1969 Chevelle Malibu: Original 307 V8 with turbo 350 automatic transmission. This car is all original and came with tilt wheel, rear defrost, power disc brakes, remote mirror, bucket seats, console, astro ventilation, remote mirror,  and vinyl top.

THE FOLLOWING STATEMENTS REGARDING THIS VEHICLES CONDITION ARE BASED ON MY OPINION. I have made every effort to describe this vehicle as accurately as possible and disclose any known issues associated with this vehicle at the present time. I welcome any questions regarding this vehicle during the auction period.

MECHANICAL: This car runs and drives. I had the original carburetor rebuilt, but when i installed it , it always ran rich and did not perform right, so i bought another carburetor and it was rebuilt but never installed. The current mileage shown is 104,123 and i suspect it to be original because the car sat for 12 years before i purchased it. I took the body off the frame, wire wheeled the entire frame and painted it DE 1635 black from napa. I installed new body mounts and polyurethane bushings. Every component on the frame has been cleaned and painted. The engine ,transmission, and rear end are original to the car. The only non stock items on the car are new dual 2 1/2 inch exhaust with 40 series Flowmaster mufflers, and Edelbrock performer plus cam and lifter set. The transmission shifts good but after i installed it i noticed the front lip seal was leaking a very small amount so i bought a new one but never installed it. I have driven the car about 600 miles and added about a 1/4 of a quart of transmission fluid, so it is a very slow leak. The rearend is a ten bolt and im not sure the gear ratio.

ELECTRICAL: All essential electrical related components(headlamps, taillights, turn signals, windshield wipers, and fuel gauge works. The factory clock does not work, and the rear defrost sometimes will work, and sometimes does not work. The car has never been smoked in and the cigarette lighter works and has never been used. The factory AM radio turns on and lights up but i do not hear any sound. The factory wiring harness is in very good shape. I have not found any corrosion in the fuse box. The wiring is not old and brittle and does not appear to be spliced into. The horn does not work.

INTERIOR: The car has black interior. All the seats are good. All the door panels are in the car but they are a little rough. The center console is in the car. The car has all the seatbelts except for the passenger side shoulder belt buckle. I have all the armrests but the vinyl is starting to crack on them. The package tray insert is gone. I removed the carpet because it was ruined and i wanted to inspect the floors. The headliner is good. The sun visors are good but one is coming apart slightly on the drivers side. The plastic above the ashtray has 2 small holes where it looks like someone mounted something to it. On the instrument panel some of the paint is coming off. One of the hoses for the astro ventilation came off and is in the glovebox.

EXTERIOR BODY: This car has some rust in the floor pans, but i think the holes can be welded. The trunk floor needs to be replaced. Behind the rear wheels is rusty, but i think they could be fixed with patch panels. the driver side is worse than the passenger side. I have not seen any rust in the front or rear window channels, but i cant be sure because the windows have not been removed. I can always take more photos if requested. I removed the front clip and repaired the rust in the front fenders with patch panels. The hood, fenders, and front filler panels are in primer. I sandblasted the original steel wheels and they are also in primer. I put brand new 205 75 14 optima tires on. The car has all the original chrome and stainless trim. The chrome and stainless steel trim is in used condition. The rear bumper is new. I removed some of the vinyl top to inspect for rust damage and found none.

This car runs and drives good but is definitely a project. There are many new parts, but alot of original used parts. I hope the photos show everything, but i am happy to take more if needed. I have every receipt for anything done to this car since new. I have the protecto plate. I also have the order sheet and business card from the dealer when this car was ordered. I have the original keys and the knockout tags from the keys on the original dealer keychain. I have the first registration also. I am the second owner. I have every piece of paper this car came with except for the window sticker. The car has the original plates also.

Chevy might've pulled out of NASCAR if it weren't for new Gen 6 car

Wed, 20 Feb 2013

We've been on the fence with NASCAR for some time now. On one hand, it's some of the closest racing anywhere in motorsports, with actual passing and door-handle-to-door-handle action as a matter of course. But on the other, it's become template racing - a personality-driven sport more about the drivers than any sort of loyalty to a particular automaker. The Car Of Tomorrow format really rammed that message home, with a racecar's identity coming down to little more than headlamp stickers slapped on the nose. That's not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself, but we've wondered for some time what's in it for the automakers, who pay big money to stay in a series that has had little increasingly little do with street car sales, let alone innovation.
Apparently General Motors was beginning to wonder the same thing. In a new ESPN report, Rick Hendrick, team owner of Hendrick Motorsports, suggests that GM would have seriously considered leaving NASCAR if it wasn't for the move away from the COT to the new Gen 6 racer. According to Hendrick, GM North America boss Mark Reuss spearheaded the charge away from the 2007 COT and toward a racecar with clearer automaker ties - cars like the new Chevrolet SS racer shown above. Learn more about the fight for a closer-to-production look in the ESPN story at the link.
Now, if we could just get more rear-wheel drive V8 coupes into showrooms....

