Offering at NO RESERVE, High Bidder Will Own This 911. Up for auction, 1978 Porsche 911 SC. I bought this car two weeks ago. I am a Porsche enthusiast and I saw this car just sitting in a warehouse. I inquired about the car and ended up buying it on the spot. I bought the car as something to tinker with. As my luck would have it, I also bought a second car too, just last week. I had been following the second car for months and it finally was offered to me, so it bought it. So my delema is what to do with this 1978 911 SC? I can't have two cars in the garage, so I am selling it here, no reserve!  There are 3 previous owners with the car offered here. Little is known about the first owner. The second owner had owned this 911 for more than twenty years. The second owner painted the car approx 15 years ago. This is not a color change, the 911 has always been yellow. I bought the car from the third owner. The third owner purchased the 911 in 2010. The car sat from 2010 until two weeks ago. I purchased the car and drove it home. When I first started the car, it ran a little rough. I drove the car home and the engine began to smooth out. This is typical for a car that has sat for 3 1/2 years. Overall the car is in good condition. The car is very solid and rust free. The undercarriage is clean and and rust free. The paint job on the car is very good and I would consider it an above average paint job. The paint job was done about 15 years ago. The glass and interior must have been removed for the paint job as there are no signs of masking tape lines in the engine compartment, trunk door jambs or anywhere else. The trunk and engine bay were painted too. I looked very deep into the trunk well and found evidence of the original color yellow. The wheels are in good condition and all are similar in condition and appearance. The tires and brakes are in fair condition. The Targa top was refurbished 7 years ago and it is in very good condition. The top has no tears or wear. The glass is in good condition. The side windows are crank type, not power. The windshield has two chips. The interior is in good overall condition, there are no rips or tears in the seats or carpet. The seats have average wear. The carpets could be cleaned. The radio is an aftermarket type. I do not have the original radio.  The rear panel is damaged in the reflector area that says" PORSCHE". The reflector is cracked. The sheet metal behind the reflector is push in. It needs to be repaired. I do have the replacement reflector part for the repair that will be included with the car. Please see the photos of the damaged reflector area. All lights, side marker lights are working. The turn signals work. The wipers, fan blower and radio all work. The horn and drivers power mirror does not work. The knob for the delayed wipers is missing. The speedometer works but while driving the car, I pushed the reset button on the trip odometer in to reset it to zero. The odometer has stopped moving when I pushed this button in. I think I jammed the odometer and it will need to be repaired. The mileage on the car is about 40 miles more than shown in the photo. I will also include a car cover.  The car is located in Surburban Detroit. I would welcome you to come and look at the car or do a  pre- purchase inspection. I will not pay for the inspections and I will not drive the car to the inspector. I will not pay for transporting the car but I will assist on this end with the loading and transport. The car is being offered as is. I will not give refunds or price adjustments after the sale. I have a clear title. There are no maintence documents, paperwork or history. A $500 deposit is due by Paypal within 24 hours after the auction. If I do not get a deposit, I reserve the right to cancel the transaction. The balance of payment is to be made by wire transfer or verfied cashiers check prior to the car being picked up. Feel free to call or write with questions. My number is two four eight five six one five one two one. Bidders with zero or low feedback will be deleted unless you contact me first. GOOD LUCK!

On Oct-11-13 at 16:03:34 PDT, seller added the following information:

A fellow Ebayer from Germany pointed out that the paint code is 443-9-3 which is Copper Brown Metalic. The paint job is a color change. I am sorry for this error. The yellow paint is factory yellow color. The paint job was done very well and the engine bay, trunk and door jambs were painted. The engine number is 6281839.

Mark Webber gets early clearance for Porsche departure

Thu, 28 Nov 2013

If there's no rest for the wicked, there's surely even less rest for the wickedly fast. And make no mistake about it, Mark Webber is wickedly fast. He may not have proven able (or given the opportunity, depending on who you ask) to emerge from Sebastian Vettel's shadow after six seasons partnered with the multiple world champion at Red Bull Racing, but he's still won nine Formula One grands prix, to say nothing of the sports car races he won with Mercedes in the late 90s. But now he's leaving F1 to anchor Porsche's new LMP1 program, and according to the latest reports, he's departing Red Bull for Porsche sooner than expected.
Typically an F1 driver is obliged to stay with his team until the end of the calendar year - not just the end of the racing season - helping out with things like promotional events and fine-tuning next year's car. But news.com.au reports that Red Bull has given him early leave, so once the racing action in Brazil is done on Sunday, he's departing straight for Porsche's racing headquarters in Wiessach, Germany.
It won't be Webber's first visit to the facility, having already swung by to have his new seat fitted. But his early arrival will undoubtedly help him and Porsche get up and running ahead of schedule. The move may have been facilitated by a new sponsorship deal that could see Webber carry Red Bull with him to Le Mans, so don't be too surprised to see the energy drink company's logo on the side of the new Porsche once the new racing season gets under way next year, whether in concert with or instead of the anticipated revival of the Martini Racing livery.

Petrolicious explores long-term living with Porsche's 914/6

Thu, 15 May 2014

After its last video starred none other than the spectacular Ferrari 250 GTO, where was there for the video team at Petrolicious to go? Certainly, in the realm of classics, there are only a few other vehicles that can match the badge and pedigree of the ultra-rare Ferrari. Maybe a Jaguar D-Type or an Aston Martin DBR1? No, this latest video doesn't star either of those British icons. It stars an oft-misunderstood, occasionally derided entry from Germany's most sporting manufacturer - Porsche.
Yes, we've gone from a Ferrari 250 GTO to a Porsche 914/6. As is often the case with Petrolicious, though, the story told about the car by its owner are often more important than the make or model of car being highlighted. That's exactly the case here, as Jack Griffin talks about the 38 years he's spent with this particular Porsche.
Having been born into the Volkswagen fold and introduced to Porsche in the best way possible - behind the wheel of a 356 - Griffin has some interesting stories (including his attempt at running the 12 Hours of Sebring), and he knows a fair bit about some of the 914's attributes.

Porsche again staring down another $1.8B in hedge fund lawsuits

Wed, 15 May 2013

The sequence of events from 2007 that began with Porsche's secret attempt to take over Volkswagen, and instead lead to Porsche being taken over by VW, continues to instigate lawsuits against the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer. A group of hedge funds that suffered over $1 billion in losses sued the car company in New York. Porsche had publicly stated it wasn't trying to buy VW, the hedge funds in question were shorting VW stock, and when Porsche's actual intentions were revealed, the stock shot up and the hedge funds took a beating.
The case was thrown out over the issue of jurisdiction, then appealed, only to see another suit filed on top of that. After that, most of the hedge funds withdrew their claims in New York and Porsche offered a 90-day window to refile in Germany where it is already fighting a number of other suits over the same issue. The hedge funds accepted the offer, refiling in Stuttgart for $1.8 billion in damages. According to Bloomberg, Porsche hasn't commented on the refiling, but as the same plaintiffs are involved, it's safe to assume that the carmaker still feels the case is "unsubstantiated and without merit." It has fared alright so far even in German courts, with two lesser cases against it thrown out last year.
