1965 Buick Riviera Base Hardtop 2-door 6.6l on 2040-cars
Hinckley, Ohio, United States
|
Listed for auction is a 1965 Buick Riviera running project.I bought this car with another and it needs a new home.It runs, drives and stops but is not quite ready for the road. The engine is not numbers matching but starts right up and doesn't seem to miss a beat. The previous owner said that it had been rebuilt but probably years ago.I did notice it has a 1964 carb on it and is missing the air cleaner. The car came with a/c but is not working and missing some components. It has BR switch pitch transmission that seems to work just fine but I have only gone up and down the driveway. The rear is a 3.23 open gear. When I brought the car home it had the gas tank in the trunk that had been cleaned out and painted. That has been re-installed and fuel line connected. The fuel gauge works. The previous owner put mechanical gauges in and they work properly. This car was his daily driver for years until about 2 or 3 years ago.Exhaust has mufflers with turn outs and actually sounds nice without being obnoxious.
Brakes work well but the pedal doesn't have the feel of vacuum assist. The funny thing is that you don't have to push that hard to stop? The interior will send you back to the swinging' 70's with it's crushed velvet covers. This is the deluxe interior with power seat, which works and power windows. The seats are worn in spots but comfortable as can be.The headliner is the same material.I checked the power windows and the driver and passenger door windows work but both quarter windows will need lubrication.I could see each trying to work but didn't want to damage motors. The wood is is pretty nice shape. All glass looks very nice, very nice windshield.Tires look pretty good. The car will need some body work. The floors are solid with one hole in the passenger front on top of body brace, can't be seen from underneath. The trunk floor is nice and solid. The hood is better than most and front leading edge looks pretty good.Driver fender solid. Passenger fender has issue down low behind wheel well opening.Door skins good condition.Around back window very good.Nice straight top.The quarter panels are the worst of it,see pictures, but I have a friend that has driver and passenger complete quarter panels if needed for additional price,I can give you his contact information, or just repair. The car has one custom touch that was done by last owner. The trunk has been converted to open to the side.It was not finished and can be converted back the way it was. Most all the trim is with the car.The cathedral moldings have damage. The chrome on the bumpers has some pealing and pitting. The chrome on the wheels is pretty decent with the driver side front being the worst. The clams don't work and the motor and some of the linkage is missing.Headlights do come on but clams will need wired open. The rear brake lights and turn signals will need hooked up.I am sure there will be other wiring issues to wring out. To sum it up this car literally could be road worthy within a few days work.I realize that this is a project and the reserve is very reasonable.Any questions feel free to ask. Transportation is buyers responsibility. The car must be picked up within 14 days end of auction. |

2018 Buick Regal TourX First Drive Review | Pop the champagne, it's another wagon!
Tue, Jan 30 2018As a newborn member of an endangered species, we should probably pop open the Dom to fete the arrival of the 2018 Buick Regal TourX. It's a wagon, after all, and if there's anything we automotive writers have been clamoring for is more wagons. "Forget those SUVs," we've implored. "This wagon over here is better! Just as much cargo space, better to drive! And have you seen it in brown?" Well, it seems like our collective proselytizing is starting to pay off, or perhaps far more likely, consumer tastes are shifting a bit to appreciate the wagon. Sure, they need to be lifted a bit and sport plastic fender flares to add a wee bit of SUV-ish flavor, but who the hell cares? Beggars, choosers, etc. It's a wagon, and we should be happy it's here. And we are, the Regal TourX is a pretty good one that thankfully offers more than just its mere existence. It especially delivers on the space front, which is refreshing since most of today's wagons are not as cargo friendly as the collective "we" would like to admit. An Audi Q5 regrettably does have more cargo space than an Audi A4 Allroad. Yet, the TourX has more than both – considerably more in fact, coming in at a certifiably huge 73.5 cubic feet of maximum space. The difference is palpable between it and the 53.5-cubic-foot Allroad, which Buick considers the TourX's closest competitor. As the below video (somewhat) demonstrates, I was able to cram 12 Patagonia duffle bags into the Allroad, filling up most of the cabin. The same amount in the TourX left tons of residual space, you could still see out the back and loading it all in didn't require a degree in Advanced Tetris. There's also a far more useful amount of space with the back seat raised (32.7 vs. 24.2). That area is especially lengthy, and with the large rear quarter windows and reasonably square roofline, it should be a good choice for dog owners. There's no built-in dog net behind the back seat as you'll find in the Allroad and BMW 3 Series wagon (you'd have to go the aftermarket route), but your four-legged buddy should at least appreciate the lower liftover/jump-aboard height. Which brings us to the next wagon benefit: the lower roof height. According to Buick's marketing folks, people who buy off-roadish wagons like the Regal TourX are far more likely to actually live the outdoorsy active lifestyles the owners of SUVs usually only envision for themselves.
