The car currently has 50,200 miles and climbing since it is my daily driver. It does have some factory power train warranty remaining (5 Years 60K).

This winter it was a monster in the snow. Our numerous heavy snowfalls this winter season were barely a burden on it when driving. Summer or winter the car is a blast to drive and easy to control even when roads are slippery. I can't express how fantastic this car is. The interior of the car is super clean and both sets of floor mats are included. The exterior is beautiful as well. There are a few chips at the front from highway driving and two other small defects that could be repaired easily. The engine runs excellently. Great oil pressure when the car has warmed up and temperature has stabilized. Coolant temperature sits where it should per the temperature gauge. Diagnostics have shown only evidence of a very clean, healthy engine. The exhaust tone is fantastic even with the factory cat back (Vehicle will NOT be sold with Invidia q300 exhaust pictured).

I've owned the car since July and it has been fantastic, but I need to make a change for economic reasons. Since July the following maintenance items have been addressed:
-Clutch was replaced with an OEM unit and flywheel was ground September of 2013.
-Gear oil in the transmission was replaced with Subaru Extra S Fluid September of 2013.
-Center differential was replaced under warranty in October of 2013.
-Brake rotors and pads were replaced in October of 2013
-Brake fluid replaced in November of 2013
-Oil has been replaced every 3500 miles with Shell Rotella T6 and WIX oil filters.

Upgrades:
-Turn In Concepts Super Shifter Kit (shifter and all bushings for the linkage) installed by TiC
-Turn In Concepts transmission mount bushing upgrade
-Windows have aftermarket tint professionally installed
-22mm Whiteline Sway Bars front and rear
-Kartboy endlinks front and rear
-Stoptech Street Performance brake pads
-Goodridge braided stainless steel brake lines
-Grimmspeed brake master cylinder brace
-Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires (New April 2013)
-Hella Supertone horns
-LED Interior and Reverse lights
-Badges repainted with a gold field for the silver stars
-Gorilla Off Road Company gravel guards

Audio Upgrades:
- Pioneer x2500BT headunit
- Alpine M500 monochannel Subwoofer amplifier (ready for a sub box in the trunk)
- Alpine 75w x 4 channel amp for the 4 door speakers
- Alpine S600 speakers in all 4 doors
- High quality power and speaker cables
- dynamat installed in all 4 doors to lessen road noise

Winter wheel and tire set up is available for sale as well, but not included in the sale price. Inquire for more details.

There are a few conditions regarding the test drive and sale of the car:
I will be present for all test drives.
If you have not driven a manual you will ride along with me driving, but will not drive the car yourself until you purchase it.
Should you choose to purchase it, we will spend some time at the bank.
You will sign a bill of sale.
You cannot keep my plates.

Junkyard Gem: 1987 Subaru GL-10 4WD station wagon

Wed, Dec 12 2018

Living in Colorado and spending a great deal of time in Denver-area wrecking yards, I see Subaru wagons everywhere. Lots of Subaru wagons. Today's Junkyard Gem, however, is the first GL-10 wagon I've found in such an establishment. I can't find a definitive description of what Subaru buyers in 1987 got with their GL-10 (at the time, the Subaru Leone was sold in the United States as just "The Subaru" with a confusing babel of trim-level codes tacked on). These badges look cool, anyway. This cassette deck would have been considered serious stuff at the time, what with auto-reverse and automatic detection of the prestigious metal tapes that cost twice as much as ordinary cassettes. This car has air conditioning as well, a very rare feature on this generation of Leone. These cars were available with automatic transmissions, but nearly all of the 1980s Leones I find have three pedals. Four-wheel-drive (real four-wheel-drive, including a low-range setting with manual drive selection) was a heavily-hyped Subaru option, not standard equipment, at the time. Under the hood is the boxer-four engine layout we've been seeing in U.S.-market Subarus since all the way back in 1971. This one displaces 1.8 liters and was rated at 90 horsepower. This car's archrival, the Toyota Tercel 4WD wagon, packed a mere 62 horses; prices for ordinary Tercel 4WD and Subaru GL 4WD wagons were similar, but the GL-10 package no doubt pushed the price up well above Tercel levels. These cars weren't anywhere near as reliable as the Tercel 4WD (which, though sluggish, was nearly — but not entirely — impossible to kill) or the Honda Wagovan 4WD, but this one made it to a respectable odometer figure before being retired. 2017 Subaru BRZ gets more power, optional Performance Pack

