I am forced to sell my 2001 E320 4Matic Mercedes due to an addition in the family.  Goodbye Mercedes, hello minivan...  hah!  This car was maintained to a high level because I had no intention of selling it. It was always garaged. The list of things that have been done to this car is below. I have easily put several thousand dollars into the car to keep it running like new. You might be tempted to buy a car with less miles, but all the things I have already done will end up happening to you later.  This car is mechanically sound, cosmetically great and loved. It starts up immediately and should not give you any problems for a long time. This will be the second car I have sold through ebay and I have also sold a motorcycle here.  Note my 100% feedback rating.

This is a 4matic, all-wheel-drive car.  It feels like it drives on rails when the road is dry, wet and even in the snow.  I confidently drove this car in the snow and we live in the Pocono Mountains with unforgiving roads.

The car is equipped with the Bose sound system.  Rain sensor windshield wipers. Full size spare tire. To see all options please look at the photo of the window sticker purchase.

Wheels: 17" OZ wheels with brand new Dunlop tires.

The heater core has been replaced.
The evaporator for the air conditioner has been replaced.
Air conditioner recharged.
Front constant velocity boots replaced.
Front tie rods and steering knuckles replaced.
Front brake pads and rotors replaced.
Front differential seals replaced. Fluid replaced.
Mercedes installed camber plates and bolts for fully adjustable front suspension.
Transmission filter replaced and fluid replaced.
Transfer case fluid replaced.
Rear differential fluid replaced.
Front passenger SRS seat sensor replaced.
Interior air filters replaced.

This car had its oil and filter replaced every 5,000 miles with synthetic only.
Seats constantly treated with leather conditioner.

There are maybe 2-3 small dings, but if you look at the photos you would be hard pressed to see them.  They are small.  The interior has signs of wear, but considering the number of miles it is good. It is a very clean, non-smoking car. Two buttons on the steering wheel could probably use replacing, but they work perfectly fine.  There is nothing wrong with the car.  There are no squeaks, grumbles, rattles, shimmies, etc.  There are probably a few more things I have replaced that I cannot think of off hand.  If I remember or find receipts I will add more to the description.

If you live nearby and want to see the car in person that can be arranged.  I will not end the auction early for any reason so please do not ask.

You will notice I have the sticker when the car was bought new. If you want a loaded, $54,000 car for a fraction of the price, this is for you.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class spied once again

Fri, 08 Feb 2013

As evidenced by how little camouflage the next-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been caught wearing lately, it can't be too much longer until the car will get its official debut. In our newest shots of the yacht-sized luxo sedan, the cladding still covers up the headlights, front fascia and most of the rear end, but we finally have an almost undisguised look at the rest of the car's lines.
Considering previous spy shots had more camo that better (or fully) concealed the S-Class' body, some of the more obvious things we see in these images include the prominent grille, the CLS-Class-inspired bodyside creases, the pointed trunk opening and, most interestingly, a lack of fancy exhaust outlets. Unlike other S-Class prototypes we've seen, this car does not have integrated outlets, but it does have two pipes on the left side of the car. All current S-Class models in the US and Europe feature a dual exhaust layout on each side of the car, so while some of our questions about the car get answered, it would appear that more are just arising.

Daimler employees can set email to auto-delete during vacation

Mon, 18 Aug 2014

The Internet has shrunk the world in terms of the way people communicate by making it possible to send an email from Oslo and have it show up in Cleveland almost immediately. But that instant contact has wrecked the work/life balance for many. They get home from a long day at the office, yet they can never fully put their feet up and relax because another hour or more of checking and replying to emails awaits. However, German automotive giant Daimler is putting an end to that churn, at least while its employees are on vacation.
About 100,000 Daimler employees in Germany are eligible to opt-in to a new program called Mail on Holiday, according to The Atlantic. When the workers go on vacation, they can switch it on, and the service auto-deletes all of their incoming email. "Our employees should relax on holiday and not read work-related emails," said Wilfried Porth, board member for human resources, to The Financial Times as cited by The Atlantic.
Mail on Holiday puts a thumb on the scale of work/life balance in favor of a little more free time. The system means that Daimler employees shouldn't even be tempted to check their email on vacation because there's nothing there - and it also avoids them coming back from a relaxing holiday only to find a mailbox packed full of hundreds of unread messages. These days, people are absolutely obsessed with their work, often to the detriment of their health, not to mention spending time with their families and friends. On one hand, Mail on Holiday sounds like the sort of vacation breakthrough we'd need to truly unplug and unwind, but on the other hand, it makes our skin crawl just thinking about the lack of communication. Popular Science magazine's Best Of What's New 2012 all ate up with cars

Tue, 20 Nov 2012

Popular Science has named the winners in its Best of What's New awards, the victors coming in the categories of aerospace, automotive, engineering, entertainment, gadgets, green, hardware, health, home, recreation, security and software. The automotive category did not go wanting for lauded advancements:
Tesla Model S: the Grand Award winner for being "the standard by which all future electric vehicles will be measured."
BMW 328i: it's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gets called out for being more powerful and frugal than the six-cylinder it replaces.