2021 Buick Encore sheds top two trims, offer only Base and Preferred
Fri, Aug 28 2020A few days ago, CarsDirect reported that the 2021 Buick Encore would prune its top two trims, the Sport Touring and Essence variants. Paring those two trims would leave the Base and the Preferred, creating larger price and amenities differences between the stalwart Encore and the new, larger, nicer Encore GX. It turns out the change has already gone into effect for the 2020 model year, as shown in Encore's Build & Price page at the brand's web site. Now the only trims available are the 1SV and Preferred. The prices for these trims won't change for next year, either. The Encore will start at $24,195 after a $995 destination charge, and now topping out at $26,215 for the all-wheel drive Preferred model. Previously, the Essence AWD established the top of the hill at $31,795. The move eliminates almost all of the MSRP overlap with the Encore GX, which ranges from $25,195 to $31,595. There will be less feature overlap, too. The now-dead Encore trims opened the door to proper luxury amenities like LED headlights, leather seats, dual-zone climate control, and an auto dimming rear-view mirror. The amenities available on the Preferred are limited to floor mats and accessories, save for the $495 Safety Package that adds Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Side Blind Zone Alert, and the $300 Remote Start. The Encore GX comes in three trims, Preferred, Select, and Essence, and "Leather-appointed seating" doesn't appear until the top-dollar Essence trim for $29,495 in FWD fettle. The closest the Encore and Encore GX will get to one another is in engine output. The smaller crossover comes only with a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. The Encore GX offers two engines depending on powertrain. A 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder with 137 hp and 166 lb-ft comes solely with front-wheel drive, and a 1.3-liter turbocharged three-cylinder with 155 hp and 174 lb-ft is available with either front- or all-wheel drive. Buick Electra E4 and E4 GS Ultium-based EVs introduced in China
Wed, Jun 21 2023China leads the way with Buick's revival, this month seeing the Trishield brand introduce another Ultium-based EV in two flavors for the Asian market. First comes the Electra E4, the crossover-coupe version of the Electra E5 that emerged from hiding in March. We know the formula — a little lower, a little shorter, a littler wider than the traditional sibling, with a steeper slope in the roof and a much faster backlight. The E4 wears a different front fascia design and touts subtle shifts like a single DRL instead of the dual DRLs on the E5. It goes a bit further with dual spoilers out back, a design trend found on decadent crossovers like the Aston Martin DBX and Genesis GV70 Coupe Concept. The E4 is touch larger than our Buick Envision, the Chinese Electra about 7 inches longer, an inch wider, and 2.4 inches lower than the Envision, on a wheelbase 4 inches longer. The interiors hew to the design shown in the E5, with a bit more flash added. The same EYEMAX 30-inch, 6K curved screen forms the heart of the Buick Virtual Cockpit. The carmaker says front passengers get 39.9 inches of headroom in the E4, and there is "customer-pleasing headroom and knee space for second-row passengers," everyone bathed in light from the 12.9-square-foot low-radiation panoramic roof. It has 28 bins and cubbies for storage and 15.6 cubic feet of cargo room. Underneath the skin, the entry-level powertrain has a 65-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery powering a motor on the front axle making 241 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque. Based on China's test cycle, range is estimated at up to 329 miles. For now, the Electra E4 is only available with front-wheel drive.  Then there's the E4 GS, the first EV to merit Buick's Gran Sport designation. It's distinguished from the regular E4 with tweaks like a black diamond grille, black mirror caps, Night Bronze accents outside and in, 20-inch wheels hiding six-piston Brembo brakes on the front rotors, and illuminated sills. The GS starts with the same FWD drivetrain as the plain E4, but adds an AWD trim as well that's powered by a larger 79.7-kWh battery and makes 283 hp and 343 lb-ft. The front-driver can hit 62 miles per hour in 7.6 seconds. The AWD model cuts that sprint time to 6.2 seconds and increases range to an estimated 385 miles. Top speed for both drivetrains is 112 miles per hour.
