states, Ford produces the F-150 in both Kansas City, Missouri and Dearborn, Michigan, which allows it to maintain some degree of flexibility in production. The new F-150 is expected to arrive at the 2014 North American International Auto Show as a 2015 model, with a design inspired by the Atlas Concept first shown at the Detroit Auto Show last January.

When Ford revealed the new Focus RS at the Geneva Motor Show, it promised it would deliver "well in excess of 315 horsepower." It didn't say exactly how much that would come to, but now it has. On the eve of its dynamic debut at the hands of Ken Block at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Ford has confirmed that its new hot hatch will pack 350 metric horsepower. Those reaching for their calculators will find that works out to 345 horsepower by our standards. The power output is backed up by 324 pound-feet of torque, capable of being boosted up to 347 for up to fifteen seconds at a time. Those figures come from a retuned version of the same 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo four as the one available in the Mustang, but produces over ten percent more power thanks to a new turbocharger, upgraded intake and exhaust, and a larger radiator. All that muscle will be channeled to all four wheels through Ford Performance's new all-wheel drive system with dynamic torque vectoring, launch control, and selectable drive modes, including a Drift Mode that (as you can see from the video below) allows the hot hatch to get more than a little sideways. Ford still isn't saying what those specs will translate to in terms of measurable performance figures, but as far as output goes, things are looking pretty good. The 30th Ford RS model already packs more power and torque than the new Honda Civic Type R (306 hp, 295 lb-ft), Volkswagen Golf R (292 hp, 280 lb-ft), Subaru WRX STI (305 hp, 290 lb-ft) or the Nurburgring-conquering Renault Megane 275 Trophy-R (271 hp, 266 lb-ft) and Seat Leon Cupra (276 hp, 258 lb-ft). It even respectably holds its own against the more upscale BMW M235i (320 hp, 330 lb-ft), Mercedes A45/CLA45 AMG (355 hp, 332 lb-ft), and Audi RS3 (362 hp, 343 lb-ft). Whether it'll outshine them all in real-world conditions remains to be seen, but we're looking forward to finding out whenever Ford deems fit to drops those performance stats on us.
