The Dodge D100 Pickup was the predecessor to the wildly popular Dodge Rams. These trucks were manufactured from 1961 until 1980. The first two generations of this model were a basic, no frills workmanlike vehicle, although Dodge is credited with first Crew Cab four door style for a pickup in 1963. The first generation of the D series trucks were actually manufactured in Argentina, by subsidiary Chrysler-Fevre Argentina S.A.

Even though Dodge built a new pickup each year, they seemed to always retain the same basic appearance, concentrating on interior refinements and other details. By 1970, this design began to appear outdated.

There was an attempt to spice up the line with the introduction of the specialty option, "Dodge Dude". This model was only offered in 1970 and 1971. Only 1,500-2,000 units were sold. The writing was on the wall, and for the 1972 model year the third generation D100 was introduced.

This model was a complete redesign of the D Series. This generation lasted from 1972 until 1980, and introduced a more rounded look, similar to the 1973–1987 GM trucks. This basic design for the third generation actually lasted until the 1993, rebadged as Dodge Ram, a continuous run of the same basic design for 21 years. However, there were several improvements over the years,, included new features such as an independent front suspension and pocketed tail lights(the distinctive reverse on top lights were recessed to .25 in (6.4 mm) to avoid damage in loading docks and confined spaces). Styling cues, such as the scalloped hood and rounded fenderwells, were similar to the rounded, smooth look of the 1971 Plymouth Satellite. These trucks were built with a considerable amount of galvanized steel to resist rust and corrosion making them very durable. Because of this, today these trucks make great restoration projects.

Dodge also pioneered the extended cab pickup with the introduction of the Club Cab with the 1972 models. This was a two-door cab with small rear windows which had more space behind the seats than the standard cab, but not as long as the four door Crew Cab. 1972 also saw the introduction of the 440 cu in engine as an option for the light trucks.

The 1972 D Series was made famous in the television show, "Emergency!" where it was the featured paramedic rescue squad vehicle for the entire seven seasons of the popular show.

Everyone knows the ending to the story. In 1994, Dodge introduced the most revolutionary and modern vehicle in the history of pickup truck design, the 1994 Dodge Ram. However, without the research and development of the D Series through the years, it is unlikely the modern Ram would have been as well designed and  immensely popular as the truck is currently .

Very straight, all steel body. Refinished in Sublime. This is one of the Dodge impact colors from the muscle car era. In fact, Chrysler had resurrected the color for use in new Chargers and Challengers. Vehicle was painted approximately 10 years ago. Some typical minor driving flaws, chips and scratches that have been touched up. One minor area of bubbling on bottom of passenger door. Minor bubbling at the bottom of the bed panels. Overall paint quality is good/ very good. Blacked out hood. Daytona rear stripe. Dual sport mirrors. Chrome is in very good condition. The driver tail light bezel has some pitting, but the remaining bright work, bumpers, etc. are in very good shape. All glass is in very good condition. Grille is in good condition also. Weld Drag Star wheels, deep dish in the rear. New BF Goodrich radial tires all around.

Original 318 engine has been replaced with a rebuilt 360 Cu. In. engine. The engine is not a drastic, aggressive race car type. Rather, it is a nicely upgraded street machine build. Holley four barrel carburetor mounted on an aluminum intake manifold. Cast iron heads. Hydraulic cam and valve train. Stock exhaust manifolds connected to a new free flow dual exhaust. MT valve covers, chrome air cleaner.

Chrysler A-833 four speed transmission. Vintage Hurst shifter. Both the transmission and shifter were removed from a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner. The shifter was nicknamed "swizzle stick" or "wiggle stick" due to the wide throw of the shifter. Even when new, shifting with these could be a challenge. This shifter has been used, so there is considerable play in it. However, this is a very expensive shifter that sells on Ebay for $500 and up complete. Bushing kits are available to rebuild these units. Power steering. Power brakes. Coil over shocks in the front. Air shocks in the rear. Undercarriage is not detailed. However, it is clean and solid.

Leather bucket seat interior. Power driver seat. Inside of cab has also been refinished in Sublime. Seats, cushions, and covers are in good condition. Steering wheel, dash, and carpet are also in good condition. Original passenger door panel in good condition. Original driver door panel has a repair, but it is acceptable. Alternator, water temperature, fuel, and oil pressure gauges. Factory AM radio. Seat belts.

