2001 - Porsche 911 on 2040-cars
Portsmouth, Rhode Island, United States
This 911 in in very good mechanical & cosmetic condition. There is some normal wear and tear, but nothing dramatic. The driver door had a small ding (before pic available) but was repaired and painted. The windshield has a small stone chip that was filled. It was done before I owned the car and has never been an issue of any sort. Small blemishes on leather trim of driver's door. Never been in the snow/salt and has always been garaged. There have been 4 owners. I believe the first was a factory person who put about 2000 miles on, the second a lessee who put on about 4800 miles. The third is a friend of mine (ex professional baseball player) who bought it with about 6950 miles in 01/03. I purchased it from him in 01/04 with about 18,962 miles and have owned it since. The majority of the miles have been from day trips and longer distance trips, very little beating around town. Non smoking car, still a nice leather smell inside. Oil/Filter changed 100 miles ago. New battery installed about three months ago. Tires in great shape. I am also including a molded cloth Car cover, specifically designed for the 911 (about 200 new). Bridgestone S-02A tires in great shape. Factory Hardtop (Black) is also included. It also comes with two keys, original factory black and clear coat touch up paint (in perfect condition, I checked). Runs very strong, tight car, never raced. AC very strong. The All Wheel Drive system matched with the PSM traction control (Porsche Stability Management) makes all the difference in the world for safe handling in less that perfect conditions or at the limit. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Popular Science magazine's Best Of What's New 2012 all ate up with cars
Tue, 20 Nov 2012Popular Science has named the winners in its Best of What's New awards, the victors coming in the categories of aerospace, automotive, engineering, entertainment, gadgets, green, hardware, health, home, recreation, security and software. The automotive category did not go wanting for lauded advancements:
Tesla Model S: the Grand Award winner for being "the standard by which all future electric vehicles will be measured."
BMW 328i: it's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gets called out for being more powerful and frugal than the six-cylinder it replaces.
2014 Porsche Panamera 4S Executive
Fri, 09 Aug 2013If the idea of a Porsche sedan (or, long hatchback) is still off-putting to you, then you might want to look away now. For 2014, the polarizing Panamera has received a midcycle refresh bringing slightly different styling, as well as adding two new models to the lineup, the S E-Hybrid and the stretched-wheelbase Executive. Having focused most of my recent trip to Germany on a First Drive of the intriguing plug-in Panamera, I also got to spend some time with the roomier Executive model.
Offered in both 4S and Turbo guise, the Panamera Executive has been stretched by almost six inches for the sole purpose of improving rear passenger space. Although it's hard to imagine anyone would willingly buy a Porsche and opt to sit in the back seat, I'd have to say that if I'm going to be chauffeured around in a car, why not make it a Porsche? For the most part, though, I'm guessing that many Panamera Executive sedans will be owned by people who want to one-up their buddy driving a stretched BMW 7 Series or Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Driving Notes:
Well hello, Carice, you Porsche-aping EV cutie
Wed, Jul 9 2014Ah, the joy that comes open-air motoring with the in your hair and the roar of the exhaust behind you. Well, maybe not as much anymore. In recent years, vehicles like the Tesla Roadster have made the concept of the electric sports car palatable. Now, Dutch automaker Carice is following suit with a classically inspired EV speedster called the MK1. The MK1 clearly wears its design inspiration on its sleeve. It would be difficult to look at this styling and not immediately see a Porsche 356 Speedster; It has the same upside-down bathtub shape with big round headlights and likely the tiniest taillights on a production car in years. The Carice is also clearly meant for fair weather motoring because there's no top, just a tonneau cover to protect the interior from the rain while it's sitting. One thing that the Dutch company is definitely getting right is the weight. It claims that the MK1 weighs a dainty 772 pounds, including the battery pack. The low weight doesn't mean the MK1 is going to be lighting quick, though. It's being offered with a choice of three electric motors with 5 horsepower (for 16-year-old drivers in the Netherlands), 20 hp or 53 hp, and there are two sizes of battery pack. Buyers can also opt for a range-extending internal combustion engine. The 53-hp motor allows for a top speed of 62 miles per hour and a 124-mile range with the larger battery. Carice says its also willing to fit larger batteries or more power motors, at the buyer's expense, of course. Carice plans to build an initial production run of 10 cars with prices starting at 22,000 euros, before Dutch taxes (about $30,000). The company hasn't released a press release about the MK1, but you can learn more about speedster on its website; it's in Dutch, though.
