1968 Porsche 912 Soft-Window Targa

Chassis No. 12871209               Engine No. 1285708      Transmission No. 1082321

  • Desirable Early SWB 912 SWT Targa
  • Numbers-Matching as per Porsche Certificate of Authenticity
  • Complete with all Books, Supplements, Tools & Accessories
  • Correct Date Coded Wheels 3/68
  • 38 Years of Single family Ownership
  • Service Record File Dating Back to 1976

The 912 is regarded by an increasing faction of Porsche enthusiasts as a very much worthwhile alternative to a more powerful 911. With its lighter 356-style mechanical components and inherently better weight distribution, the 912 is regarded by many as a more balanced driver's car than the 911.

Offered here a very desirable short wheelbase, soft-window Targa in Blue over original Beige leatherette upholstery on correct silver vented wheels and optioned with fog lights, electric fan, bumper horns and RF suppression. The car comes from 38 years of single family ownership out of New York State and is accompanied by the original 1976 Bill of Sale from Glen Porsche-Audi Corp, along with servicing records dating to 1976. Today, the Porsche displays older paintwork over the factory Bahama Yellow, while the interior's upholstery, front/rear compartments and underside remain very original. Additionally, the Targa is complete with ALL books, supplements,  tools and accessories - including: Maintenance Record Booklet, Driver's Manual, Targa Supplement, Emissions Annex, '68/'69 Distributors & Dealers reference, stamped Blaupunkt Warranty Card and User's Manual.

According to the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, the motor and transmission are original to the car. Last registered for road use in 2004 this car will need attention to both the cosmetics and mechanicals as it has been in storage for the last 10 years, the motor turns freely and was in running condition not too long ago. Also of note: there IS rust on this car that will have to be repaired we have pictured it and have priced it accordingly. Nevertheless, this Targa serves as an excellent entry into classic SWB Porsche ownership and offers great potential for someone looking to restore just the right early Porsche whether for show or driver quality.

The 912 Targa's sporty accommodations and peppy engine produce thrilling tours in 4 optional roof configurations, and with only 2,562 early 912 Targas produced in total (according to the 912 Registry), here is a rare opportunity to acquire such an example with strong continuous collectability.

Will Roegge makes 4K art of Jeff Zwart's 911 build and run up Pikes Peak

Sun, 17 Aug 2014

Will Roegge has turned his camera on Jeff Zwart and provided another gem, this time documenting Zwart's run up Pikes Peak and BBI Autosport. Bertim Besha dropped out of high school, then worked his way up to founding his own shop, BBI, that gathers a crew of tuners who are just as fastidious about their work as the customers are about their cars.
They prepped the 991-series Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Turbo, the product of combining a 911 GT2 that was the most powerful car Zwart drove up the mountain with a GT3 Cup that Zwart thought had the best handling. Two TiAL turbos and a lot of fettling make for a 3.8-liter flat-six with 700 horsepower, 700 pound-feet of torque and a 7,800-rpm redline. Zwart drove it to a heartbreaking second place this year, finishing less than 1.2 seconds behind the Time Attack 1 class winner when his car suffered its first mechanical issue of the week.
The first video below covers Besha, BBI and the build, the second is Zwart's run. As if the visuals weren't enough, sit back and enjoy the shrieking of the "Hill Climb Special," which is what the constellation Sirius would sound like if it could bark.

Magnus Walker shows us how driving in LA is done

Tue, May 12 2015

Southern Calfiornia has some great driving roads if you can get out of the city, from the Angeles Crest Highway to Mulholland Drive. Driving in LA itself, on the other hand, is usually more of an ordeal than a pleasure. But Magnus Walker is here to show us we're wrong. In this latest, artfully produced video for eGarage, everyone's favorite outlaw Zuffenhausen enthusiast takes to the streets of Los Angeles in his highly modified 1971 Porsche 911T street racer, carving his favorite route through the city. The drive takes him through plenty of tunnels (so you'll want to turn up your speakers to hear the exhaust note reverberate), around corners aplenty, past the Petersen and even down some freeways – it is LA, after all. But the key here is that he's driving late at night, when the streets are empty and Magnus can do his best homage to C'etait un rendez-vous. MotorWeek proves '90s were awesome with Supra, Stealth, RX-7, Corvette, 968, 300ZX comparo

Thu, 24 Jul 2014

Oh, the heady days of 1993, back when the Clinton Presidency was just getting underway, and it seemed like every hot new rock band was coming out of Seattle. Sports cars in the US had finally shaken off the shackles that slowed them during the '70s and '80s, and you could buy any number of legitimately quick vehicles again. MotorWeek recently went digging into its archives to find this six-model test from 1993 showing off some of the best semi-affordable performance coupes that money could buy at the time, and it's priceless.
Featuring the 1994 model year Toyota Supra in twin-turbo guise and MY 1993 versions of the Porsche 968, Nissan 300ZX TT, Mazda RX-7, Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo and Chevrolet Corvette LT-1, MotorWeek definitely covered all of the bases. One thing that might surprise younger readers is these cars' performance. The video only provides 0-60 acceleration times, but several of these vehicles would still be considered pretty potent today - over 20 years since going on sale. The Supra is especially impressive, hitting 60 miles per hour in just 5 seconds. Even today, that's nothing to sneeze at.
Given their performance potential and still-attractive looks, it's amazing that some of these coupes are old enough to drink now. The progress of interior design and safety equipment in the intervening years is pretty shocking, though. In most of these models, having two airbags is touted as a big deal. Scroll down to watch a Throwback Thursday blast from the past about some of the '90s best sports cars.
