1968 Pontiac Firebird Restoration Needs To Be Completed. Arizona Car. Very Solid on 2040-cars
Akron, Ohio, United States
I FOUND THIS 1968 FIREBIRD BURIED IN A GARAGE IN OHIO WHERE IT WAS STORED FOR 20 YEARS. AFTER I BOUGHT IT I COULD HAVE DRIVEN IT HOME BUT IT HAD NO BRAKES. MY PLAN WAS TO RESTORE THIS CAR AT MY BODYSHOP, SO I TOOK IT APART AND STRIPPED IT OF ALL PAINT. I FOUND THAT THIS CAR IS VERY SOLID, JUST A SMALL AMOUNT OF RUST. MY CIRCUMSTANCES HAVE CHANGED AND I JUST DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO WORK ON IT. ORIGINALLY THE CAR CAME FROM ARIZONA. IT WAS ORIGINALLY WHITE FROM THE FACTORY WITH A BLACK VINYL TOP AND BLACK INTERIOR. ACCORDING TO THE TAG, PONTIAC ONLY MADE 10,780 WHITE 1968 FIREBIRD'S ( I DON'T THINK THERE ARE MANY OF THEM LEFT) TO MAKE IT WORTH MORE MONEY, I WOULD RECOMMEND RESTORING THIS CAR BACK TO THE ORGINAL COLOR. I CLEANED THE UNDERCOATING OFF OF THE CAR'S UNDER CARRIAGE AND FOUND THAT IT WAS ALSO VERY SOLID. IN THE PICTURES YOU CAN STILL SEE THE FACTORY WHITE PAINT ON THE UNDER CARRIAGE, BUT THE CAR'S FLOOR PANS WILL NEED REPLACED. THIS IS TYPICAL IN THESE OLD CARS. DOOR AND FENDERS WILL NEED SOME PATCH WORK. THE 350 2-BARREL MOTOR HAS BEEN COMPLETELY REBUILT AND HAS LESS THAN 20 HOURS RUNNING TIME ON IT. ITEMS NOT INCLUDED - THAT THE CAR WILL NEED: LEAF SPRINGS, COIL SPRINGS, WINDSHIELD, BACK SEAT, CARPET, DASHBOARD AND GAS TANK. THIS IS NOT A NUMBERS MATCHING CAR. THE LAST PHOTO YOU SEE IS OF THE CAR WHEN I BOUGHT IT. IT WAS BURGANDY, NOT WHITE. ANY QUESTIONS? CALL JIM AT 330-328-5955 |

Junkyard Gem: 2001 Pontiac Aztek
Tue, Jul 11 2017Ah, the Pontiac Aztek. Everyone laughs at the Aztek ... except, apparently, for Coloradans who like to go camping, bike riding, hiking, and all that outdoorsy stuff that folks do in the Centennial State. You'll see Azteks being driven, unironically and without shame, all over the place in the Denver region, and now plenty of them are showing up in the local wrecking yards. Here's a first-year-of-production example in its final campground. These minivans or crossovers (or however the experts finally decided to categorize them) had built-in air compressors, audio controls in the rear cargo area, and other features meant to enhance tailgating, camping, and other activities deemed central to Generation X's allegedly active lifestyle. You could even get an optional camping kit with a tent that attached to the rear of the Aztek. So, it was a General Motors minivan-like vehicle, cousin of the weird-looking Dustbusters of the 1990s, with lots of useful features for those who did more than just commute to work and drop off kids at school. Unfortunately for GM, the Aztek was staggeringly ugly, and Generation Xers were too damned broke to buy new cars in 2001, anyway. I see plenty of them in Denver-area wrecking yards now, along with their slightly-less-offensive-looking Buick Rendezvous siblings, and so I decided to document one before they're all gone. Rumormill: DeLorean Motor Company considering rescuing Pontiac Solstice?
Wed, 07 Oct 2009 DeLorean Motor Company Pontiac Solstice renderings - Click above for high-res image gallery
General Motors has made a science out of sharing platforms. So when the company's Kappa platform was introduced for a new rear-drive roadster to be distributed across three different motor divisions, you'd have figured the program was pretty safe, right? Unfortunately for the workers at the Wilmington Assembly Plant which manufactured the Kappa roadsters, those three divisions were Pontiac, Saturn and Opel - three units which the General has either sold or shut down. Which is a shame, because a perfectly good rear-drive roadster platform is a heck of a thing to waste.
In one of the strangest rumors we've heard recently, however, our compatriots over at Jalopnik report that the DeLorean Motor Company (yes, that DeLorean Motor Company) is considering buying the plant and the platform from GM and putting it back into production as a new DMC.
NHTSA could add 1M cars to GM recall
Wed, 13 Mar 2013
The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may expand a recall campaign for faulty brake lamps. The agency is currently looking into complaints that certain 2004-2011 Chevrolet Malibu models as well as some 2007-2009 Saturn Aura sedans may have brake lights that do not illuminate when the driver presses the pedal. Alternatively, the lamps may also illuminate without input from the driver. General Motors recalled 8,000 Pontiac G6 models from the 2005 model year for the same problem, and NHTSA is currently investigating whether to add 550,000 more G6 models built between 2005 and 2009 to the list for the same issue.
In addition, investigators are currently examining 97 complaints from Malibu and Aura owners with the same trouble. If NHTSA adds those models to the recall campaign, more than one million units could be covered. GM, meanwhile, says there have been no accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.
