I am selling a meticulously maintained classic 1991 Signal Red on Palomino (Tan) interior Mercedes 500SL (SL500/r129) with 133,xxx miles. These are very highly desired cars and this is a very rare color. This car has been maintained throughout its entire life. I have a book full of records that totals over $13,000+ in receipts from the last couple years alone. It just had brand new spark plugs put in during the last 100 miles. All service is up to date on this car.

This car is fast, equipped with a 300+ HP 5.0 liter V8 engine. The engine is in amazing shape and has been fully maintained. There are no oil leaks, ticks or broken gaskets. The carfax does show a that the owner backed into something in a parking lot. It left a scrape on the rear drivers side bumper that affected the paint only. This was touched up, I have it pictured, but it is hard to see in the picture. It was very minor damage. It also has a couple small cracks on the lower front bumper valence from curbs stops in parking lots. This is the only thing that I can think of that is wrong with the exterior.

The car has been garaged its entire life and you can tell from the paint. It is a two owner car. The hood and entire car does not have a single ding/dent on it. This is one that you have to see in person. The paint looks like it was delivered from the showroom. It does have a small crack on the wood grain between the AC controls and the Head Unit (Can’t see it in the picture). It has a CD Changer in the trunk.

The car comes with all of the original equipment including the original owners manuals, full tool kit, medical kit, 2 original keys, the color matched red hardtop (which comes with the original dolly and cover all oh which is in excellent condition). The cylinders for the convertible top are leaking, so I put the top down manually. This takes under 1 minute to do. You can order the cylinder repair kit online for $14 if you want to have these fixed. The cloth top is in amazing condition due to the fact that is was garaged. It has no leaks tears or wear.

The rims are in great shape and the tires have about 80% of the tread left on them. Other than the convertible top being manual, everything works on this car as it should and drives like it was purchased last week. If you are looking for a well maintained 500SL in excellent condition, this is the car for you.

Chris Harris and David Coulthard wring out a Mercedes Fintail at the N"urburgring

Thu, 17 Oct 2013

If there's one thing we've learned from the latest video from Drive, it's that the combination of Chris Harris and David Coulthard will produce some very quotable moments. Take this exchange, for example.
DC: "We are by some way the slowest."
CH: "But we're in a class of three cars, apparently."

Why all of this year's F1 noses are so ugly [w/video]

Fri, 31 Jan 2014

If you're a serious fan of Formula One, you already know all about The Great Nosecone Conundrum of 2014. Those given to parsing each year's F1 regulations predicted the strong possibility of the so-called "anteater" noses as far back as early December 2013. Highly suggestive visual evidence first came after Caterham's crash test in early January, with further proof coming as soon as Williams showed a rendering of the FW36 challenger for this year's championship. That car earned a name that wasn't nearly so kind as "anteater."
Casual followers of the sport - or anyone who gets the feed from this site - probably don't know what's happening, except to wonder why the current year's F1 cars are led by appendages that would make Cyrano de Bergerac feel a whole lot better about himself.
The short answer to the question of ugsome F1 noses is "FIA regulations and safety." The reason there are various kinds of ugsome noses is simpler: engineers. The same boffins who have given us advances including carbon fiber monocoques, six-wheeled cars, double diffusers and Drag Reduction Systems are bred to do everything in their power to exploit every possible freedom in the regulations to make the cars they're building go faster - the caveat being that those advances have to work within the overall philosophy of the whole car.

Rare Isdera Imperator 108i flexes its considerable muscles

Mon, 05 Aug 2013

The Isdera Imperator 108i is a remarkably rare supercar from the late 80s and early 90s. Born of a Mercedes-Benz concept car, it's powered by a range of AMG-developed V8s, with five to six liters of displacement, depending on the engine. The example shown here, lapping the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit, features the most potent 6.0-liter V8 available. And rather than just being driven about on a perfectly clean racing line, it's freaking power sliding!
Yes, there's something eternally childlike about a wedge-shaped supercar from our formative years being flung about a Belgian racetrack. Adding to the appeal is the Imperator's stumpy, periscopic rear mirror, sticking out of the roof. Even after being out of production for 20 years, this is still a wild, wild car and we'd happily snap up the opportunity pilot one of the 36 Isderas that were built. Take a look below for the full video from Spa.
