1988 Mercedes Benz 420sel - Clean, Classic Boulevard Cruiser Ready For The Road! on 2040-cars
Auburn, Washington, United States
1988 Mercedes Benz VIN: WDBCA35D4JA399061
If you’ve followed my Ebay vehicle auctions the past seven or eight years you’ve noticed we get a fair number of great vintage Benz sedans on a regular basis. A local, long-term owner contacted me wanting to liquidate this classic boulevard cruiser and after spending a few minutes behind the wheel I was sold on it! They’re perfect for road trips and great as a daily “get-around” vehicle as well. The longer wheelbase of this SEL version gives greater access to the rear seat, too. From the moment I laid eyes on this clean car, it was obvious that it’s received respect and care over the years. Please feel free to email or contact me with any questions. My direct phone number is 206/914-1173 and my name is Mark Thompson. You’re welcome and encouraged to stop by my Auburn, WA warehouse to inspect the car and take it out on the road.
In total, this is a
clean, well-cared-for, smoke-free Mercedes. I take great pride in the
vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about the car as
possible. Accordingly here is a list of the good and also things needing
attention: I feel the car idles, runs
and drives as it should – immediate strong oil pressure,
good battery and charging system, no overheating, no brake pull or alignment
issues! I’ve driven it over the past week and freeway cruised
at 70 MPH. The factory black paint is in very good overall
condition and still holds quite a shine. I find NO fading clearcoat or
rust spots, only a few nicks, chips and expected small dings as pictured.
Decent chrome and exterior trim all around, too! The front fenders,
doors, rear quarters and floor pans appear all solid. The factory wheels are straight and true. They’re
wrapped with almost new 205/65R15BF Federal Touring Radials appearing to have
at least 90% tread wear remaining. Take another good look at the interior
photos. The upholstery is all-original with the pictures giving an accurate
view of its condition. Hop in and feel
comfortable sitting on these firm seats for hours. The heater and cooling
system work but have an intermittent fan and could use a refrigerant recharge.
The dash gauges and exterior lights are bright and true. The tachometer, clock, speedometer and odometer all function as they should. We have no idea if the miles shown are accurate, as the car came to us exempt because of age. I think the
former owner was wise in changing out the original factory AM-FM Becker stereo
for the Sony CD model presently in place (don’t know why, but it seems Daimler
can’t ever install a decent radio from the factory in any of their cars and the
first thing I usually do on these vintage models is upgrade them). The
original factory owners manual will arrive in the glove compartment and the jack & spare are in the trunk. About the
only negatives I can think to point out are: The driver’s power window has
difficulty being raised without a little manual help, though it does lower just
fine. The driver’s seat doesn’t move;
most likely caused by a fault in the switch (the passenger seat works fine). I pulled up the sheepskin covers to verify
the leather condition on both. They’re
better than expected, but each have several cracks on the outer base panels and
some wear on the driver’s left bolster. A Few Additional Terms and Conditions: A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s end. I can accept PAYPAL, but only for the deposit amount because of the high fees they charge. The balance is due by cash (in person), wire transfer or other certified funds within seven days unless prior arrangements have been made with me. Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later -- You’re more than welcome and encouraged to do this before the auction ends. The car can be stored at my location for up to two weeks after the auction ends (assuming full payment has been received). After this period storage will be $20 per day. |

2021 BMW M3 and M4 vs all the high-powered sport sedans and coupes
Wed, Sep 23 2020Should you have a found a way to get past that schnoz, you've probably digested some of the basic specs for the all-new 2021 BMW M3 sedan and M4 coupe specs. They're plenty impressive. There's also, basically, two sets of them thanks to the regular and Competition versions that differ in engine output and transmission type. But how do they compare to other ultra sport sedans and coupes? Well, we were wondering that too, so we fired up the Autoblog Comparison Spreadsheet Generator 5000 (aka me chained to my computer in a dark basement). Sadly, there are surprisingly few competitors for the 2021 BMW M3. Rival sedans include the Mercedes-AMG C 63 and the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, along with the Audi RS 5 Sportback sedan/coupe/hatchback thing. There's no more Lexus IS F, the Cadillac CT4 Blackwing has yet to arrive and Jaguar doesn't offer a spicy XE R. Happily, there are more coupe rivals for the 2021 BMW M4, including the two-door versions of the AMG and Audi as well as the Lexus RC F. I also included the Ford Shelby GT350 and Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE. On paper, they align incredibly well. On the street and on a track, I can personally attest that these Americans are fully capable of keeping up and/or bettering the fancy-pants luxury brands (and let's not forget there are even more powerful, hardcore versions available). If they don't align in terms of price or prestige, whatever. OK, let's get to the spreadsheet. Let's start with the coupes and note that I didn't bother listing the dimensions for the M4 Competition and C 63 S as they are identical to their "lesser" siblings. I won't bother burning words explaining what you can see on the chart. Instead, I'll point out a few things that stood out to me. First, BMW M comes awfully close to matching the output of AMG's twin-turbo V8 despite having two fewer cylinders. Similarly, Audi manages to better the 0-60 time of the M4 Competition and tie the C 63 S despite being WAY down on power. It's not like it weighs less. Magic? Second, and speaking of 0-60 times, remember the importance that transmission and drivetrain make with them. It's not just horsepower and torque. An automatic will be quicker and easier to launch than a manual, while all-wheel drive provides more instantaneous and beneficial grip.
