Here's a 1999 996 C2 with slightly less than 68,000 miles. The car holds a California salvage title but there is no Carfax history to explain why. I own a body shop and we cannot tell why the car would have been salvaged, the only evidence of any body work is a driver's side quarter panel and rear bumper cover which have been repainted. The paint work does not extend into the door jamb and there is no evidence of tub repairs anywhere, no marks where a puller was used or evidence of any replaced suspension parts. It aligned perfectly and has held that alignment for the last 7000 miles of driving.

The car was purchased at a dealer auction in Texas then brought to California. It was bought by a dealer for his son but the son decided to buy another car. I bought it from the dealer with all the auction paperwork and the Texas salvage title. I have used the car as my daily driver and parts chaser for the last 7000 plus miles and the car runs and drives great, no issues. I have not done anything but change oil and replace the rear tires.

The car is bone stock except for the CCW wheels (I don't want to sell them separately) and a set of H&R Sport springs, which I installed here at my shop. It also has a Kenwood stereo with a CD changer in the trunk. There are a considerable number of small stone chips on the nose and someone closed the hood on something leaving a small pointed dent facing outwards. The struts that hold the hood up need replaced, the console lid is missing and the remote locks are not working. Otherwise the car is quite clean overall, the interior is very nice with no rips or tears in the seats and everything else works. The front tires are 245/40/18 Blacklions with 7000 miles and the rears are 315/30/18 Pirelli P Zeros with 900 miles.

The car has no leaks and I have no evidence to suggest the IMS bearing was done. However, after doing all the research myself I decided it was not worth the time and effort to replace it, especially considering the car is a 1999.

It has been a good car and very reliable, also handles great and the gearing is absolutely perfect. This has been my first Porsche and overall I have been impressed with the car.

On Feb-28-14 at 14:46:33 PST, seller added the following information:

An ebay member Googled the VIN for this vehicle and discovered the following information, some of it conflicting. I am listing everything both he & I found but I cannot vouch for any of it to be true. The only information I know to be true is what I have described above.

1. A 1999 996 Carrera 2 108,xxx miles bearing this vehicle VIN was sold at a wholesale auction in May of 2013.
2. A 1999 996 Carrera 2 with 61,xxx miles bearing this vehicle VIN was sold at a wholesale auction in July of 2013.
3. A 1999 996 Carrera 4 with 108,xxx miles bearing this vehicle VIN was sold at a wholesale auction in May 0f 2013.
4. An AutoCheck report was run on this vehicle and there was very limited information available, however it does show a mileage reading of 61,xxx miles in May of 2013.

Obviously, some of this is true and some is not. I am sharing this information in the interest of being totally transparent.

Remembering Porsche's illustrious Le Mans history

Fri, 13 Jun 2014

Not only does this weekend mark the running of the 82nd 24 Hours of Le Mans, it will also see the return of one of the race's most venerable brands to the top tiers of endurance racing. Porsche will campaign its first top-flight car since the 1998 911 GT1-98, the 919 Hybrid, at this weekend's race, in the hopes of knocking off its corporate rival, the dominant Audi team.
To understand just what a win for the 919 would mean, though, you need to look back on the intrinsic connection between the Circuit de la Sarthe and Porsche. It's a history that spans decades, dating back to the team's first win in 1970.
XCar has a great video on that history. At 25 minutes, it's a bit on the long side. Then again it is the Friday before Le Mans. Take a look below for the video.

Lanzante building 11 Porsche 930 restomods with actual F1-raced engines

Fri, Oct 12 2018

In " Casino Royale," James Bond gets a lesson in tailored clothing when Vesper Lynd gives him a new dinner jacket. Bond tell her he already has a jacket, and Lynd replies, "There are dinner jackets and dinner jackets. This one is the latter." News from Lanzante makes us paraphrase that line in saying, "There are 911 restomods and 911 restomods." Lanzante's is definitely the latter. The English engineering firm is building 11 Eighties-era Porsche 930s with genuine TAG-branded Porsche engines that the McLaren Formula One team used to win 25 races. From 1984 to 1987, Porsche built a 1.5-liter turbocharged V6, branded as the TAG-Porsche TTE P01, for the McLaren MP4/2 and MP4/3; if the naming seems odd to cover four years, it's because McLaren raced the MP4/2B and MP4/2C in 1985 and 1986. The engine produced more than 1,000 horsepower in qualifying trim, and 750 hp in race spec. In its first three years on the grid, the engine powered McLaren to two Constructor's Championships, and three Driver's Championships for Niki Lauda and Alain Prost. During that time, McLaren built a prototype Porsche 930 with that TAG engine, but kept it so far out of sight that people spoke of it as a rumor. The English carmaker finally proved the rumor true a few years ago when it put the prototype on display in the lobby of its Woking headquarters. Enter Lanzante, which has a history with McLaren going back to at least 1995, when it prepped the Veno Clinic McLaren F1 GTR that won Le Mans that year. More recently, it built road-legal P1 GTRs called the P1 GT, and a one-off P1 Longtail. McLaren sold Lanzante the 11 engines for this run of monstrously overpowered Porsche coupes, and Lanzante showed off the first example at the recent Rennsport Reunion at Laguna Seca — news that somehow got lost in the general Porsche overdose and Moby Dick revival. Built just like the original McLaren-Porsche prototype, no one will think anything's astray with the new version's white bodywork and RUF wheels. The camouflage continues inside, where a pair of upholstered racing buckets might offer a small clue. The instrument panel gives things away, containing a tachometer branded "TAG Turbo" with a 9,000-rpm redline, and a water temperature gauge. Cosworth is restoring the engines for the program, and each of the 11 examples gets a plaque in the engine bay listing its engine's race history.
