1995 Chevrolet K3500 for sale:

I bought this truck about 3 years ago and it sat for about a year before I got to it. It wasn't in great shape then but I needed something to pull a 5th wheel and it was affordable or so I thought.

Two years ago I put in a new long block engine, all new hoses, injection pump, lines, injectors, glow plugs, upgrade 130 GPM water pump and the upgrade duramax dual t-stat and assembly and fan, new alternator, new vac pump, sensors, turbo and so much more. In the last 8 months I have replaced the brake pads, shoes, rotors, drums, lines and hoses, calipers, wheel cylinders, hubs, front axles, all ball joints, upper control arms, all tie rod ends, stabilizer strut, shocks, 4x4 shaft, and had the rear end gone through with yolk replaced. A few months ago I put on a different bed that I found in Georgia which was in mint condition and I had it painted by a paint shop. I had custom made battery cables as well as glow plug harness at time I put engine in. I have replaced the locks, dampers in the heat/cool system, all the actuators, the heating/cooling control center. I replaced all u-joints in the past 3 months and they replaced the rear bearings and seals also when they did the rear end. I had the transmission checked out and had them do a filter and flush at GM garage about a year ago. I also put on a 4" exhaust and a K&N air intake about a year ago. Front fenders I put on last year. Not the truck color as I was going to change the color when I restored the rest of it but didn't like that color when it was on. Has a blue ray starter on it and life time alt. paperwork in in glove box for warranties. Changed tires and wheels 4 months ago so in great shape. Truck comes with tool box and 5th wheel hitch as shown. RV does not come with it. Also has a new radiator 6 months ago.

I have replaced about everything on this truck that can be changed out except the tranny, power steering, air conditioner, and front dif. and I spared no expense doing it either. I was going to complete the restoration this winter when I was on layoff however I bought a new 5th wheel three months ago and pulled it from Florida to North Carolina and it didn't pull it very well. Really cut down speed on hills so I parked it in the RV park we often stay at for long terms and went back to hotels for the past few months. I left Penn last week to head back to NC and between Richmond VA and Raleigh it shut down like I turned the key off. I pulled over and started right back up, went another 80 miles and it did it again. First time in two years I got an SES light. Well, made it to Raleigh although it was dying about every 10 to 15 miles. It would start right back up so I changed the PMD when I got home, and then tested it and was the same. I pulled the SES Codes and told me it was either the CPS (crankshaft position sensor) or the IP (Injection Pump). I don't know what one it is, could be one or the other or both? I just don't know and since it wont pull my new RV, I am just going to sell it. I just don't have time to mess with it since it wont pull my RV and I have to buy a bigger truck so my plans to wrap it up this winter has ended. Now this pulled my 30' unit just fine for two years but my new unit is 38' and much heavier so, its just not big enough for that 5th wheel.

I have done by very best to describe this truck. I have babied it, gave it a ton of love, but its time we part! This truck starts immediately, have had no issues, I did put a block heater in it (the good one) for the block but have never used it. Has never fell below 30 degrees where I have been in the winter so never used it. I also put in new LED tail lights, new grill with smoke lights in it about a year ago. I put over 15 grand in this truck in past two years and have it listed locally at the rv park where I am parked so basically the first 5 grand takes it. I wont take less then 5 grand for it or I will part it out. The current engine in it has just over 70,000 miles on it and the long block alone was 5500.00 bare.

Please ask questions before bidding. I give no warranties or promises with this truck but that the above it complete and true. I had the oil cooler lines replaced a little while back along with the oil cooler and I did see a small drip recently so he may have nicked the oil line connector when he installed the new ones. Not sure as didn't climb under and just had an oil change so may have been from that. I have used the 4 x4 twice just to check to see if worked and it does. I don't have any reason to use the 4x4 or haven't anyway. Truck is located in Moncure NC which is just outside of Raleigh. I am traveling but will come back for a serious buyer. I have it hooked up to my RV right now in case park owner needs to move it. The AC works well and I put a new gas tank in it also and lines about 10 months ago too. I am sure there is something I have missed that I added to this truck as I have done so much to it. I love the truck except I just cant see putting more time and cash in it to have sitting around when it wont work for me.