FCA recalls 570,000 SUVs from Jeep and Dodge over fire woes

Sun, Dec 27 2015

Fiat Chrysler US has issued two recalls covering a total of about 570,000 Jeep and Dodge models. The first concerns vanity mirror wiring in the Jeep Grand Cherokee from the 2011 and 2012 model years, and in Dodge Durango units built before September 12, 2012. The automaker recalled almost 900,000 units last year to repair the issue, then faced more issues this year when the fires continued in repaired vehicles. This new recall seeks to resolve the issue, FCA saying that the post-recall fires happened in a tiny percentage of vehicles equipped with a specific wiring package. This recall is for 352,831 total units in the US, another 26,478 in Canada, 13,037 in Mexico, and 84,330 internationally. No injuries or deaths have been reported. FCA says it will inform customers as to when they can schedule a service visit to remedy the issue. The second recall takes aim at 60,107 examples of the Jeep Compass and Patriot from the 2015 model year in the US, plus 5,755 in Canada, 3,351 in Mexico, and 23,995 in other markets. Those models could suffer from an out-of-position clamp on the power steering fluid line. The error could allow fluid to leak, increasing the risk of a fire if the fluid ends up on a hot surface. In the case of a complete loss of fluid, drivers will need to use a lot more effort to steer. The automaker reports no injuries or accidents, and will advise customers when to head to the dealer for service. Post-service overheating conditions were observed only in vehicles equipped with a certain wiring package. These vehicles were produced before Sept. 2, 2012.Affected are model-year 2011-2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs produced before Sept. 2, 2012. Wiring in the headliners of these vehicles will be secured with a new adhesive.

Dodge Charger Pursuit nets quickest lap in police car test

Mon, 30 Sep 2013

We wouldn't advocate trying to outrun the police, no matter what you're driving and no matter what they are. But if you see a Dodge Charger bearing down on you with blue lights flashing in your rearview mirror, you'd better think twice before attempting to flee, because the Charger Pursuit has once again emerged as the fastest police cruiser out there.
In the latest Police Vehicle Evaluation held by the Michigan State Police at Grattan Raceway, Dodge says its new Charger Pursuit AWD posted a lap time of 1:33.85. That's quicker than any of the other law enforcement vehicles present, but also makes it the quickest all-wheel-drive cruiser available to law-enforcement officials. That may not make it the quickest of all time, but that honor belongs to the rear-drive Dodge Charger Pursuit, which cuts a fraction of a second off its AWD counterpart's time with a 1:33.70. But in regions where the extra traction could come in handy, that's as negligible a difference as we've ever seen.
Of course, the annual PVE sessions held by the Michigan State Police take in to account a wide variety of performance tests, including top speed, acceleration, braking, handling, fuel economy and ergonomics. The MSP has yet to reveal its full findings from its 2014 model year tests, but we'll be sure to bring them to you when they are published.

Ford Police Interceptors dominate Michigan State Police testing

Tue, Nov 1 2016

Once again, Ford Motor Company builds the fastest police vehicles. The Blue Oval touted the news in an official release following Michigan State Police and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department testing. Ford did very well. Except for one acceleration metric – zero to 10 miles per hour – the Blue Oval's Taurus and Explorer-based cop cars were the quickest, with particular praise coming for the EcoBoost-powered models, which bested Chevrolet and Dodge's V8-powered variants. Dearborn's products also posted the fastest average times around MSP's vehicle dynamics course. But it wasn't all positive for Ford. The only four-cylinder in the contest, the 2.0-liter, EcoBoost Ford SSP Sedan, had both the lowest top speed, 120 mph, and the slowest acceleration figures. It was also the slowest in track testing. Ford's products also failed to match the braking and top speeds of its rivals from Detroit and Auburn Hills – the rear-drive Charger Pursuit posted the best braking stats of the entire test, while the V8-powered Chevrolet Caprice hit the highest top speed, at 155 mph. Ford did score a top speed award, among SUVs, but at 132 mph, the naturally aspirated Police Interceptor Utility had to share its award with the equally fast, rear-drive Chevrolet Tahoe. The LA County Sheriff's timing isn't publicly available, but according to Ford, the EcoBoost-powered police cars put on a similarly impressive show for cops on the West Coast. We've assembled a spreadsheet on Google Docs that offers an easy to browse comparison of the different stats assembled by the Michigan State Police, and divided the vehicles between standard V6-powered sedans, high-performance sedans (EcoBoost and V8 models), and SUVs. You can check it out here. Related Video:
