1979 Mercedes Benz 450slc Restored Luxury Coupe - Great Looking Car on 2040-cars

Fall Creek, Wisconsin, United States

1979 Mercedes 450SLC Sports Coupe.

This is a very cool looking car. It has 88,000 miles and has had a recent paint job. The front seats and the rear back seat has new leather. Carpets are all good. Wheels are like brand new and tires are basically brand new (2,000 miles). There was some body work done before the paint job. Some metal was cut out and replaced if the rust was starting to go through and some fiberglass was added in a few spots where rust started but hadn't gone through. The lower fender skirts were added on each side to cover up the original dented and rusted rockers. You would never know they were from a SL model - they look great. The paint would have been great if they had wet sanded it but they didn't. It looks great from 5 feet but if you are up close and look there is some dust marks etc in the paint. I am not a paint person so I don't know if you could still wet sand to bring out the perfect paint or not. Chrome is all real good.

The interior as stated before looks great. There are a couple of issues. the original radio is included (not installed) but I have no idea if it works. I know the antenna would need to be replaced, but as far the rest - I do not know. The heater / AC controls are all there but one side of the mounting bracket is broke. It is attached so you would never know but trying to disclose everything. The cruise control doesn't work and the A/C doesn't work. All components for A/C are there but just doesn't work. Should need it for cruising on a nice summer day. All other components seem to wok fine.

The car is a little cold blooded in very cold weather. In the summer or in warm storage it fires right up. It runs out great and seems to need nothing mechanically. There is a small leak in the auxillary water pump. It will leak a little coolant. It is a $90 part from EcklersMBZparts.

This is a great car that you can jump in and drive or bring to the local shows (almost guaranteed only one there). It will never be a show car unless you can correct the paint and do a frame off restoration. But it is certainly a great 7 out of 10 car.

NADA Values
Original MSRP                       Low Retail                              Average Retail                                      High Retail
$37,542                                     $9,750                                        $14,750                                                $21,400

This car would probably be priced around low to average retail by most collector car dealers. I want to make this car go away as I lost my storage space for my toys. My reserve is thousands below low retail!

$500 deposit through PayPal within 24 hours and balance within 7 days.

If you need shipment buyer will make all arrangements.

I would believe you could fly in and drive this car home anywhere, but it is a 35 year old car so I can't make any guarantees.

Highlights from the Goodwood Festival of Speed, including the McLaren P1 and a Ford Transit running the hill

Mon, 15 Jul 2013

The sole purpose of this post is as a time-waster, and since you shouldn't have to work to waste time, we've done it for you. In the numerous videos below you'll find cars that have lately been in the news tramping all over the grounds of Lord March's estate in Goodwood, England.
There's the McLaren P1 heading up the hill, the Jaguar Project 7, then a casually-driven Porsche 917 followed by an even-more-casually-driven Porsche 956, topped off by a Porsche 936 that is anything but casually driven. The next round is the flame-spitting Peugeot 405 T16 Pikes Peak from Climb Dance, a camera mounted on the Peugeot RCZ R after it showing you what the whole, uninterrupted run up the hill looks like. For a real head-turner, we couldn't embed it but there's Andy Reid blasting up the hill in a Ford Transit Supervan with a Cosworth 3000 V6 engine.
The modern racing contingent has Allan McNish doing the hill in the Audi R18 e-tron quattro he used to win Le Mans and Lewis Hamilton making lots of tire smoke in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas MGP-W02. For comparison, that's followed by Nick Heidfeld's record-setting run up the hill in 1999 in the McLaren MP4/14 . The classic racing contingent is headlined by 71-year-old Giacomo Agostini on an MV Agusta.

Mercedes calls CLA 'best launch in 20 years' as it warns dealers of tight supplies

Fri, 13 Dec 2013

It's still in the early going, but it's looking more and more like the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA is a verifiable home run for the German brand. According to a new report from Bloomberg, the new small car isn't just widening the sales gap between Mercedes and BMW, it's attracting a new, younger breed of customers into the brand's showrooms. But that early success is straining supplies of the turbocharged four-door.
Dealers have been warned that the first half of 2014 will see limited supplies for CLA, with a letter to dealers indicating that "tight inventories and low days supply" will exist from February through June, despite the car's Kecskemét, Hungary plant running at full tilt.
"This is our best launch in 20 years," said Steve Cannon, the US boss for Mercedes. "The CLA has been a phenomenal success right out of the gate." The numbers certainly support that. We reported in early October that Mercedes moved 2,300 CLAs in its first week on sale, and now Bloomberg is saying CLA sales were almost singlehandedly responsible for Benz's November sales gains. Mercedes' annual sales are up 14 percent through the November, and it's enjoying a healthy 7,600-car lead over BMW.

Mercedes has already booked 30k orders for new S-Class

Mon, 21 Oct 2013

When Toyota snags 30,000 Corolla orders over a three-month span, it's entirely possible we're in the midst of a global economic collapse and that the end is nigh. That's because the scale for Toyota is so very large. Mercedes-Benz, on the other hand, operates on a much smaller scale, particularly when we talk about its higher-end models, like the S-Class.
In 2012, Mercedes sold 65,000 of its flagship sedans in Germany and the EU. That's 178 units per day, for 365 days. Based on that, you can imagine the excitement at Stuttgart when it accepted 30,000 orders for the new S-Class in just three months. That's an average of 333 per day on a continent with a notoriously shaky economy. Now, admittedly, this enthusiasm could wane as the refitted S-Class becomes more common and Mercedes achieves market saturation in Europe's many chauffeur and livery services, but Mercedes isn't choosing to look at it that way.
"The new S-Class has already jumped back into the lead in terms of new vehicle registrations in Germany and its neighboring European countries," Mercedes-Benz head of sales and marketing, Ola Kaellenius, said in a statement last week.