Please done hesitate to ask any questions. If you don't mind to do some work here or there this would be a great truck. The interior is original and not perfect either but not too bad, just average for an old truck. Heck, cant be to much else to replace in the future as I replaced about all of it already. I have clear title ready to go. I will have to remove tags at time of sale as NC requires them to be returned.

Surprise! GM putting aluminum in next-gen pickups

Wed, Aug 5 2015

Last month, General Motors launched a series of ads touting the benefits of steel over aluminum – specifically, with regard to the Chevy Silverado versus the Ford F-150. (Kind of. We're not sure what a grizzly bear has to do with anything.) We took issue with the ads, with editor in chief Mike Austin saying they "reek of insecurity, and distract from the Silverado's strengths that could be used for positive advertising." But what bothers us more, is that yet another report surfaced claiming anti-aluminum GM will indeed use the weight-saving material in its next-generation fullsize trucks. On Tuesday, GM announced a $877-million investment for its truck plant in Flint, MI. But Reuters says that huge overhaul is because the trucks will use "substantially different equipment than the tools GM uses today." The report specifically states, "People familiar with the company's plans say GM's next-generation pickups and SUVs will make use of various materials, including aluminum and lightweight steel, to shed weight and gain fuel efficiency to meet tougher federal standards." The Silverado already uses a few aluminum components in the engine and hood, and if more widespread use will help GM build its best fullsize trucks ever, then that's great. Honestly, we have no reason to doubt that aluminum will be used in the next Silverado and GMC Sierra. We just hope GM remembers that nothing is ever truly deleted from the bowels of the Internet when it launches the subsequent "look how great aluminum is!" campaign. Next-gen Chevy Volt gets Corvette looks, adjustable regen levels

Sat, Dec 20 2014

The hood may say "full speed ahead." The regenerative braking system says "slow down a bit." One person's automotive improvements is another's identity crisis, all in a day's work analyzing the new Chevrolet Volt. The next-generation version of General Motors' first extended-range plug in will include design touches taken from to the new Chevrolet Corvette, GM's iconic sports car. Hexagonal taillights and a "taut" hood will be part of the new package, Automotive News says, citing General Motors design chief Ed Wilbur. But does that mean the Volt is shedding any of its green-car cred? Not at all, if one considers that the Volt will also let the driver adjust the degree of regenerative braking using steering-wheel paddles to dial up and recapture as much energy as possible and engage in "one-pedal" driving or turn it down for easier coasting. Check out the 55-second video below featuring GM executives Mark Reuss and Andrew Farah trying out the Volt's new regenerative-braking system that was first used on the Cadillac ELR. GM will have more details for us when it unveils the 2016 Chevy Volt at the North American Auto Show in Detroit next month. The new version is said to have a larger battery, a longer all-electric driving range and more power, but Chevy's been fairly mum on those sorts of performance details so far. Artist imagines eerie world where cars have no wheels

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

The wheel ranks right up there with the telescope and four-slice toaster in the pantheon of inventions that have moved humankind forward. But what if a circle in three dimensions had never occurred to anyone, and we all had just moved on without it? Perhaps we'd be driving around in Lucas Motors Landspeeders with anti-gravity engines. Or maybe we'd have the same cars we do today, just without wheels.
That's the thought experiment that seems to have led French photographer Renaud Marion to create his six-image series called Air Drive. The shots depict cars throughout many eras of motoring that look normal except for one thing: they have no wheels. The models used include a Jaguar XK120, Cadillac DeVille (shown above), Chevrolet El Camino and Camaro, and Mercedes-Benz SL and 300 roadsters.
Perhaps one day when our future becomes our past, you'll be able to walk the street and see with your own eyes the rust and patina of age on our nation's fleet of floating cars. Until then, Monsieur Marion's photographs will have to do.
