1988 Volkswagan 7-passenger Vanagon GL

NO RESERVE AUCTION!

Great running Vanagon with the 2.1 litre engine, cold factory A/C, clean non-smoking interior. This Vanagon was just serviced, oil changed, radiator flushed and filled with correct VW anti-freeze, recent Bosch starter.  Great sounding AM/FM/CD/iPod connection stereo and 4-speakers.  Good tires w/plenty of tread an no dry rot.  This VW runs and drives great, just drove it to Orlando, Miami and back the other day, 550-miles total. 19.1 mpg going 75-78mph the whole way. Obviously if you drive under 70mph you should break that 20+ mpg mark no problem.  Also did another 125-mile round trip in the rain the other day, ran great w/the A/C on all the way and with stop and go traffic due to bad weather on the interstate.  The VW didn't skip a beat.

Comes with original VW Vanagon glove box book.  Front captains chairs have adjustable arm rests for comfort.  All seat belts for rear passengers in place.  All dome lights work front and back.  One key locks all doors. Handle on sliding door has partly broken, but still opens with ease.  Original paint on top, nose and tailgate is sun burned/faded, but it is original.  On the upside the interior is very nice and not sun faded or dry rotted as it came from NC originally.  No rips in the seats.  If the winning bidder would like this VW painted, we can take care of that, but it's just not that bad that you can't enjoy it right now.  It's only original once and we didn't want to hide anything. Very minimal rust, no rust through, clean underbody and motor.  Outer drivers side rear bumper section has minor damage.  We have a good used original VW piece to replace the cracked corner piece of the rear bumper available to the winning bidder for $145 if they should want it.  Passenger side power mirror not working, drivers side is. Washer fluid and wipers working front and back. The headlights lit up the darkness of Alligator Alley across the Florida Everglades beautifully on my drive, and the Bosch fog lights work great with low beams keeping the roads well lit at night.  That's confidence in your VW when you make that drive through the middle of the state after midnight!

The VW is sold AS IS here in Sarasota Florida.  It runs and drives very well, but is nearly 30-years old so please keep that in mind.  We're an honest shop with a great reputation and the occasional VW to sell.  Please feel free to ask questions or stop by and see the VW in person if you're in the area!  We're happy to talk shop with you.

Editors' Picks May 2021 | BMW M3, Toyota Camry and some hot Golfs

Thu, Jun 3 2021

We awarded Editors’ Picks status to a number of performance cars this month, but a couple more regular sedans won out, too. April saw us recognize four models, but that increases to six for May. As the weather warms up here in Michigan, we tend to get into the sports cars that we missed driving all winter, resulting in a sports car-heavy month of testing. That explains why the list this month is so heavy on sports cars and hot hatches. In case you missed our previous couple Editors' Picks posts, hereÂ’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get EditorsÂ’ Pick status. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. The list that youÂ’ll find below consists of every car we rated in May that earned the honor of being an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2021 Toyota Camry 2021 Toyota Camry XSE Hybrid View 22 Photos Quick take: The Toyota Camry retains its place as one of the best midsize sedans you can buy. It comes in a variety of trims and powertrains, from the potent TRD model to the fuel-sipping hybrid. It's an attractive, functional and well-rounded car offering value and function. Score: 8.5 What it competes with: Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, Kia K5, Nissan Altima, Mazda6, Subaru Legacy, VW Passat, Chevy Malibu Pros: Highly versatile, efficient hybrid, fun-to-drive sport models Cons: Average infotainment, polarizing exterior, slow base four-cylinder From the editors: Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore — “The Camry is one of the standard bearers in the midsize segment. With many companies abandoning this area, the ones that remain — like Toyota — do it well. Long a bastion of boring design and sleepy driving dynamics, the Camry is now legitimately attractive and offers a range of powertrains. It's a solid entry and along with the Honda Accord, makes the case for midsize sedans to exist." Europeans get first crack at new Golf Variant wagon

Mon, 04 Mar 2013

Just last week, when we brought you news of a new Volkswagen Golf variant out and testing in Europe, we had no idea we were being so literal with out description. For it seems that VW has every intention of calling its new Golf wagon, making its Geneva debut, the "Golf Variant."
Odd/interesting sobriquets taken as read then, there's a lot to like about this new small wagon from VW. The Variant will shed some 232 pounds in this generation, and will come to market with two efficient TDI engines. Volkswagen isn't giving us displacement figures for either yet, but we're told the diesels will come with outputs of 110 and 150 horsepower. The 110-hp TDI BlueMotion Varient will be good for a whopping 71.3 miles per gallon on the European cycle, when mated to the six-speed manual transmission.
The German automaker has brought along an all-wheel-drive 4Motion version of the Gold Variant to bow in Geneva, as well, and a natural gas-burning TGI BlueMotion is said to be "in the pipeline."

Recharge Wrap-up: VW CEO mulls battery factory, voters approve $201B in transportation funding

Mon, Nov 21 2016

Volkswagen Group CEO Matthias Muller says that it would "make sense" for the automaker to begin producing its own batteries. As the company moves toward electrification, Muller says it would be a smart move to build a battery factory. "If more than a quarter of our cars are to be electronic vehicles in the foreseeable future then we are going to need approximately 3 million batteries a year," he says. Volkswagen has agreed to cut 30,000 jobs in its restructuring, while committing to creating 9,000 jobs in Germany through battery manufacturing and mobility services. Earlier this month, voters in 22 states approved ballot measures adding up to $201 billion in funding for transportation projects, according to the American Road & Transportation Builders Association. California passed 15 transportation measures, including one in Los Angeles worth $120 billion for roads, bridges, and transit. The state of Washington secured $54 billion for light rail and buses. Atlanta approved about $4 billion for road and transit projects. Illinois and New Jersey passed measures to prevent the diversion of transportation user fee revenue to other industries. A Delaware federal judge ordered the DOE to give the documents – which concern a presentation by Fisker to the DOE in which it falsely claimed to meet milestones set forth in a government loan – to lawyers in a case in which investors claim Fisker lied to them about financial troubles. While the DOE has given over documents already, they were incomplete and heavily redacted. "I understand that such disclosures may have a negative impact on future DOE analyses," says US District Judge Sue Robinson. "but conclude nonetheless that under the circumstances at bar – the public money at stake, the Congressional hearings, and the fact that Fisker Automotive is now a defunct company – the balance of interests favors plaintiffs."
