Selling my 1970 Mercedes 250C Pillierless Coupe.  I bought it for the wife three years ago, but she wants a convertible.  After buying the car, I spent another $5500 getting this 43 year old car mechanically more than ready for the road.  I replaced or repaired almost everything on the car.  Where to start?  Well, the tires where new when I bought it, and they have all the thread on them given we have not driven the car very much.  I replaced the brakes, (calipers and rotors) all the hoses, belts, full tune-up, stocks, major and minor suspension parts, (see photos)  one complete axel, fuel pump, water pump, altinator, battery, all new filters including transmission service, sent the entire gauge cluster to Calf for an over-haul, (even the clock works now...$500 later)  fan clutch, heating fan, drive shaft yoke, motor mounts, transmission mount, cooling sender unit, interior parts, trunk seal, new trunk liner, wiper motor/ blades and much more.  The only thing that doesn't work is the original Becker radio.  I forgot to have him look at that, as I don't listen to the radio.  It could just be a fuse.  I am expecting new plush Loyd custom floor mates this week. (photos don't show them yet)

Does everything work?   Yes, only the radio does not work.  Does the car need anything to be 100%?  Yes.  There are a few spots of rust to fix, nothing dramatic.  The fact is:  the paint, chrome, rubber trim, moldings and over-all straightness of this car is stiller!  The interior wood and upholstery is first rate.  There is not a cut nor sign of wear on this black upholstery.  The headliner looks excellent as well.  (see photos)  The car could use a OEM carpet set.  ($459)  The carpet is dry rot.  The car starts and drives like new. The A/C blows ice cold.  These two and three years are the best models of the 70's coupe, not the rubber bumper mid-70's that were nothing but problems.  We are complimented when ever we take it out.   I have more photos upon request.  Happy bidding, I have a reasonable reserve...

Any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.  Dan (cell) 203-912-1213

PS  I can arrange to have the car in Greenwich CT for pick up only, if that will make it easier to get from my home in Vermont.  BTW, I was told the car came from Arizona when I bought it.

2017 Aston Marin Lagonda could live on Mercedes M-Class platform

Tue, 29 Oct 2013

A few weeks ago, we brought you news from the launch of the Aston Martin Vanquish Volante that the British brand, which is formally known as Aston Martin Lagonda, was still planning on going ahead with a Lagonda-badged crossover. Now comes word that that vehicle could very well be based on a Mercedes-Benz M-Class.
When the first Lagonda Concept debuted at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, it sat on a Mercedes-Benz GL-Class platform, some four years before Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG deal was inked. And with that partnership, which will see Aston Martin gain access to AMG electrics and "bespoke, V8 powertrains," the opportunities for platform sharing are many.
Dr. Ulrich Bez, the boss of Aston Martin, told the UK's AutoCar, "I look at what Porsche is doing with the 911 as its core business and then it is able to do models like the Cayenne based on the Volkswagen Touareg. It is good business." We've said many times that we'll tolerate exotic CUVs and SUVs if it means keeping the beloved core models alive, which has been the case with Porsche. We see no reason Aston Martin wouldn't be able to do the same.

Mercedes mulling Renault-based entry-level X-Class?

Sun, 17 Mar 2013

Somewhere in between the Smart brand and the all-new A-Class (pictured above), Daimler is said to be readying a smaller entry-level product for the Mercedes-Benz brand to compete with models like the Audi A1. According to AutoBild, Mercedes-Benz will get a new hatchback based on a platform from its recent partnership with Renault-Nissan, and it could be called the X-Class.
Expected to debut by 2018, the Mercedes-Benz X-Class could be offered in sedan, hatchback and crossover variants, and it would likely have a starting price below the $20,000-euro mark. Power would come from either a 1.0-liter inline three-cylinder engine or a 1.5-liter inline-four, and the car would likely be built in a low-cost nation in order to make the financials work. Wearing the Mercedes-Benz name, the X-Class would have to exhibit more distinguishable luxury and styling to set itself apart from the models that helped provide its underpinnings.

Frankfurt Motor Show Notes: Why Jaguar decided to build an SUV

Wed, Sep 16 2015

It was inevitable. Jaguar had to make an SUV, and that notion became reality this week with the debut of the F-Pace, an all-wheel-drive five-seater that will launch in the United States next spring. Some purists may cringe. But in an era when Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, and other traditional luxury brands are all building or (planning to build) SUVs, Jaguar had to evolve. While it seems like a leap for Jaguar to make an SUV, longtime design director Ian Callum said it's been in the works for years. "The first time I was asked the question was when I arrived 16 years ago," he said. So in 1999 (and probably well before that), Jaguar was already thinking SUV. What took so long? "It wasn't a priority," Callum said. Jaguar was concentrating on fixing its existing lineup, which was pockmarked with holes and poorly selling products, like the X-Type. Along the way, Jaguar and sister brand Land Rover were sold by Ford to Indian conglomerate Tata Motors. Flash forward several years, and Jaguar and Land Rover are both experiencing a resurgence in the United States and around the world. Jaguar's lineup is flush with the E-Type's modern successor, the F-Type, plus a new version of the XF. The XJ received a 2016 freshening, and the smaller XE sedan is on the way. Jaguar put its house in order as other factors conspired to make a crossover timely. Fuel prices stayed relatively low, and consumers in the US and China remained steadfast in their love for utility vehicles of all stripes. Making a Jaguar SUV became a priority. "The world was telling us in no uncertain terms this is what they wanted," Callum said. "Not to be in the sector would be a little naive for the sake of purity." Jaguar proved its intent two years ago when it revealed the C-X17 crossover concept at Frankfurt, and the final production model is close to the prototype's striking looks. "I thought we managed to maintain that spirit," Callum said. It's a true Jaguar, with cues from the F-Type, 1968 XJ, and other famous models. Who would have thought Jaguar would make an SUV? "I certainly didn't," Callum admitted. But the F-Pace is here. If Callum is okay with it, purists can be, too. Quick Hits Opel retrenches for 2016 and beyond Opel used the Frankfurt show to display its new generation of the Astra, a critical vehicle line for the German division of General Motors.