These are the 10 longest-lasting vehicles on the road today

Tue, Nov 29 2022

Buying a car has started feeling pretty bad. It’s hard to find what you want, and when you do, thereÂ’s a great chance itÂ’s not selling for the price you thought it would be. The least stressful way of coping with the situation is not to buy a new car, but how can you know how long your current ride will last? A recent study from iSeeCars found that some vehicles are prone to deliver many more miles of usable driving than others. iSeeCars looked at more than 2 million cars. The mileage over which the top 1% of cars within each model obtained was calculated and used to rank models, and the study required that a vehicle be sold for at least 10 of the past 20 years to be included. Unsurprisingly, Toyota dominated the top-10 list, but most of the other models come from General Motors with one Honda thrown into the mix. Ranked by mileage, the top-ten longest-lasting vehicles include: Toyota Highlander Hybrid: 244,94 miles Toyota Avalon: 245,710 miles Honda Ridgeline: 248,669 miles Chevrolet Tahoe: 250,338 miles Toyota Prius: 250,601 miles GMC Yukon XL: 252,360 miles Toyota Tundra: 256,022 miles Chevrolet Suburban: 265,732 miles Toyota Land Cruiser: 280,236 miles Toyota Sequoia: 295,509 miles The iSeeCars study found that SUVs and trucks occupy 75 percent of the top 20 vehicles with the potential to last the longest, and Toyota alone accounts for half of the top 20. Interestingly, the Prius and Highlander Hybrid made the list, suggesting that automakers are getting better at making batteries last a long time. "What we see is a list of highly-durable vehicles, capable of more than a quarter-million miles of use if properly maintained," said iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer. "And to be clear, this study isnÂ’t reporting the maximum lifespan of these vehicles. This is simply a measure of current odometer readings. Most of these cars are still in use and going strong." Of course, the longevity of a vehicle has a lot to do with how itÂ’s treated and maintained over its lifetime. ItÂ’s easy to find stories of people nursing Toyota Tundras and other vehicles past a million miles, and thereÂ’s a 1960s Volvo with more than 3 million miles. Some vehicle types, particularly the largest SUVs, are often used as road-trip vehicles by large families, which means they tend to rack up big mileage. In most cases, buying and owning a higher-mileage car can be a risk, so itÂ’s essential to get a pre-purchase inspection or regular maintenance if you already own one.

Autoblog In Cuba: 1957 Chevy Bel Air Review

Mon, Oct 5 2015

If you've been following the Autoblog In Cuba series, you may remember that my efforts to rent a car in the country were ultimately unsuccessful. Misinformation, bad planning, and a lack of rental car inventory conspired to disrupt my hoped-for driving adventure. I discovered in my week of exploration, however, that the terrific thing about Havana is that there's always another adventure to be found – if you're willing to look. A car I could drive myself might have been impossible to come by, but a ride to remember was not. After all, even when reviewing a new car, I've found that impressions about the car and the route can be credibly formed from the right seat. Starting from the parking lot of the grand Hotel Nacional, finding an interesting car for hire is as simple as walking up and down the block. Scads of classic American iron wait just outside the hotel gates, in a riot of colors and conditions befitting the tropical climate. Fords from the 1940s are plentiful – more sedans than coupes – and the glory days of General Motors are represented by enough Pontiacs and Cadillacs to fill a Bruce Springsteen B-sides album. But the Chevy Bel Air is the king of the road here, by some margin. View 30 Photos I settled on a burnt orange 1957 Chevy Bel Air convertible, in tourist-appropriate condition. I was looking for a hardtop at the request of my crew's audio/video needs, but settled on a burnt orange 1957 Chevy Bel Air convertible, in tourist-appropriate condition. This car might look good as a prop in the background on your vacation photos – hair blowing in the breeze with the ocean at your back, parked in front of Che's face in Revolution Square, etc. – but was far from pristine on a closer inspection. A perfect representative of the Cuban average. At least the price was right: $50 for two hours to make it 12 miles to Hemingway's house, and back. My driver was a kid named Daniel who looked to be about 20 years old. The Chevy doesn't belong to him, he co-drives it with the owner, but he was able to give me the basic mechanical rundown. The eight- or six-cylinder engine that Chevy shipped this convertible with was long gone. No surprise there, as nearly every American-made car I'd ridden in so far was powered by some belching Mercedes diesel. Despite it's clattering note, Daniel said the lump under the hood of the '57 drinks gas: a four-cylinder of Russian origins, pulled out of a GAZ Volga as best I can understand.
