What you see here is a 1997 Chevrolet C1500 2WD Crew Cab short box pick up. Yes, a 1500 crew cab! In the mid-late 90's, Chevrolet sent a handful of regular cab 2WD and 4WD 1500's to Centurion Conversions to have the chassis's stretched and a crew cab put in place of the regular cab. These trucks are very rare and most do not know about them. My wife and I stumbled upon this one in Texas a few years ago and began doing some research on it. We've found that as few as 27 trucks were done by Centurion Conversions in 1997, and some of those were 4WD, making it even more rare. We have found some others on the internet, but not a lot. The truck has 184k miles and still runs strong. It shifts well and doesn't burn oil. It's got a 5.7 liter Vortec 350 and automatic trans. It's lowered with 20" Boss wheels wrapped with almost new 295/40/20's in the rear and 275/45/20's in the front. The interior is gray cloth and in good condition. Power windows, locks, steering, brakes, etc. Has the split bench seat in the front and a ton of room in the back! The truck was a turquois green when we got it, but is now a 2000 Buell Motorcycle purple pearl. (I have the paint code and another gallon of the same paint to go with the truck). I shaved the third brake light, the factory right fender antenna, and welded in a rollpan. It's got a steel cowl induction hood, smooth front bumper, and body color grille and mirrors. This thing gets looks left and right going down the road. All body and paintwork was done last summer. It was completely taken apart, and done right. Absolutely beautiful truck that will most definitely turn heads. The truck is for sale locally and available to come take a look and drive. I will ship if necessary at the buyer's expense and set up with a transport company. Please feel free to email anytime with any questions or concerns. Thanx for looking!

Fri, Jan 14 2022This episode of the Autoblog Podcast features Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore and Associate Editor Byron Hurd. They kick off with an overview of the 2022 North American Car, Truck and Utility of the Year award winners (spoiler: Ford did well). After that, they talk about GM's electric pickup strategy and whether a premium electric pickup from Cadillac makes sense. Then, they pivot to Mitsubishi and the future of the Ralliart nameplate. Will we ever get a fun, inexpensive enthusiast car from the Japanese automaker again? Then it's on to what Byron's had in the driveway for the past couple weeks, including a 2022 Chevy Corvette and a 2022 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 Xtreme Recon. Plus, he talks about putting some new snow tires on his personal Jeep Wrangler for evaluation in Michigan winter. Send us your questions for the Mailbag and Spend My Money at: Podcast@Autoblog.com. Chevrolet planning low-cost Corvette under Stingray?
Wed, 27 Feb 2013If you're burnt out on musings about the Chevrolet Corvette, you'll want to go ahead and skip this post. Motor Trend reports General Motors is hard at work on a low-cost version of the seventh-generation sports car for 2015. Rumored to be called the Corvette Coupe, the car will forgo the Stingray and skip the 450-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine in favor of a 5.3-liter V8 with under 400 ponies. If you're keeping track, that's a shade of the same engine found behind the headlights of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
The report also suggests the Coupe will receive a number of aesthetic tweaks to separate it from the Stingray, including different front and rear fascias as well as new front fenders and a rear diffuser. Motor Trend says the point of all this is to cut the car's price tag, which means we may see a Corvette on showroom floors for less than $50,000 if this car comes to fruition.
GM says hybrid Corvette no laughing matter [w/poll]
Fri, 30 Aug 2013When Mark Reuss was in LA recently, he sat down to have a few words with the scribes at the Los Angeles Times. When the issue of a hybrid Corvette came up, Reuss answered with "Don't laugh." The General Motors president is a complete fan of the possibility, calling it "attractive" and "really fun," believing it would improve GM expertise and that "people would love it."
Naturally, the president being supportive of an idea doesn't give indication that a hybrid Corvette is on the way. However, with supercars like the Porsche 918 Spyder and Ferrari LaFerrari giving hybrid tech a solid, if remote, place in the performance car world, the inexorable trickle-down of technology means we shouldn't be surprised if and when it does happen.
And now that we have that non-negative half-answer to a speculative question, it would be irresponsible for us not to commence rumormilling for the C8 Corvette. Taking Reuss at his word, the C8 will obviously be a hybrid with all-wheel-drive - the left side wheels driven with electric motors, the right side with the mid-mounted, four-cylinder diesel engine. With coefficient of drag of just .16, figure on a 0-to-60 mile-per-hour time of under 2 seconds and an all-electric range of something like 30 miles at top speed. Don't forget, folks, you read it here first.