Dartz promises own 6x6 G-Class with golden shishas and a dining room
Mon, 25 Mar 2013So you didn't really think Dartz Motorz was going to let the limited-production, 544-horsepower Mercedes 6x6 G63 AMG go without a challenge, did you? Picking up the gauntlet as only Dartz can, the Russian dream-makers have come up with the Sahara G-eopard, supposedly a special request from a buyer to make one of the 'standard' six-wheelers "more opulent and insane."
That means the vehicle from the factory gets extended by about a foot (30 centimeters), coach doors in the rear, a "yacht floor" and air conditioning that runs on its own power source, Asanti 24-inch Gold Bullion wheels and a water dispenser with Russian diamonds, which the owner will need to fill the golden shishas (hookahs) in the portable smoking room. That's right, you heard the man: a portable smoking room. Where the occupants will retire when they're finished in the portable dining room. Of course.
Yes, it will even have leopard spotting painted onto its nano-coating, and so much more. You can check out the press release below from the source. Try not to be jealous.
Race Recap: 2015 Canadian F1 Grand Prix is better behind the front
Mon, Jun 8 2015As of Saturday afternoon in Montreal, Canada, it was all about the number four. Lewis Hamilton put his Mercedes-AMG Petronas on pole position for the fourth time at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, and now his tally of pole positions matches his race number: 44. Nico Rosberg lines up beside him, which is the fourth time that particular one-two combo has occurred this season. Ferrari spent three engine development tokens to try and close the gap to Mercedes, Kimi Raikkonen making the most of it with third position on the gird. His teammate Sebastian Vettel got the worst of it, however, when the MGU-K unit failed during Q1, leaving him 160 horsepower down and out at the first hurdle. Valtteri Bottas put a revitalized Williams on the grid at fourth, ahead of a Lotus lockout of the third row with Romain Grosjean leading the way in fifth, Pastor Maldonado just beside. Nico Hulkenberg got the first Sahara Force India into seventh – the team is still waiting on the upgraded B car that should be available for Austria – ahead of Daniil Kvyat in the first Infiniti Red Bull Racing and a "pissed off" Daniel Ricciardo in the second Red Bull. Sergio Perez made it two Force Indias in the top ten, a welcome result from a team performing below expectations of late. When the lights went out, at the very front it was much ado about not that much at all. Hamilton got away clean and stabbed across the track to close the door for Rosberg, giving Raikkonen a chance to take the inside line into Turn 1 in an attempt to clear Rosberg for second place. That didn't happen, leaving the two Mercedes' to run in grid position for the entire race. It wasn't boring – Rosberg stayed close, rubber-banding the time gap to the leader from a little more than one second to just under four seconds, and Montreal is famous for race-rearranging safety cars and on-track incidents. But none of those occurred, so Hamilton crossed the line 2.285 seconds ahead of Rosberg after 70 laps to earn his fourth victory in Canada and the first-ever victory for the Brackley, UK-based Mercedes team. Valtteri Bottas drove his Williams to third position, the first podium place for the team this year and a welcome salve to heal the team's wounds from a poor showing in Monaco. That placing came courtesy of being in the right place at the right time, which was not far behind Raikkonen when the Ferrari driver spun at the hairpin on Lap 28 after his first pit stop.
