Maintenance Status:  (not a full list, but just what I can find with my limited car expertise)
All engine oil changes performed using the vehicle FSS display or at least each 12 months using recommended synthetic oils. Last one performed on May 2013. FSS reset.
Average of about each 6,000 miles intervals. Only Mobil 1 (european) or Amsoil oils that comply with MB standards were used. Lab oil analysis shows engine in excellent shape.
Brake oil replaced on April 2013.
engine air filter and cabin air filters replaced on April 2013
Front and back Brake Pads and disks replaced about 2 year ago. They were within normal tolerances the last time they were checked this year.
Radiator water may be due for replacement in the next 2 years.

All fluids are at their nominal levels. There has not been the need to refill any of the fluids in the last 12 months (other than for flushing and replacement). This may be an indication that no leaks are present.

All new 4 tires purchased and installed on April 2013. BF Goodrich Touring (rated for 60,000 miles).  Great road handling and low road sound level.

Clear coat Paint over the front fenders and a few other areas needs to be redone as paint is a little faded as shown on the photos.
Small dents on rear right fender cover shown on photos
Paint may need touch up at some spots on the driver door and other parts

Possible repair works to be done: (Please read the Warrant terms disclosure below)
During the last front end alignment done in May 2013, mechanic recommended the following:
One of the 2 front calipers may need to be cleaned or replaced. (Disk wearing more on one side than the other. Calipers go for $200ea plus installation. Disk may need to be resurfaced to match widths)
One of the 2 front control arms may need replacement to allow for a better cast alignment (control arms can be purchased for about $200ea plus installation cost)

Warranty

This vehicle is being sold as is, where is with no warranty, expressed written or implied. The seller shall not be responsible for the correct description, authenticity, genuineness, or defects herein, and makes no warranty in connection therewith. No allowance or set aside will be made on account of any incorrectness, imperfection, defect or damage. Any descriptions or representations are for identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a warranty of any type. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have thoroughly inspected the vehicle, and to have satisfied himself or herself as to the condition and value and to bid based upon that judgement solely. The seller shall and will make every reasonable effort to disclose any known defects associated with this vehicle at the buyer's request prior to the close of sale. Seller assumes no responsibility for any repairs regardless of any oral statements about the vehicle.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Many states such as MD require that the car go through an inspection before they are re-titled in the name of the new owner.
Car is sold as is.  Any and all expenses incurred to bring the car to pass any failed or recommended maintenance to pass inspection will be at the new purchaser sole responsibility and cost, as customary on ebay used car sales from person to person.
Car history shows a "Salvage" title for the period when it was owned by the previous owner.  Car was fully repaired and in good working conditions when it was purchased it in 2004 from a dealer when it had about 50,000 miles. It passed the MD inspections then and has been titled in MD since then. It seems that the front hood was replaced and repainted for the repairs performed in connection with the "salvage" title shown on the previous owner title issued in NY, apparently from a front end collision accident.  Car has been driven by my 2 kids when at college and served them well for many years on the 60,000 additional miles that were put on the car. Title type is clear since the registration in MD.  Ttitle in hand and ready for transfer with no liens, etc
New purchaser will need to obtain insurance and a temporary tag to be able to drive the car away after cash or approved cashier check payment. I will accept full paypal payment, if desired.
If residing in the MD/DC Metro area I can drive the car to your home/mechanic(for their follow on inspection after cleared payment has been received) and then remove the old tags for return to the MVA on the same day.

Buyer is responsible for transportation costs if vehicle will be shipped and assumes all responsibilities/risks.

Absolutely NO shipping to overseas, especially to shade bidders from countries famous for princes and dictators who stashed their riches in a bank who want to share it with the world.  Save your time and mine.

