For sale is my 2005 Crimson Red Bonneville GXP. This is a truly beautiful and timeless sports sedan, the flagship of the Pontiac line and the last model year of their production. Whether you are a Pontiac enthusiast or just someone looking for a reasonably priced sport sedan with kick-you-in-the-ass power, this car will suit you. It is still in great condition as you can see in the pictures.

It runs great. I have added about another thousand miles since I took the picture of the odometer, but did not change the pic cuz it looked cool. :) Current mileage is a little over 102k. The Head Up Display is awesome; you'll never want to be without it.

In the last couple of years I have replaced all of the brake pads and rotors (ceramics in front). I replaced the stock Goodyear RS-A junk rubber with Conti ExtremeContact DWS a couple years ago. I have really liked these tires. I have put about 29k miles on them and the D W S is still showing as you will see in the pics. These tires have a 50k mile warranty. Most recently, I had the 100k mile service performed, and replaced the A/C compressor, as well as the accumulator/dryer, pressure sensor and one of the hoses. I have kept up on regular scheduled services while I have had it (since 2010) and all work has been done at a local GM [former Pontiac] dealership, which unfortunately does not report to CarFax but if it did you would see it has never had any accidents and the title is clear. It has been garaged the whole time I have owned it as well.

This Bonneville GXP has every available option, some you would never expect, except the engine block heater which I doubt is in too many Bonnies unless they were ordered in Anchorage.

Check out a complete listing of optional equipment here: 2005 Pontiac Bonneville GXP

It comes with two keyfob remotes numbered 1 and 2 for two separate drivers. The onboard personalization computer remembers dozens of preset settings for seat adjustments, radio stations, air conditioning and many other settings unique to each keyfob and driver and recalls them at the push of the remote keyless entry button on the respective remote. The car is equipped with GM's famous 4.6L Northstar V8 engine producing 275 HP and 300 ft-lbs of torque and is amazingly quick for its size.

It did not have the factory 12-disk trunk mounted CD changer but I put it in up to GM spec. An aftermarket bonus is that it is equipped with a remote starter!

The car has the complete trunk accessory kit but needs a new hose for the trunk-mounted air compressor. I was going to buy one prior to sale but I decided not to put any more money into it. You can probably get one (or the whole kit) online or from any GM dealer.

$500 non-refundable deposit required within 48 hours after the end of the auction. Come and get it or have it shipped. I will work with any serious buyer to arrange shipping. I have had cars shipped several times and it is easy, economical and practical when compared to the price of flights, gas and excess mileage to drive it home from central Maine which is where the car is located.

Gobbledy-gook: Car is being sold as is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Buyer must have any financing secured and balance paid within 7 days of close of auction. I will not finance or take trades, etc. I reserve the right to end the auction early if I get a buyer through other channels.

Questions welcomed.

Happy bidding!

CNN chronicles young girl building Pontiac Fiero

Fri, 26 Oct 2012

At fourteen years of age, Kathryn DiMaria has already done what many self-proclaimed gearheads won't even attempt in their lifetimes. The Dearborn, Michigan teen is rebuilding a car from the ground up.
The intrepid youngster asked her parents when she was just twelve to start a Pontiac Fiero project, even offering to pony up all the funds herself. Father, Jerry DiMaria only expected the project to last a few months, but two years later, Kathryn is still at it. In this CNN video, the two are at Maker Faire (a DIY festival) rebuilding a 3.4-liter V6 engine out of a Chevrolet Camaro to replace the 2.8-liter mill found in the Fiero.
The whole family hast pitched in, with Kathryn's mother teaching her how to sew in order to complete the interior, father Jerry providing much of the technical know-how, and even her sister is chronicling Kathryn's progress through photos. Jerry even started a thread in a Fiero forum which has been live for two years and is now 22 pages long. Of the project, one forum member wrote, "welcome to the madness."

2008-2009 Pontiac G8 recalled over airbag concern

Mon, 07 Nov 2011

General Motors is recalling around 38,000 Pontiac G8 sedans from its 2008 and 2009 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the cars may have a passenger-side airbag flaw that might prevent proper deployment in certain scenarios.
According to NHTSA, the airbag might not adequately protect a fifth percentile woman - that is, a woman around four-foot, 11-inches weighing 108 pounds. The New York Times indicates that the anomaly was found during a crash test conducted by GM's Australian branch, Holden, which was testing the G8's twin (read: Commodore) for head injuries. According to that report, the test in question is specifically tailored to simulate injuries to females, so the results do not apply to men or children.
The issue has been blamed on a seat position sensor that governs airbag deployment rates. NHTSA indicates that when the front passenger seat is moved all the way forward, the faulty sensor may inappropriately trigger a 30-millisecond delay between airbag stages, potentially leading to greater injuries.

Watch this garbage truck consume a Pontiac Grand Am

Wed, 15 May 2013

When an old car or truck offers its dying breath in your driveway and you just don't have the financial or mechanical wherewithal to resuscitate it yet again, you traditionally have to go to the trouble of calling a flatbed or a tow truck to come haul it away. That usually helps to put a few bucks in your wallet and helps recycle some of the vehicle's parts, but the transaction doesn't seem as final or perversely satisfying as the dispatch service that this New Way Cobra Magnum garbage truck offers.
Okay, okay, so this refuse hauler isn't actually designed for this sort of thing, but it's oddly comforting to know that a sanitation truck can compact a hapless Pontiac Grand Am into oblivion. Next time, we won't feel so guilty about slipping that rusty charcoal grille onto the curb next to the cans on garbage day. Watch the carnage by scrolling below.
