1978 Mercedes-benz 450sel 6.9 Sedan 4-door 6.9l on 2040-cars
Scottsdale, Arizona, United States
|
The Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 was produced between 1975 and 1981 in extremely limited numbers. Between those years only 1816 where imported to the US. Only 437 in 1978. I am listing this 6.9 for a friend of the family. Her husband was the second owner of this car and had it for many years. The husband has passed so I don't have much information on the cars history. I have done some research and I do know that the car is somewhat rare. There is another 6.9 listed on eBay right now that is absolutely gorgeous and in a different category altogether then the one I am listing here. That being said, this car is a pretty good example. Everything on the car is fully operational and it is in great mechanical condition. The car has been well maintained and needs nothing in regards to the mechanics and operation. However, the car is not without some cosmetic issues that I will attempt to describe to the best of my abilities.
The interior is in outstanding condition with little or no noticeable wear. However the steering wheel is not original and neither is the radio. The leather seats are perfect. There are no rips or stains anywhere. There are two locations where the chrome trim on two of the door panels is coming off (Images 22 & 23)
As far as the exterior, there are a few issues. I have taken pictures of all the imperfections I could find and I will describe them one by one.
There is blistering in the paint on the hood/window cowl at each lower corner of the windshield (Images 19 & 20)
There is blistering in the paint on the right rear fender next to the bumper wrap around and the rubber on the wrap around is loose (Image 16)
There are a few chips on the door edges in a couple of places (Images 17 & 18)
There are a few chips 3-4 here and there that I took pictures of but didn't list as to not use up my allotted images. Overall the paint is in pretty good condition and you would have to look close to see the defects. That being said, I do believe the car has had a repaint sometime in the distant past. I would like to add that the wheels are in perfect condition. No curb rash, rust or imperfections of any kind. Please feel free to ask any questions. Thank you for looking.

Consumer Reports selling its road-tested roadsters [w/video]
Thu, 31 Jan 2013Here's a chance to acquire a celebrity-owned vehicles, and this time at a discount instead of a premium. So the celebrity in this case is Consumer Reports, that magazine that could be equally adored and abhored by car enthusiasts. CR buys all of its test vehicles and usually finds willing second owners within its own ranks, but its opening its small used-car lot to the public. On the forecourt are four roadsters: an automatic 2012 Audi TT 2.0 TFSI Quattro S-Tronic with 6,600 miles for $36,500, a manual 2012 BMW Z4 sDrive28i with 8,400 miles for $45,000, a manual 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK250 for $39,500 and a manual 2013 Porsche Boxster with 7,000 miles for $48,000.
Those numbers mean a savings of $9,000 to $10,000 before haggling - each car is listed with an "Asking price" so there could be some wiggle room if you show up with pockets full of dough and eyes full of serious intent. Since the money CR earns from the sales go back into the magazine's budget to buy more test cars, however, it probably won't take any oddball trades, so you can forget about getting any purchasing help from that track-day AMC Javelin project on blocks in the back yard.
The vehicles have been taken care of and spiffed up for sale; buyers will take delivery at the CR test track in East Haddam, Connecticut and get a tour of the facilities. While you're there they'll even take you on a lap around the track so you can feel how your car handles when driven by one of its testers. They will probably not help you with advice on which toaster and dehumidifier to buy - you'll still need to get a subscription for that. Have a look at the video below to see a day in the life of a CR test car.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class leads this month's list of discounts
Mon, Jul 19 2021Like last month, the biggest discounts car buyers will find on new vehicles are all applied to expensive luxury sedans. Unlike last month when there were two, there isn't a single Rolls-Royce to be found anywhere in the top five. Sorry, one-percenters. But just because the pinnacle of European luxury isn't represented doesn't mean there aren't big discounts to be found on lovely luxury sedans. In fact, this month's list is led by the 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, a technological wonder that coddles its driver and passengers with all the bells and whistles the German brand has to offer. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is offered in many shapes and sizes with several powertrain options. That means there will be a huge variance in prices across the model range, but on average, 2020 S-Class buyers are seeing $11,803 lopped off the car's $109,447 sticker price, leaving an average transaction price of $97,644. That's a savings of nearly 11%. It's worth noting that there's a new S-Class for 2021, but the 2020 edition is still a lovely machine. Up next is the Porsche Taycan, sitting in second place just like it did last month. Buyers are seeing average sticker prices of $125,736 but are paying $113,938. That's a savings of $11,798 — or about 9.4% — off the price on the window sticker. As was the case last month, we're not sure how many of the Taycan's buyers will be able to claim tax rebates due to the Taycan's status as an electric vehicle, but that could potentially represent a further cut off the car's sticker. Rounding out the top three for the month of July is the Maserati Ghibli. With an average discount of $10,161 that represents a whopping 14.3% of the car's sticker price, this Italian luxury sedan actually leads the list of vehicle discounts when ranked by percentage. And if you're a Maserati fan but the Ghibli isn't your cup of espresso, the Levante crossover and larger Quattroporte sedan are also seeing very large discounts. Detroit Auto Show prankster 'damages' hundreds of thousands of dollars of cars
Thu, Jan 29 2015Obtaining credentials for an auto show is generally a pretty selective process, especially at one of the world's premier shows, like Geneva, Los Angeles or Detroit. That didn't stop online prankster Dennis Roady from getting credentialed for the 2015 North American International Auto Show on behalf of a Russian YouTube channel to cover the show. While he wasn't brought on strictly to cause mischief, Roady couldn't help but have some fun at the expense of the product specialists during the serious business of covering the show. He took to an app called "Dude, Your Car," which allows Apple iPhone users to take snaps of vehicles and then edit them to add some serious, but fake, dents and scratches. Naturally, the pranking session was caught on video, where you can enjoy the sight of poor product specialists freaking out over damage to vehicles ranging from the Mercedes-Maybach S600 to the Audi R8 and a lovely Dodge Challenger. Take a look.