Fri, May 27 2016

Most of the recent action with Toyobaru sports cars has centered around the Toyota side, which saw the Scion FR-S replaced by the updated and rebranded 2017 Toyota 86 for our market. Now, Subaru's version of the rear-drive coupe is getting a similar set of updates. It gets to keep its name, though. Like its Toyota-badged twin, the BRZ sees some engine updates – changes to the shared 2.0-liter, flat-four's internals are aimed at reducing friction. A new aluminum intake and a redesigned exhaust bump output up from 200 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque to 205 ponies and 156 lb-ft on manual-transmission models. To go along with that, the manual's final-drive ratio has been changed from 4.1:1 to 4.3:1, so there should be an improvement in acceleration. (Incidentally, this must have been Toyota meant when it said the 86 gets different manual gear ratios for 2017.) It's not the turbocharged engine some have been craving, but we can all agree that a little extra output is better than none. Those paying for the automatic transmission are left out, though. The Subaru has also gotten a small set of suspension updates. There are new springs and dampers, a larger rear sway bar, and some adjustments to structural braces to increase rigidity, so nothing too dramatic. Subaru has reprogrammed the stability-control system to allow drivers more freedom, which has led to a showy rebranding of the Sport mode to a new Track setting. A new option is the Performance Package, which includes Brembo brakes with upsized rotors fore and aft, new Sachs-branded shocks, and black 17-inch wheels. The Performance Pack is only available on Limited models with a manual transmission, further strengthening the argument against the auto. The Performance Pack also helps differentiate the Subie from its Toyota pal, as those items aren't available on the 86. There are some subtle aesthetic changes too, similar to those on the 86. (Noticing a pattern?) Subaru restyled the front and rear fascias, and added LED lamps at all four corners. Limited models come with a new 4.2-inch LCD display that sits to the right of the tachometer; in addition to mechanical info like oil temp, water temp, and battery voltage, it can show a G meter, a steering-angle indicator, gas/brake meters, and a stopwatch. The 2017 BRZ Premium and Limited will hit dealers in September. You'll have to wait until winter of 2017 to get your hands on a car equipped with the Performance Pack.

Toyota FT-86 Open Concept leaves us feeling flushed

Wed, 20 Nov 2013

When last we checked in on our topless would-be hero, the Toyota FT-86 convertible had been reportedly placed on "indefinite hold." That was back in early October, not long after Toyota had trotted out the rear-wheel-drive canvasback to Scion dealers as a possible future product carrot if they decided not to turn in their franchises. And yet, we're here at the Tokyo Motor Show, where Toyota has taken the time to at least repaint the FT-86 Open Concept in "Flash Red," if not build a whole other car (the original Geneva showcar was white). It's enough to make our heads spin like a teenager on the verge of a breakup. Will they? Won't they?
At this point, we still don't know any more than you do - the last word we heard out of Toyota was not encouraging, although the story was that the program could still be fast-tracked if management had a change of heart. As the car has never been seen before in Japan, perhaps Toyota is merely extending its domestic audience a courtesy view before it lines this showcar in mothballs, or maybe they're still trying to make a decision on its fate and gauging public reaction on the homefront.
Interestingly, in a new story published today, Automotive News quotes Subaru brand boss Yasuyuki Yoshinaga downplaying the likelihood of a production model, saying flatly "We make the car, so if we don't make it, it can't happen." The executive went on to note, "Our engineering department told me that losing the entire roof requires a complete redesign of the structure. It would need a big change." Given that such a car would probably trade in rather small volumes, that sounds like a significant hurtle.
