This car was purchased from the original owner in 1980.  50k mileage is the original low mileage.  Car is strong and drives tight.  6.6 litre (400) and has the TH400 transmission.  It has a slight shift kit that will chirp the tires between gears if you accelerate quickly but under normal driving is not jerky at all.  Posi rear end and geared for low end torque, which makes it fun to drive.  All bushings on front-end were replaced; stabilizer pins, upper and lower control arms, both sides,  all front end parts; tie rods, ball joints, shocks are all new and alignment done.  The rear engine crank seal was replaced this year and is dry to date.  New carb and intake give great performance.  I have originals on a shelf and they come with the car.  I have the bird for the hood although it is not installed.  Tires are almost new.  Wheels were put on by the dealership at time of purchase.  The wheels on the car are the 1979 15 year anniversary wheels that the original owner had installed at time of purchase. Adjustable rear air shocks are only 2 years old. The AC needs charging.  All pollution control has been removed so straight dual exhaust.  It is not a T-top car. The headliner was professionally redone.  This car has a loud clear stereo that I can't even turn up all the way.  There is an amplifier in the trunk and two rear tri-axle speakers that are amazing.  The stereo is older and the CD player uses cartridges that hold the CD.  The receiver is great.    This car starts every time, first time.  It is a great driver.  It stops on a dime, brakes are all new, replaced wheel cylinders in rear two years ago.

The hood paint is like glass.  I had it repainted so if I added the bird to the hood it would look awesome.  This car did not come from factory with a hood bird.  I bought the bird with the decal kit so it matches the lettering and numbers.

It is a fun car to drive and always get looks and great comments.

Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.

'67 Chevy Corvair convertible vs. '86 Pontiac Fiero in cult classic showdown

Fri, 22 Aug 2014

Every few a decades, the folks running General Motors lose their minds briefly try to market a car that public doesn't see coming and often aren't ready for. In the '60s there was the rear-engine, air-cooled Chevrolet Corvair, then the mid-engine Pontiac Fiero in the '80s and the completely bizarre Chevy SSR in the 2000s. What all of these had in common was that they bucked the trend for American models of their era, for better or worse. The latest episode of Generation Gap tasked the hosts with finding two cult classic vehicles to choose between; they came come up with two of these quirky products from The General.
On the classic side, there's a 1967 Chevy Corvair Monza convertible. Being from later in the production run, it wears slightly more aerodynamic styling than the earlier, boxier examples. Hanging out back is an air-cooled, 2.7-liter flat-six pumping out a robust 95 horsepower. In the other corner is the somewhat more modern 1986 Pontiac Fiero SE with a mid-mounted, 2.5-liter "Iron Duke" four-cylinder, an engine nearly ubiquitous in GM cars of the '80s.
Judging by when they were new, the Corvair was far more successful than the Fiero with over 1.8 million sold. Of course, Ralph Nader's book Unsafe at Any Speed kind of poisoned the well, even if the poor safety reputation wasn't entirely deserved. The Fiero on the other hand only lasted for a few model years before shuffling off, but it eventually got its own performance boost with the V6 version and rather attractive GT models. Check them both out in the video and tell us in Comments which you want in your garage.
