Double Nickel 55 Chevrolet BelAir

This amazing 2-door sedan has a 40+ year history as a rust free Alberta car and has just received an over the top 2-year rotisserie restoration with no expense having been spared. Appraised at $265,500.00 there is no other like it, and it would cost more than a quarter million to have a shop duplicate this Hot Rod 55 for you. The car is an all original sheet metal build that was stripped to bare metal and built with the highest degree to detail throughout. It's equipped with a street friendly big block making over 713hp and an amazing 732 foot pounds of torque. Here's the short list of options:

Big Block Chev 565ci Dart Big M Engine
Tremec T-56 Magnum 6 Speed Manual Transmission
Currie 9" Locker Differential with Strange 35 Spline Axles
Pro Stock 4-Link Rear with QA1 Coil Over Shocks
Heidts Tubular Front Suspension with QA1 Coil Overs
Hydra-Tech Power Brakes with Wilwood Master
Wilwood 4-wheel Disk Brakes w/ Drilled Slotted Rotors

Extensive on board electronics, professionally wired.
The list goes on and on...and so does the custom stuff!

The car starts instantly, is very easy to drive, makes phenomenal power and will literally stop on a dime. It cruises at 2000 rpm while doing 75 mph and averages 12 mpg highway. I built the car from scratch with the help of a few friends while the body, paint and upholstery were handled by the pros. I have all receipts, pictures and technical info for the entire build. It was completed in June 2013 and I just finished working out the bugs where the car is ready to go into a collection and become somebody else's favorite hot rod. Awards and wins at major shows include numerous best in class, outstanding in class, outstanding paint, best engine, outstanding detail, best interior, outstanding street machine, peoples choice awards, and the list goes on.

This is a high end build for the "serious" hot rod collector. I will openly discuss the possible sale with those who "have the means" to own it and will consider a partial or group trade on late 60's muscle cars, a TriFive 4x4, 30's Hot Rod, or original Chevrolet survivor cars. No interest in anything after 1972 and no interest in bikes, projects or basket cases. This car is also advertised locally and I reserve the right to end this listing at anytime should a private sale be made. Payment by direct bank to bank wire is required and payment subject to bank clearing times before vehicle is picked up or shipped. I will work with overseas buyers to have the car shipped to a suitable port of entry for shipping by sea carrier. Serious collectors can call me direct at 403-669-4035 between 10AM and 10PM Mountain Standard Time.  My time is valuable as I'm sure your is, so please, lets not waste anyone's time.

Serious collectors only please.

On 02-Sep-13 at 12:05:53 EDT, seller added the following information:

I've had a bunch of questions about the car so here are some of the answers. Exhaust is all custom made with 321 Stainless Steel. Headers have 1/2" Stainless Flanges and they're a stepped design from 2" to 2-1/8" primaries with 3.5" merge collectors. There is 3" stainless tubes running to the rear bumpers with Hooker Aero Chamber Mufflers and V-Band connectors for quick release. The sound of the exhaust is very deep and throaty, and when you put your foot into it, it becomes very loud indeed. The steering is Rack & Pinion with a custom stainless tubular mount and polished stainless Borgeson shafts. Steers great and I had it aligned in June 2013 when the car was brought out. Brakes are power assist from the hydraulics and runs off the accumulator which is mounted behind the master cylinder (very responsive). The radiator is a PRC 2 row heavy duty aluminum rad and it runs with dual Spal 2300cfm 12" fans and a custom made shroud. I run with one fan around town and both fans when stuck in traffic. Runs in the 180 range with both fans when in thick traffic on a hot summer day. The rad, the support and the shroud have all been painted body color with House of Kolor paint to match the car. The cage within the car is from Art Morrison but has a few custom touches to fit it tight to the headliner. It was designed to be removable and can be taken out with very minimal work so that's not a problem. It's not tagged yet but can be done at anytime to meet NHRA certification. The car is capable of a 10.5 second quarter mile and hooks up very well. I has not been down the track yet but is track ready should the new owner decide to race the car on a given weekend.

All engine internals are premium parts with no import pieces. Block has Nodular Splayed Billet Mains, Melling Pump, Milodan Pan, Callies Ultra Forged 4.250 Crank, Clevite H Bearings, Oliver MaxPro Billet Rods, JE Forged 10.25:1 Pistons, Tool Steel Pins, Bullet Solid Roller Cam 715" Lift @ 252/258 Duration, Dart Pro 1 345cc Heads, Ferrea Valves, Manley Springs, Crower Stainless Shaft Roller Rockers, Dart Intake, Holley 1150 Dominator with Billet Metering Blocks, Annular Boosters and has had a 3 Circuit Conversion, MSD Pro Billet Dist with 6AL-II Programable Ignition. Clutch is a McLeod Dual Disk RST with Hydraulic Release and a Quicktime Scattershield. Driveshaft is an Inland 3.5" Aluminum with 1350 Yokes, and the Currie Diff is narrowed to 52" with a Strange Nodular Detroit Locker, 35 Spline Axles and 373:1 Rear Gears. All of the front wiring is hidden, and the MSD is mounted up under the dash with a quick release removable plate. I did that as I wanted to keep the smoothed firewall looking clean!

