Lesson learned: don't buy a car on Ebay without looking at it. I did, now I'm selling the car. This 65 Corvair left the LA plant as a white 500 with a blue interior. Now it's an Avocado Green with Black interior Monza wannabe. That doesn't make it a bad car; it's just not what I wanted. This is a good, driver-quality car that needs some TLC. 17,700 undocumented miles on the odometer. I have over 4 grand invested so far. PA Antique title in hand.

The Good:

This car has a solid undercarriage, the engine runs well and the 4-speed trans and clutch are good. New brakes and wheel cylinders all around, new fuel tank sending unit, new turn signal switch. Really nice interior and a repro owner's manual and shop books. Starts almost every time (see The Bad), gets lots of looks, smiles and "thumbs up."  There are spare parts and a Sparkomatic 8-track I'll throw in, too.

The Bad:

There's a slight oil leak from the transmission (see photo). It's nothing that can't be fixed for cheap. It's going to need 4 tires soon. There's no jack. The horn works, but the horn button assembly in the steering wheel is no good. The wipers work, but the washers don't. It may need a starter solenoid or ignition switch: every once in a while it won't turn over. Let it sit for a few hours and Hey Presto, you're motoring. There is some slight rust on the outer door skins. And I mean slight.

The Ugly:

The body looks like someone gave Stevie Wonder a bucket of Bondo and turned him loose, followed by a ten year-old with spray cans of green paint. No kidding. Look at the photos.

The car is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early. Car is currently in Newtown Square, Pa.

Ask questions! I will be completely honest in my answers! I can take pictures of any parts of the car and send them to you. Bid to BUY, not to look at it and change your mind!

$250 nonrefundable deposit due via Paypal within 48 hours of auction close. Balance due in certified bank funds within 7 days, car must be picked up within two weeks. Neither the car nor the title leave my possession until ALL funds have cleared my bank.

GM promises to add 20 EVs and fuel-cell cars to lineup, paid for by SUVs

Mon, Oct 2 2017

DETROIT — General Motors outlined plans on Monday to add 20 new battery electric and fuel-cell vehicles to its global product lineup by 2023, financed by robust profits from sales of gasoline-fueled trucks and sport utility vehicles in the United States and China. "General Motors believes in an all-electric future," GM global product development chief Mark Reuss said on Monday during a briefing at the company's suburban Detroit technical center. Future generations of GM electric vehicles "will be profitable," Reuss said, but added it was not clear when GM could make all its new vehicle offerings zero-emission electric cars. Regulators in China and some European countries have floated proposals to ban internal combustion engines by 2030 or 2040. "We will continue to make sure our internal combustion engines will get more and more efficient," Reuss said. GM shares were up more than 4 percent in midday New York trading on positive comments from Rod Lache, auto analyst at Deutsche Bank. Automakers, including electric vehicle market leader Tesla, lose money on electric cars because battery costs are still higher than comparable internal combustion engines. The company offered sneak peeks of three EV prototypes: a Buick SUV, a sporty Cadillac wagon and a futuristic pod car wearing a Bolt badge. GM funds its forays into new technology using a river of cash generated by old-technology vehicles popular with its core customer base in the United States heartland. In comparison, Tesla has burned through an estimated $10 billion in cash and has yet to show a full year profit. GM earned more than 90 percent of its $12.5 billion in pretax profits last year in North America, amid robust demand for its lineup of large sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks. The company's profitable operations in China rely on consumer demand for an expanding lineup of gasoline powered SUVs. GM has previously announced plans to make some of its future electric vehicles capable of driving themselves in robot taxi fleets. The company offered sneak peeks of three electric vehicle prototypes: a Buick brand sport utility vehicle, a sporty Cadillac wagon and a futuristic pod car wearing a Bolt badge. GM collaborated with Korean battery maker LG Chem to build the Bolt battery system. Company officials did not say what companies would supply batteries for the larger fleet of vehicles promised by 2023. Fuel-cell vehicles will also play a role in GM's future, the company said.

Hot air balloons caught in high winds drag fullsize SUV

Mon, Jul 20 2015

A sudden storm front whipped up enough wind to send some hot air balloons flying into the air in Wisconsin over the weekend. One ballon proved so energetic that it was able to drag a fullsize SUV across a field and into a stand of tents. The freak accident occurred at Balloonfest in Waterford, Wisconsin. Spectators were horrified as balloons dragged handlers to the ground and launched with terrified pilots clinging to their baskets. Organizers had started packing up the colorful balloons due to ominous storm clouds when the wind kicked up. "Happened just like that; it was crazy," Nathan Fricke, crew member, told Fox 6. Winds were clocked at 40 to 50 miles per hour. A balloon caught in the wind dragged a large SUV (we think a Suburban or Yukon XL) hundreds of feet and into a cluster of tents on the edge of the staging area where balloons were on display for festival goers. Considering that the SUV surely weighs well over 5,000 pounds, it's lucky that no one was injured in the incident. News Source: Fox6Now Weird Car News Chevrolet GM GMC SUV

Nissan Leaf keeps plug-in vehicle sales crown for 6th straight month

Thu, May 1 2014

And Nissan makes it 14 in a row. For the 14th straight month, the all-electric Leaf has had "record sales," according to Nissan's marketing team. What that means is that for that particular month (in this case, April) no matter what year you look at, the car sold more than it ever did before. For April 2014, the 2,088 Leafs sold represents a 7.8-percent increase from 2013. Nissan's director of EV sales and marketing, Toby Perry, said in a statement that the "new market" of Cincinnati made the top 25 list for Leaf sales areas in April, so the car's popularity continues to ebb and flow across the US. Over at Chevy, the Volt sold 1,548 units in April, reaching a year-to-date total of 5,154. The Leaf is outpacing that with 7,272 YTD sales. In 2013, the Volt outsold the Leaf by about 500 vehicles, but Leaf sales are up 33 percent year-over-year while Volt is down 7.1 percent. The Leaf has also outsold the Volt for six straight months. But we're excited for every eco-car sale, and that's why we'll have our monthly detailed write-up of the rest of the plug-ins, hybrids and diesel vehicles available soon. Until then, discuss.