Zetsche's CEO tenure extended through 2016 at Daimler

Sun, 24 Feb 2013

There appear to be two takes on Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche having his contract extended for three more years, to 2016. A report in The Detroit News quotes the chairman of Daimler's supervisory board, Manfred Bischoff, talking up the stability at the top, "With today's extensions of the contracts of Dieter Zetsche and Thomas Weber, we are maintaining the important continuity at the top executive level." Bischoff also stated that that Zetsche has a plan to "further enhance Daimler's overall performance."
Over at Reuters, though, the three-year extension was seen as a lack of complete confidence in Zetsche's plans, since his contract was supposedly meant to be extended by five years. A spokesman said the board decided to extend executive contracts by only three years if the person was 60 or would turn 60 during the contract, but that was news to observers. Zetsche wants to make Mercedes-Benz the top selling luxury manufacturer globally by 2020, but has fallen to third place behind Audi and BMW. It hasn't held the top spot 2005, and investors judged it valued at half that of BMW at the end of 2012 once Daimler's truck business was subtracted.
Analysts cites the fact that Daimler stock hasn't bested its rivals but twice in twelve years, and that the company revised its profit target downward last year by nearly one billion euros, warning of stagnant earnings this year and will miss its original margin target for 2013.

Ecclestone wonders if F1's upcoming turbo V6s should get augmented sound [w/videos]

Mon, 08 Apr 2013

While every team on the Formula One grid is worried about making a good showing in this year's championship at the same time as they develop a brand-new car for next year's championship, Bernie Ecclestone and F1 circuit promoters have a different concern: how next year's cars will sound. The current cars use 2.4-liter, naturally-aspirated V8s that can reach 18,000 revolutions per minute and employ dual exhaust, next year's engine formula calls for 1.4-liter turbocharged V6s that are capped at 15,000 rpm and are constrained to a single exhaust outlet. Ecclestone and promoters like Ron Walker believe the new engines sound like lawnmowers and that the less thrilling audio will keep people from coming to races. If Walker's Australian Grand Prix really is shelling out almost $57 million to hold the race, every ticket counts. As a fix, according to a report in Autoweek, Ecclestone "suggests that the only way to guarantee [a good sound] may be to artificially adjust the tone of the V6s."
However, neither the manufacturers nor the governing body of F1, the FIA, think there will be a problem. Ecclestone fears that if the manufacturers "don't get it right" they'll simply leave the sport, but the only three carmakers and engine builders left next year, Renault (its 2014 "power unit" is pictured), Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari are so embedded that it would stretch belief to think they'd leave the table over an audio hiccup - if said hiccup even occurs. And frankly, these issues always precede changes to engine formulas, as they did when the formula switched from V10 to V8; fans, though, are probably less focused on the engines and more on the mandated standardization of the sport and the spec-series overtones that have come with it.
No one knows yet what next year's engines will sound like, but we've assembled a few videos below to help us all start guessing. The first is an engine check on an Eighties-era John Player Special Renault with a 1.5-liter V6 turbo, after that is Ayrton Senna qualifying in 1986 in the Lotus 98T that also had a 1.5-liter V6 turbo, then you'll find a short with a manufactured range of potential V6 engine notes, and then the sound of turbocharged V6 Indycars testing last year at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Any, or none of them, could be Formula One's future.

Daimler employees can set email to auto-delete during vacation

Mon, 18 Aug 2014

The Internet has shrunk the world in terms of the way people communicate by making it possible to send an email from Oslo and have it show up in Cleveland almost immediately. But that instant contact has wrecked the work/life balance for many. They get home from a long day at the office, yet they can never fully put their feet up and relax because another hour or more of checking and replying to emails awaits. However, German automotive giant Daimler is putting an end to that churn, at least while its employees are on vacation.
About 100,000 Daimler employees in Germany are eligible to opt-in to a new program called Mail on Holiday, according to The Atlantic. When the workers go on vacation, they can switch it on, and the service auto-deletes all of their incoming email. "Our employees should relax on holiday and not read work-related emails," said Wilfried Porth, board member for human resources, to The Financial Times as cited by The Atlantic.
Mail on Holiday puts a thumb on the scale of work/life balance in favor of a little more free time. The system means that Daimler employees shouldn't even be tempted to check their email on vacation because there's nothing there - and it also avoids them coming back from a relaxing holiday only to find a mailbox packed full of hundreds of unread messages. These days, people are absolutely obsessed with their work, often to the detriment of their health, not to mention spending time with their families and friends. On one hand, Mail on Holiday sounds like the sort of vacation breakthrough we'd need to truly unplug and unwind, but on the other hand, it makes our skin crawl just thinking about the lack of communication. What's your perspective? Have your say in Comments.
