Hello, Up for sale is a nice condition 1989 300se.
I am selling this car for an old friend of mine, almost family, who is the original owner of the car. I have a clean title in hand. The information below is a mix of what I've been told, and my assessment of the car upon driving it.

General Summary:
The car is mechanically sound.
Exterior shows scratches and dings, but no major damage.
Dashboard has no cracks.
Headliner is in perfect shape.
Interior is dirty/marked from years of use, but that would come out with a good cleaning.
Driver's seat has very small cracks forming in the leather. Otherwise, the leather is in extremely good shape.

Imagine, the driver was an older woman who never bought another car until now. She never needed to do more than regular maintenance. She took care of it, but not meticulously. She just used it... For 25 years - kids, grandkids, shopping, etc.

Problems:
Power Door Lock vacuum is dead. Locks can be manually depressed, but will not stay.
Electric power seats do not work. Second-hand information is that it has to do with the switches, and I was given replacement switches, but no work was done.
The battery dies if car is not driven for 3-4 days.
Roof has some droplets where it looks like sap or chemicals were left, and the clear coat is eaten through.
Also there are areas of light oxidation or clear coat wearing off on the roof.
The car seems down on power or sluggish, and smells strongly of burning fuel. I suspect it needs a good tune-up and timing adjusted.
(There is no hesitation, hiccuping, or otherwise weird stuff when accelerating though. Just seems like it should have more power than just average)
Passenger sun-visor clip is broken, shown in the picture.
Center console is cracked and loose.
Seatbelt mount could have the leather fixed - shown in photos. It's not torn, just loose.

Other stuff:
Shifts are smooth and all gears work.
Sunroof works in all positions without strange noises, no grinding, and does not leak
Serpentine belt was done in the last few hundred miles.
Spare tire and jack have never been used.
Turns and rolls nicely.
Turning the wheel all the way either direction does not produce any unusual sound from the steering, nor grinding or anything.
Brakes work well no squeaking and no pulling, surprisingly.
Tires are old, but have about 50% tread life, or more.

I can provide video of the car running if you want. Test drives are welcome.
Car is sold without warranty of course.

Mercedes FWD platform to last until 2018, convertible and two-seater future uncertain

Mon, 22 Jul 2013

Mercedes-Benz seems to be expecting a lot of success from its front-wheel-drive CLA-Class. Automotive News is reporting that the sub-C-Class sedan could grow when its second generation arrives in 2018.
The current FWD platform for MB underpins the CLA, the B-Class, the GLA-Class, and the A-Class. The B-Class will arrive in North America as an EV for spring of 2014, while the production GLA crossover will arrive three to four months after that. The five-door A-Class won't be crossing The Pond. Sad faces all around.
According to AN, another model will be based on the front-drive architecture, but it won't be coming to the US market. Set to arrive next year, rumors are that it'll be a wagon version of the CLA, sort of like the ill-named five-door CLS Shooting Brake that is also a Europe-only item.

Mercedes-Benz CLA stars in sweeping short with supermodel Karlie Kloss

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

The Mercedes-Benz CLA earned itself a spot on our list of the top five unveils of the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, and for good reason. The German luxury compact is the first small car from the Silver Arrow that looks suitably premium inside and out. Nowness.com has turned out a new video of the CLA featuring super model Karlie Koss in the lead role. We aren't entirely sure what the premise is, but from what we can tell, it looks as if the CLA comes to life and proceeds to be a giant jerk.
After Koss stops to take a closer look at a white horse, the CLA gives the supermodel the old stop-and-go treatment before leaving her on the side of the road. Eventually, the sedan makes nice, but Koss has to ride shotgun instead of taking the controls herself. You can check out the video below to see for yourself.

Mercedes rules out hybrid supercar, promises SLS successor

Sat, 16 Mar 2013

The recent Geneva Motor Show was a festival of hypercars, with the presence of not one, but three over-the-top debuts: the Lamborghini Veneno, McLaren P1 and Ferrari LeFerrari. The latter two have hitched their carbon fiber bumpers to the electrification bandwagon by using hybrid-electric powertrains not entirely unlike the propulsion systems we've come to know in cars like the Toyota Prius and Chevrolet Volt. Does that mean the flow of electrons up the four-wheeled food chain will eventually consume our hallowed supercars? Not if AMG has anything to say about it.
AMG Director of Vehicle Development Tobias Moers recently confirmed that not only will there be a successor to the Mercedes-Benz performance division's SLS AMG, he notes that its internal combustion engine will most definitely not be sharing living quarters with an electric drivetrain. Instead, AMG plans to focus on further pushing the power and efficiency envelope of the internal combustion engine and advancing the use of lightweight materials to achieve their goals. The first example of this effort can be seen in the new SLS AMG Black Series that incorporates many weight-saving techniques to shed some 154 pounds from the SLS AMG GT (above), which itself is lighter than the standard SLS AMG.
Furthermore, Moers remarks that his company is happy to leave the hypercar segment to companies like Ferrari and McLaren. He admits that, "Ferrari in the hyper-car segment is still a different brand than AMG. We have to be honest..." So rather than taking the SLS further upmarket to do battle with bulls and stallions, Moers hinted that the next-generation SLS may be joined by another performance model that fits neatly between itself and the C63 AMG.
