1987 Westy Pop-top Camper on 2040-cars
Chandler, Arizona, United States

This 1987 VW Vanagon Westfalia is a gem. You will be
hard pressed to find another one as clean and well cared-for. It has
spent nearly all its life here in Arizona which accounts for it being
completely rust-free. Every facet of the vehicle has been meticulously
maintained inside and out and EVERYTHING works exactly the way it was
designed to. The doors and hatch close quietly and effortlessly. The
brand new Walker Quietflow muffler makes it purr like a kitten. Privacy
tint and 360° curtains provide privacy and security. The A/C was
converted to R134a May 2013. All glass is chip/crack-free and crystal
clear. I am a professional detailer so you can rest assured I spared no
effort nor expense in the regular maintenance as well as its
preparation-for-sale of this vehicle. There are no rips, tears or snags
anywhere on any cloth or vinyl surface. All of the interior trim as well
as the carpets are clean and sharp. The engine and transmission are
strong and healthy. I travel on the freeway at 75+ MPH without
hesitation and still have 1/3 of the pedal left. The brakes are about
80% life left and the Sumitomo tires are at about 30% wear. Aside from
the stereo and speakers, everything inside is original and still looks
crisp and new. Outside, I have taken the finish to a completely new
level of shiny. Its finish is completely swirl-free and you can count
the door dings and/or tiny chips literally on one hand. All of the seals
and gaskets have been revitalized and moisturized eliminating any black
transfer to you or cloths as well as keeping them healthy and
crack-free. The fiberglass on the pop-top has been de-oxidized and
treated to protect it from the elements as well as reduce the rate of
oxidation. There are no cracks in any of the trim plastic (i.e., the
dash, etc) nor are there any scratches, mars, chips, etc., in any of the
cabinets and panels inside.
It's never been in an accident of any kind and overall, the van looks like it was just taken out of a time capsule, it's that clean. No dents, scratches or basically anything that could/would remotely detract from its excellent condition. It comes with a clean, clear title and has a clean Carfax as well. Taxpayers wasted $51 million on VW diesel credits
Wed, Sep 23 2015The scope of Volkswagen's diesel emission rules evasion continues to widen with 11 million vehicles now potentially affected around the world, and the company is setting aside over $7 billion to start paying for it all. However, the costs could go even deeper. In a piece that's well worth a read, an analysis by The LA Times finds that the government distributed as much as $51 million in green car subsidies to buyers of these models in 2009 – the first year of the dishonest engine management software. The short-term effects of this scandal on VW are already quite dire. On September 21, the company's stock fell over 20 percent at one point on the German exchange, ended down 17.8 percent that day, and have continued to tank. In addition, the Environmental Protection Agency has forced a stop-sale on 2015 and 2016 diesel models with the 2.0 TDI, and the agency has begun analyzing the 3.0-liter V6 TDI in the Audi A6, A7, A8, Q5, Q7, and Porsche Cayenne to look for similar issues. The Justice Department has also started a criminal investigation, and the automaker has instituted its own external probe, as well. The emissions irregularities were first discovered by researchers at West Virginia University and the International Council on Clean Transportation. The EPA and California Air Resources Board were eventually made aware and launched their own investigations.
VW could fight Uber Black with Porsche and Audi vehicles
Fri, Jun 3 2016Last week, the Volkswagen group dumped $300 million into Gett, a taxi hailing-cum-ride sharing app that's big outside of the US. Now, the company has revealed that it's pondering a rival to Uber Black by offering private drivers access to its higher-end vehicles. Details are scarce since it's a single line reference in a very long press release, but VW says that it's looking at a "special chauffeur service" that features "premium brands, such as Audi and Porsche." What that looks like in reality is anyone's guess, although the idea of getting ferried around in an Audi RS 7 does have some appeal. The deal with Gett will concentrate on getting Volkswagen cars into the hands of Gett's drivers with the promise of juicy discounts. For instance, the firm will offer a special package that'll bundle car insurance and servicing with the purchase price, which can be paid by a would-be operator in installments. It's a similar deal to the one that Uber offers would-be drivers, letting them buy cars from manufacturers like Volkswagen, Ford and Toyota at a discount. Uber, however, also lets prospective cabbies rent their vehicle on a monthly basis, thanks to a deal with Enterprise. Both of which will likely become more muscular now that Uber has a further $3.5 billion in its back pocket. The troubling fact for the auto industry is that people will still need cars, but it's likely that they won't need as many as they do right now. On-demand services and self-driving vehicles are, after all, intended to shuttle around cities like an ersatz taxi-cum-metro system rather than sitting in parking lots. The concepts of ownership that we currently hold dear (and the profits that car companies get from them) are likely to fade away in the next, say, fifty years time. As such, conglomerates like VW will have to reinvent themselves as both manufacturer and transport company in one. But these changes are never easy, especially when the biggest car firms have tons of baggage that slows down their progress. Many are still devoting time and resources to producing thousands of new cars with combustion engines that will be on the roads for years to come. Looming in the shadow, however, is the emissions scandal, with the financial and reputational penalties likely to be felt for years to come. Younger, more nimble rivals without legacy businesses, like Tesla, are working on mass-producing electric cars for mass-market prices.
Winterkorn steps down as CEO of Porsche SE
Mon, Oct 19 2015Martin Winterkorn's departure from all things related to the Volkswagen Group is nearing completion. After having stepped down as chairman of the automaker's executive board nearly a month ago in the wake of the automaker's diesel emissions scandal, he's now leaving the direction of the company's principal shareholder, as well. After VW acquired Porsche (the automaker) several years ago, and in turn was principally acquired by Porsche (the holding company), the latter installed Winterkorn as its chief executive officer in order to cement ties between the parties. He's served as chairman of the executive board (German-speak for CEO) at Porsche Automobil Holding SE ever since, but he's now officially resigned from that position. In his place, the holding company has named Hans Dieter Potsch as its new chief exec. Potsch was also recently named as chairman of the supervisory board of the Volkswagen Group, having served until now as CFO of both VW AG and of Porsche SE. Winterkorn's principal successor at the helm of daily operations at VW is Matthias Muller, formerly CEO of the Porsche auto brand and now CEO of the entire VW group. The development brings Winterkorn's exit closer to completion. However the departing executive still, for the time being, remains at the head of group divisions Audi, Scania, and Truck & Bus GmbH. We don't expect it will be much longer, however, before he formally resigns from those chairmanships as well. October 2015. Porsche Automobil Holding SE, Stuttgart ("Porsche SE"), reached an agreement with Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn that he ceases his function as member and chairman of the executive board of Porsche SE by the end of October 31, 2015. Dr. Wolfgang Porsche, chairman of the supervisory board of Porsche SE, thanked Prof. Dr. Winterkorn for the successful work in previous years: "Prof. Dr. Winterkorn assumed office as chairman of the executive board of Porsche SE in a difficult situation. He played a significant role in transforming our company into a highly professional investment holding. I would like to express my gratitude on behalf of the entire supervisory board." Hans Dieter Potsch, chief financial officer of Porsche SE, was appointed by the supervisory board to succeed Prof. Dr.
