Early 60s Volkswagen 11 Window Transporter Micro Bus Van Project Rare Find on 2040-cars

You are looking at a rare find.  An early '60s Volkswagen Eleven Window Microbus.  It was purchased in package deal, and the farmer who's grove it was pulled out of is fairly sure he has the titles, but is still looking for them.  If located, a title will be provided with the vehicle, otherwise it will be sold with a bill-of-sale only.  I found what I believe to be the VIN number behind the front seat on the passenger side which has a plate on the steel divider panel.  The number reads 22134217811184579.  There may be some other numbers located in the engine compartments, but both vans are parked back-to-back on my trailer with no real way to get them loaded back up if I were to take them off.  I was hoping to leave them on the trailer until sold, then transfer them over onto the buyers' trailer at that time, or else possibly deliver each one individually.  They were gently picked up with a forklift without damage, and set onto my trailer at the location we picked them up from.  I don't have a fork-lift myself, but can carefully drag them off the trailer.  This one is sitting on rims, and steers, but I don't know if it rolls.

There are some dents on the roof from tree limbs in the grove it's been sitting in for the last 40 years.  I'm told they sell floor pans, rocker panels, and everything else that needs replacement due to rust on the aftermarket for these busses.  As you can see in the pictures, the main 2 structural rails that run the length of the vehicle are still solid despite sitting in the dirt for years.  The outer body mounts are rough, as are a lot of other aspects of the van, but I've seen people pull rougher busses than these out of the bottom of a lake to restore.  At one time, they were totally worthless, and when people were finished driving them, they typically just junked them or abandoned them by the side of the road.  Those days are long gone, and finding a 11 window in a grove like this is completely unheard of anymore!  This is an ambitious project, but they are extremely collectible & valuable, so it's well worth restoring.  After pulling it out of the grove & getting it home, I power-washed all the moss & caked on dirt off of it to really expose everything.  It was still wet in the pictures, so it perhaps looks a little worse than it is, but you get a realistic idea of the condition it's in.

The original taillights are still there, and unbroken.  There's no engine, but the transaxle is still in there.  I don't have a way to know if it's good.  If you're looking for a VW Bus project, and don't have the dough to fork out for an already restored one... here's a good start on a very desireable body style.  If you wanted to make it into a 19 window clone, you can buy those little curved roof-glass panels, and install them, as well as sliding ragtops to really make it neat!

By bidding on this vehicle, you acknowledge that it is being sold As Is with no warranty.  I require a $250 security deposit within 3 days of auction's end, and remainder of balance to be paid for in full with cash in person.  If having it shipped, a cashier's check, money order or bank wire-transfer within 10 days of auction's end is acceptable, and I will assist with loading.  If you have any other questions, I can be reached afternoons/evenings at (641) 512-5229, or message me through eBay.

Thanks for looking!

VW agrees to halt next-gen rally car development to help others stay in WRC

Sat, 22 Jun 2013

Volkswagen has petitioned the FIA to hold on to the current specifications for cars in the World Rally Championship, according to Autosport.com. The move is evidently an effort to keep as many competitors in the sport as possible, despite the fact that using the current spec racers may actually hurt Volkswagen's chances at winning. The three factory teams currently competing in the WRC are at the end of a three-year homologation cycle at the end of 2013, and new cars are expected to bow next year. But developing new racers could cost as much as $4.7 million.
That price tag would put M-Sport (which fields Ford racers) out of the WRC game for 2014 and would put Citroën participation in question as well. VW has already begun work on the next iteration of its Polo R WRC, and the hatch has nabbed four wins in six rounds this season. Now it appears that car won't bow until at least 2015. The FIA has officially agreed to freeze homologation of new WRC cars until the end of next season.

Volkswagen Golf Wagon leaked ahead of official unveiling

Sat, 02 Mar 2013

Wagons ho! These three images of the upcoming Volkswagen Golf Wagon have leaked online ahead of the car's official debut, which may very well be at the Geneva Motor Show. Looking over the photos doesn't really bring any surprises - after all, this is a VW Golf with a wagon rear end grafted on, or basically what we expect next Jetta SportWagen will be.
We can only share these three images at this time, but fret not, folks. There's little doubt that all the details and images will be flowing from Volkswagen in short order. In the meantime, click on the images above to view them in high resolution.

Bentley considering diesel engine for new SUV

Wed, 05 Mar 2014

Turns out, in case you didn't know, the rich are just like regular people. They too are concerned about the environment, even when tooling around town in their super-luxurious Bentleys. So the automaker is weighing the idea of offering a diesel engine in its SUV offering, which could help satisfy customers' demands for more fuel-efficient engines.
Chairman and CEO Wolfgang Schreiber told Autoblog in a roundtable interview at the Geneva Auto Show that the automaker is researching whether or not a diesel engine makes sense for the brand. Bentley, owned by the Volkswagen Group, could in theory use a diesel engine from anywhere in the Volkswagen Group family. We at Autoblog have hopes they'll revive the V10 TDI used in the VW Touareg until 2010, but ever-stricter emissions laws would likely make that problematic.
But rich people aren't so much like us that they'll be worried about petty things like pricing. Schreiber admitted the diesel engine could be a $15,000 option, which he said customers would probably find "acceptable." Given that the cheapest Bentley today starts at $177,000, typical customers probably won't be diddling around worrying about an extra 15 grand.