That should answer most peoples questions? If not, ask away?

This map reveals the cleanest vehicles based on location

Thu, Apr 28 2016

Naysayers love to point out how dirty the electricity grid mix is when it comes to charging electric vehicles. Curmudgeons are eager to jump into any conversation about EVs to enlighten the lucky listeners about how plug-in cars contribute to pollution, sometimes even throwing in a dash of climate-change denial for good measure. (Thanks, buddy. Pray, tell me more about the plight of oppressed SUV owners.) Unless someone buys an EV just because they think they're cool (which, yeah, they often are), they probably have at least a passable understanding of their environmental pros and cons. As many EV owners are already aware, location has a lot to do with any particular plug-in car's carbon footprint. Still, there's always more to know, and knowledge is not a bad thing, especially if one uses it to do the right thing. That's why this handy-dandy map from Carnegie Mellon University is so interesting. CMU researchers have compiled information about the lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions of various EVs based on where they're charged, as compared to gasoline-powered vehicles. The researchers looked at the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Volt, and Prius Plug-In Hybrid versus the gasoline-dependent Toyota Prius hybrid and the stop-start-equipped Mazda3 with i-ELOOP and compared grams of CO2 emitted per mile. CMU takes into account the grid mix, ambient temperature, and driving patterns. CMU takes into account the grid mix based on county, as well as ambient temperature and driving patterns in terms of miles traveled on the highway or in the city. For instance, if you drive a Nissan Leaf in urban areas of California, Texas, or Florida, your carbon footprint is lower than it would be if you were driving a standard Toyota Prius. However, if you charge your Leaf in the Midwest or the South, for the most part, you've got a larger carbon footprint than the Prius. If you live in the rural Midwest, you'd probably even be better off driving a Mazda3. Throughout the country, the Chevrolet Volt has a larger carbon footprint than the Toyota Prius, but a smaller one than the Mazda3 in a lot of urban counties in the US. The Prius and Prius Plug-In are relatively equal across the US. Having trouble keeping it straight? That's not surprising. The comparisons between plug-in and gasoline vehicles are much more nuanced than the loudest voices usually let on.

Chevy to show redesigned Captiva in Geneva, will it come to US rental lots?

Wed, 27 Feb 2013

Unless you're renting a car or driving through Orlando, Florida (the rental car capital of the US), you'll probably never see a Chevrolet Captiva - the rebadged, fleet-only version of the old Saturn Vue - on our roads, but this crossover is popular in many other parts of the world. As such, Chevrolet announced that the Captiva will be getting an update for 2013, which will be unveiled next week at the Geneva Motor Show.
Coming off a pretty extensive refresh in 2011, the 2013 model year will bring even more changes to the Captiva like LED taillights, new 18-inch wheels and revised fascias with a new grille and fog lights up front and inset chrome exhaust outlets at the rear. New interior features include heated rear seats, dual-zone climate control as well as available options on some of the upper trim levels such as leather seating and keyless entry and start. We have yet to hear back from Chevrolet as to whether or not the updated Captiva will be making its way to a rental lot near you, as the model is only available in the US to fleet buyers.
Alongside the updated Captiva, Chevy is also showing off its new Trax in Europe, where the subcompact crossover will go on sale this spring. GM's press release for these two Geneva-bound models is posted below.

Chevrolet planning low-cost Corvette under Stingray?

Wed, 27 Feb 2013

If you're burnt out on musings about the Chevrolet Corvette, you'll want to go ahead and skip this post. Motor Trend reports General Motors is hard at work on a low-cost version of the seventh-generation sports car for 2015. Rumored to be called the Corvette Coupe, the car will forgo the Stingray and skip the 450-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine in favor of a 5.3-liter V8 with under 400 ponies. If you're keeping track, that's a shade of the same engine found behind the headlights of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
The report also suggests the Coupe will receive a number of aesthetic tweaks to separate it from the Stingray, including different front and rear fascias as well as new front fenders and a rear diffuser. Motor Trend says the point of all this is to cut the car's price tag, which means we may see a Corvette on showroom floors for less than $50,000 if this car comes to fruition.
